Give and receive information about somebody & plural: nouns that get an -en/-n ending.
Fritz sends Paul some information: Anna has a criminal record for theft. Paul also knows she likes to read. Now he suspects her even more but he doesn’t want to risk asking her directly if she is the one who stole his book. So he decides to book a trip to Berlin for Fritz, Anna and himself. He needs a vacation anyway and he could collect more information about her during the trip. But right now she's still angry and probably wouldn’t come along ... How can Paul get Anna to come along for the trip?

Learning German with training wheels
The characters in our story DON'T speak at a regular speed, just like native speakers among themselves. Why?
They speak natural German. But we put in countless hours of work to direct every voice actor so that he or she speaks a bit slower and more clearly, adapted to the language level. You can always speed up the audio in the app. We believe this is the better way. Just as we believe that at the beginning, training wheels teach a child to ride a bike better than bruises from falls do. If you want know why we spent over 1 1/2 years of work before we even published our first lesson, go to german-stories.com/the-best-way-to-learn-german

Talk about law and permissions, describe people’s actions & noun-noun composites: Wohnungseingang / Hausflur / Hausmeister.
Paul watches the surveillance video in the caretaker’s office. After the party, Meili and Tim didn't visibly carry his book when leaving his apartment. Neither did Anna and Fritz, but they each had a bag. Paul seems to think his book was in one of the bags. Fritz is a police officer. So the suspicion is narrowed down on Anna ... The book is gone, Tim and Meili didn't do it. Was it Anna?

The best way to learn German: Don't beat yourself up with too many new words
When writing a learning story it's easy to get carried away by an idea for a dialog. But that can result in an episode having way too many new words. That would be demotivating for you, the learner.
Therefore we counted every word and went through endless writing and re-writing sessions for every episode to make sure that didn't happen to our story. If you want know why we spent over 1 1/2 years of work before we even published our first lesson, got to german-stories.com/the-best-way-to-learn-german

Talk about hobbies, make small talk, four seasons & possessive pronouns: unser(e), euer/eure.
Paul meets Meili "by chance" near the university. He is more clever now: They make small talk about hobbies. He casually asks about Meili's job and apologizes for what he wrote earlier. It turns out that her message was just a misunderstanding: Meili doesn't have to work. Her parents pay everything for her. Then she remembers having seen a security camera in the hallway of Paul's apartment building! Will Paul be able to see who stole the book on the video from the security camera?

Justify actions, reflect on a situation, read the 24-hour clock & possessive pronouns: dein(e), sein(e), ihr(e).
Paul tries to find Laura on Facebook. But it’s not easy, and he gives up. Also because this is making him feel like a stalker. Tim calls: He was on vacation. His mobile phone was switched off. Getting accused by Paul makes him angry. He can't have stolen the book because after the party he didn't even have a free hand to carry it. Paul regrets that he is so forgetful and not a good detective. Then he remembers Meili's answer from earlier in the group chat. She said she has a job, but Paul realizes that's not true: She’s only studies. The book is gone, and Tim didn't do it. Was it Meili?

Make appointments, read the traditional analog clock (tell the time) & possessive pronouns: mein(e), Ihr(e).
Paul had to get out of the apartment to clear his head. He’s walking to Tim's bike repair shop because he wants to ask him about the book. He also needs his bicycle fixed. But he forgot about Fritz who arrives at Pauls apartment to help him. He now stands in front of closed doors, and tells Paul in a slightly angry phone call that he doesn’t want to help anymore. Paul finds out that Tim is not at work. He is on vacation and will be back tomorrow. He drops off his bike and walks home in the rain. He thinks he might find Laura on Facebook. How did Fritz want to help? Will he be promoted? Why didn't Laura show up at Paul’s party, and why did she delete her profile? Can Paul find her online?

Why we made German Stories
We felt that the best way to learn German is NOT using the old style teaching material with chapters full of tiny texts and unrelated stories. Our idea was to spoon-feed you German in very small bits. And to tell you parts of one big story at the same time. An awesome, full-blown story with different storylines that continues throughout all lessons. We wanted to keep you motivated and say "I can't wait to find out what happens next episode!" Order somebody to do something, express disappointment & determine the gender of nouns by their meanings: car and motorbike brands, gender summary.
It's not Fritz who is at the door. Unexpectedly, Paul's parents are standing in front of him. They bring food so that he doesn't stay so skinny. Paul's mother teases his father for boasting about the two girlfriends he had in younger years. That's when he remembers that he gave Paul the book last time to distract from the topic. Paul must admit it’s gone. They are very angry and disappointed. The book is antique and worth a couple of thousand euros. Paul has to get it back! The search for the book gets serious. Tim did not respond in the group chat. Suspicious! Does he have the book?

Describe a problem, express compassion & determine the gender of nouns by their meanings: weather words.
Fritz says he'll be right there to help. Paul wants to ask in the group chat who took the book, but he ends up outright accusing everybody. His friends are outraged, but still somewhat understanding. Nobody admits they took the book, though - so it was theft, not a mistake. But Paul thinks looking for the book is too difficult and wants to give up. He's not a detective after all. And his parents? He wants to tell them. He's interrupted in his thoughts as Fritz rings the doorbell. The book was stolen, but who has it? How will his parents react if he tells them? How does Fritz want to help?

Give advice, discuss weekend plans, ask for help, & determine the gender of nouns by their meanings: alcoholic drinks and colors.
Paul has no doubt anymore that the book is gone. He thinks it was stolen. He wants to find it and calls Fritz, who knew nothing about its value. He offers to help and says maybe someone just borrowed it. He suggests a party because that would be a good opportunity for Paul to ask around. But Paul has no nerve for a party and prefers to ask everybody in the group chat. Fritz learns that Laura's profile has been deleted and Paul learns that Fritz has no idea whether he will be promoted or not. Was the book taken by mistake? Why didn't Laura come, and why did she delete her profile? Will Fritz be promoted?
