  • How to Talk to Your Kids About Money

Most parents want to talk to their kids about money, but don't know where to start. In this episode, host Julia Myers sits down with her 12-year-old son Mason to show what that conversation can look like.

Mason shares what "generational wisdom" means to him, why kids need to understand money before they inherit it, and how he thinks about deals. Then Julia gives him a virtual $50 and asks: What would he do with it, and why? His answer (invest some, give some away, spend some on Legos he won't get bored of) opens up a conversation about compounding, generosity, and making decisions on purpose.

The big idea is that it isn't about how a kid spends the money. It's about how they decide. Julia and Mason also talk about needs vs. wants, why price isn't the same as value, and how their family uses a Family Constitution to turn values into goals, including their biggest Operation Christmas Child donation yet.

If you're a parent wondering how to start, or a kid stuck in the back seat of the carpool line, this episode gives you the questions to start tonight.

    KEY INSIGHTS

✔️ Money is a tool, not a measure of what matters. Teach kids that money shouldn't matter more than time and relationships.

✔️ Think before you act, and think before you spend. Slowing down before a purchase is a financial literacy skill kids can build early.

✔️ Price isn't value. A good deal depends on what you want, what it costs, and how long you'll use it.

✔️ The $50 question shows how your child thinks. Saving, giving, and spending reveal their values and decision-making, so there are no wrong answers.

  • Teaching Kids About Money: You Can't Buy Everything

Teaching kids about money doesn't have to be complicated. In this Generational Wisdom Kids Version episode, host Dr. Julia Myers sits down with her 10-year-old daughter, Lena, for an unscripted conversation about saving, spending, giving, and what money can't buy.

Lena explains her three accounts (spending, savings, and giving), how she'd give away $1,000, and how she'd split money between spending, saving, and giving. She also tackles debt and where money comes from. The episode closes with a true story from a Boston airport. Julia and Lena are stuck on a standby list, trying to get home early, and no amount of money can buy them a seat. The lesson: money isn't the end goal, and some of life's best things can't be purchased.

This episode is for parents who want to start money conversations with elementary and tween kids, and for kids who want to hear another kid explain it.

    KEY INSIGHTS

✔️ You can buy anything, but you can't buy everything. Lena's tongue twister is a simple way to teach limits and the difference between a want and a wish.

✔️ Save, spend, give. Lena works out a 70% spend, 20% save, 10% give split out loud. Julia notes the numbers shift as kids grow and their needs change.

✔️ Kids can explain debt in their own words. Asking your child to define money terms shows what they actually understand, and where the gaps are.

✔️ Money can't buy everything. Julia's story shows that patience and trust matter when a seat, a result, or an opportunity isn't for sale.

✔️ Not knowing is okay. When Lena couldn't answer where money comes from, Julia modeled curiosity over perfection.

  • What is Generational Wisdom?

What's wrong with wanting to build generational wealth?

In Episode 2 of Generational Wisdom, Dr. Julia Myers tackles the question she hears most. She explains why money lands badly in unprepared hands, from lottery winners to student athletes with NIL deals, and why wisdom is the missing piece. She shares the six-part Generational Wisdom Playbook from her FinCon talk: influences, skills, values, privilege, discernment, and legacy. Then her kids Lena (10) and Mason (12) share, unscripted, why money is a tool and why they think every family should talk about it.

If you want your kids to inherit your wisdom, not just your wealth, start here. Your one step this week: pick a pillar and ask your kids one question about it.

    KEY TAKEAWAYS

✔️ It isn't money that's the problem; it's the love of money.

✔️ Wealth that lands in unprepared hands rarely lasts.

✔️ The Generational Wisdom Playbook has six parts: influences, skills, values, privilege, discernment, and legacy.

✔️ Kids already know money is a tool, not something to value over time and relationships.

✔️ You can buy anything, but you can't buy everything.

  • Why I Almost Never Launched This Parenting Podcast

Is procrastination really just perfectionism in disguise?

In this first episode of Generational Wisdom, Dr. Julia Myers tells the story of the show she almost didn't make. She plays her first, imperfect podcast recording from 2025 next to the one-take version she recorded a year later at FinCon 2026, and shares what a year of bloopers, retakes, and more than 25 guest interviews taught her about perfectionism and procrastination.

Along the way, she goes back to applying to pharmacy school before she felt ready, and to being accepted to speak at TEDx Lakeshore Drive. Both taught her the same thing: you don't get clarity and then take action. The action hands you the clarity.

Then she introduces her framework for rewriting the money story your family inherited: the three no's- no skills, no ownership, and no expectations. And she leaves you with the question at the center of the show: is everything you've built a blessing or a burden?

    In this episode:

    - Why procrastination often hides inside perfectionism

    - Why action creates clarity, not the other way around

    - The three no's and how to pick one to work on this week
