Formada en la Universidad de Chile con Magíster en Interpretación Musical con mención en Dirección Orquestal de la Facultad de Artes. Actualmente es Directora Titular de la Orquesta Filarmónica de Coquimbo y la Orquesta Sinfónica Infantil Metropolitana FOJI. Desde el 2019 forma parte del directorio de la Fundación Orquestas de Mujeres de Chile, organización sin fines de lucro que trabaja con mujeres intérpretes, compositoras, directoras, sonidistas y realizadoras audiovisuales en el área de la música docta. We speak with Ninoska Medel, Chilean, orchestra conductor, and founder of the Women's Orchestras Foundation of Chile. She is the Music Director of the Philharmonic Orchestra of Coquimbo and the Metropolitan Children's Symphony Orchestra (FOJI). She graduated from the University of Chile with a Master's degree in Musical Interpretation with a specialization in Orchestral Conducting from the Faculty of Arts. Currently, she serves as the Principal Conductor of the Philharmonic Orchestra of Coquimbo and the Metropolitan Children's Symphony Orchestra FOJI. Since 2019, she has been part of the board of the Women's Orchestras Foundation of Chile, a non-profit organization that works with female performers, composers, conductors, sound engineers, and audiovisual creators in the field of classical music.

This week we speak with Stephanie Ybarra, a program officer in the Arts and Culture program of the Mellon Foundation. Previously, she served as artistic director of Baltimore Center Stage, where she was the country’s first Latina artistic director in the League of Resident Theaters. During her tenure, she was instrumental in leveraging powerful artistic works as a catalyst for conversation, reflection, and action. A multi-award winning champion of diversity and inclusion, she serves as a faculty member at The Juilliard School and New York University.

Fue asistente de dirección en la obra “El Amo Harold” de Athol Fugard, en el teatro La Plaza. Es gestora y directora del Encuentro Internacional de Mujeres Afro en escena. Alicia busca generar espacios de creación cultural que empoderen la participación cultural de la mujer afrodescendiente.

Our guest is Alicia Olivares Robles, an Afro-Peruvian actor, director, and founder of Mujeres Afro en Escena and Ébano Teatro. She is a professional actor who graduated from the National Superior School of Dramatic Art of Peru, general producer of the play "Al Otro Lado de la Cerca" by August Wilson, actor in and executive producer of the play "Ropa Íntima" by Lynn Nottage. She has also worked as an assistant director in the play "El Amo Harold" by Athol Fugard at La Plaza Theater. Alicia is the organizer and director of the International Convening of Afro Women on Stage.Alicia aims to create cultural spaces that empower the cultural participation of Afro-descendant women.

Our guest this week is Karla Estela Rivera, Executive Director of the Arts Administrators of Color Network. She is a writer, performer, activist, and arts advocate fighting to uplift and create opportunities for, with, and in divested communities. Karla made national history as the co-chair of the Illinois Fine Arts Indicator work group, which developed the nation’s first K-12 indicator in the arts and is the author/narrator of the first-ever commissioned young audiences piece for the Joffrey Ballet. She is a co-host of the Creative Generation’s Why Change? podcast.

Mercedes Caxaj is the Artistic Co-Director for the Sunfest-London Committee for Cross Cultural Arts, which presents innovative global arts programming in London, Ontario. She has served as Head of Programs for Small World Music, and produced the Global Toronto music conference, as well as the Emergence Music Incubator. She works in collaboration with the International Indigenous Music Summit and has been recognized widely for her contributions to the music scene.
