Good book

Good book but the stories can be too similar, I was hoping for some variety with a wide gamut of stories with unique and variations of situations.

Another Great Collection of Bigfoot Encounters From the Master

This is another wonderful collection of Bigfoot tales. They will thrill you, chill you and either make you want to see one or run for cover! If you are new to Rusty's books, these are not "I saw one cross the road" type of stories. These are actual encounters for better or worse that have often changed people's lives. As always, they are expertly told by Rusty with perfect narration by the wonderful Richard Henzel. He really brings the stories to life. Be warned that Rusty's Bigfoot stories are highly addicting, you will want more! They hold up under repeat listening too. If you do enjoy them, and I hope you do, look for more great Bigfoot Campfire books from Rusty. My personal favorite is the "Ten Intense Bigfoot Campfire Stories." Top-notch reading of a fairly good book

The book itself is a fast-moving, engrossing horror novel with engaging characters, compelling motivations, an interesting premise, and a well-planned and executed plot. It succeeds in being truly scary in many places and is fairly creepy throughout. Enough emotional connection is established among the characters to make their fates important.

If there is a weakness in the book, it is the language. Though generally effective, many of the metaphors and dialogue elements tend towards cliché, and word choices and phrase structures are rarely original. This does not interfere directly with enjoyment of the story, but it does keep it from rising to the top tier of horror literature.

The narration of the audiobook, however, is truly brilliant, and ultimately what got me into the book in the first place and kept me engaged throughout. Folly Blaine's calm, collected voice is appropriately chilling when applied to the books gruesome content, and her use of varied inflections and intonations imbues the characters with richer identities than offered by the raw source material. She has an ideal register for narration and I look forward to listening to other books read by her in the future.

Overall, I recommend this audiobook highly to anyone looking for a creepy small-town mystery wrapped in the trappings of a grisly horror tale.

A fantastic listen!

What made the experience of listening to The Dead of Winter the most enjoyable?

I had already read this book when it first came out and was enthralled by the story. Its one of the few novels I've read that created such a creepy atmosphere I literally couldn't read it at night.

When I discovered there was an audiobook version I purchased it so my friend (who is not a reader) could enjoy it with me. At first I thought I would be thrown off by a female narrator on this title but Folly Blaine did a fantastic job with the material! She kept the tone I would've expected and built great atmosphere and suspense without being too dramatic or over the top. It was a really great balance!

Creepy

If you could sum up The Dead of Winter in three words, what would they be?

Just short of a Zombie Apocolypse, but, it is not a book about Zombies.

What did you like best about this story?

It was interesting enough to keep my attention, without being overly gory.

While not fighting Zombies in this book, it has the same feel. It is an interesting story, the ending felt a little rushed, but really it ended in the best possible way it could tying up MOST of the loose ends. The book has some gory parts but they are not overly done, just enough. Great story line, felt there could have been more action, but what there was of it was acceptable. This book does drag in a few places, where eye roll happens, but overall not bad.

Leave your zombie prejudices at home

The author has created a world that is absurd and dark. If you like the noir genre and enjoy all things zombie then this is right up your alley.

Steve Rimpici was AMAZING as the narrator in this. He has an amazing voice, and each character has it's own accent. He really brings this story to life.

Hard-Boiled Braineater

What did you love best about Braineater Jones?

Braineater Jones is so steeped in the hard-boiled detective genre of the mid-twentieth century it pays homage to, you might say it is saturated. The tone, the characters, the dialogue, it all feels so pulpy in its approach, the addition of zombies doesn't seem like so far a stretch.

Who was your favorite character and why?

Alcibe the talking zombie head kind of stole the show in a lot of scenes in which he was featured. From the get-go as he introduced himself to Braineater Jones and demonstrated his tenaciousness to escape his prison of a jar by basically wobbling about on his neck stump, I was pretty much on board with Alcibe. and credit to Steve Rimpici for a great voice attributed to Alcibe, as well. Loved it.

What about Steve Rimpicis performance did you like?

Aside from Alcibe, Steve Rimpici's range of voices for this story was great. While Braineater Jones' gruff private-eye voice dominated much of the story, that was fine by me.

The Horror of Addiction

Mark Matthews latest contribution to the horror fiction genre, On the Lips of Children plays on a similar theme as his first novel, Milk-Blood. The theme of addiction. This is a refreshing and much needed turn in the realm of horror fiction. Although the novels cover gives the impression of the supernatural the story is anything but, and has a very plausible scenario.

The story takes place in southern California between San Diego and Tijuana, Mexico. Actually, underneath that location, in one of the many drug smuggling tunnels in that region. A young, yet to be wed couple, Macon and Erin, along with their child Lyric are visiting San Diego for a marathon they plan to run.

Macon decides to go for an early morning jog toward the ocean when he finds himself snared by a subculture of homeless folks that are doing the bidding of a family that lives in one of the smuggling tunnels connecting So-Cal with Tijuana. Erin and daughter, Lyric soon follow this same path in search of Macon.

Dom of the Dead is a beautifully sweet tale with interesting twists and turns of grief, living life to the fullest and accepting your own desires. This is a story of being too afraid to reach for what you really want until it is too late. We see Carson, the female protagonist, going through the early stages of grief when her best friend Randall dies in a motorcycle accident before she had the courage to reach out for more than their friend zone relationship.

Randall is a dominant man who has dreamed of his best friend for years but did not want to taint Carson and their relationship. Throwing a fantasy one night stand style dating service into the mix is an interesting way to throw the two characters together with Randall as a ghost. The end is a beautiful twist of fate reminding you to reach out for life and hold on with all your strength while you can, after all tomorrow is never promised.

The reader is a good choice. You can believe she is Carson with the intonations and strength of words of a woman struggling through grief. The author and reader combination do a beautiful job of bringing this twisting story together.

Left me shivering ... for more from this great author.

Though a short story this was a powerful one. It got straight to the point without excessive amounts of exposition, as a good short story should. With a solid writing style and clearly a clever imagination one its immediately intrigued and quickly turning the pages to see that comes next.

At times people will mention during the conversation of books that they are transported to another world and fully engrossed within the story they are reading. This is quite rare for me, in fact, and something I long for when I set myself to reading something.

Shivers did this for me. Within a short amount of time I was where the action was, in the room, watching it happen rather than reading print on a page. I can not tell you how wonderful that feeling is, and how rare for me to find it.

I rarely give five stars to anything personally, as not many things truly earn that much from me. Shivers has. This story is well worth the price and a perfect "quick read" addition to the shelves of book lovers, horror fans, suspense, and mystery novels.

Odd, but a good read.

For a short horror story, this one is right on the mark. It's freaky, sexual (in an imaginary way), and certainly bloody. The villain is a clown, and it's a short mystery that really doesn't ever answer who the killer is.

I'm giving it three stars because it was a page turner, and hooked you in at the very beginning, but I think it could have been written a little better. The narration goes back and forth from memory to present, and in my opinion a little less cussing and frustration from the detective could have made it a better story.

All in all, it's worth 99 cents, but I don't know if I will recommend it to my friends. Hopefully, this is just a start to a good horror writing career for the author.

BRILLIANT!!!!

I love to read horror, and I consider myself an expert, and this is by far the best thing I have read in a very long time! I was hooked from page one and did not out it down. The story is so vivid you could actually feel the anger, the fear and the rage. I am the type of woman who cheers for the bad guys, and Frankie has stolen my heart. A sociopath clown that holds in all the torture he had suffered through his life has finally went into a violent rage. He takes care of them all with his...

Okay, there is where I will leave you! Now when you read this, make sure you have some Dr. Pepper on hand, trust me, it just might save your life!

I recommend this book to anyone who loves horror and is tired of all the crap remakes. This is an original story and it will give you chills! I loved it!

I really enjoyed this old timey horror novel!Kimberly Henrie was the perfect narrator.Sarah has no choice but to return to her hometown,to the house her grandmother left her.She has lost her marraige,home and job.Her family tried to move away ,but ,the evil still found them.

Super Creepy!

I really liked this book. It was super creepy. I thought the characters were well-developed, and I loved the character of the grandmother, as well as her relationship with her grandkids. The book kept me engaged, wanting to know what would happen next. It has a twist at the end, which I never suspected. I listened to the Audible audio version and the narrator was enjoyable to listen to. She had a nice voice and good character differentiation. I would listen to more books narrated by Kimberly Henrie, and I would definitely read more books by Kathryn Meyer Griffith. I really enjoy her books.

This book made it official, I am a big fan of Kathryn Meyer Griffith! This was my third book from this author and I've loved each one. It was such a creepy story, and not at all cheesy. The book starts out a little slower, with a lot of set up for the rest of the story. It didn't take long to get really interesting though. I was hooked early in and couldn't stop listening. I love characters that have abilities of some kind, so I really liked that the main character was psychic. The narrator of the audiobook did an awesome job and was perfect for this story. I really enjoyed this audiobook, and I will be reading another book from this author soon!

Very Very Very Boring

The narrator was excellent. The story was well paced, suspenseful and the characters were not stupid. Too often in ghost stories the characters drive me nuts because they can't accept or understand what's going on. These people were smart.

Ooh. I really enjoyed it as it was. I'd love to see another book from her in the same genre.

I don't think I have a favorite scene. Probably the interrupted game of Chutes & Ladders.

Lacy. She was smart and compassionate.

I wasn't very impressed by this book. Except for the main character, I felt the others really didn't have any depth. It's as though they were just there for "the ride." If this was a ghost story and was supposed to scare???? Well, we need to go back to the drawing board!

AH......MAZING!!!

I highly recommend this series!!! The delivery is fantastic and the action kept me on edge throughout the novel!! Love it, I hope book 7 makes it to audible!

Hell of a Great Book!!!

What made the experience of listening to Dead Hunger IV: Evolution the most enjoyable?

I loved hearing the different voices for each characters! The fluctuations of volumes when the story would get more intense or soften when just regular things happening!

What did you like best about this story?

I love the characters the best! The relationships among each is amazing even during the end of the world they still have humor, hope & love for one another!

Have you listened to any of John M. Perrys other performances before? How does this one compare?

I have only listened to the other Eric Shelman books! Sorry but I would be happy to find more of him to compare as I loved his soothing voice! His accents & more! He is really good at what he does! Bravo John Perry, Bravo!!!

If you could take any character from Dead Hunger IV: Evolution out to dinner, who would it be and why?

Oh Duh Flex of Course!!! He may end up being dessert from the descriptions! Hehe

Eric is one fabulous author & an even better guy!!! Can't wait to read the next one!!! Great job on the series man!!! Keep it up!!! We can never get tired of Flex, Gem, Hemp or Charlie!!!!

another action packed chapter in this fantastic saga of life and the Dead. must read

Good story, good narration, still lousy recording

Coming from listening to other stories, the quality of the recording is jarring. But you get used to it, so maybe if you don't listen to other books, you think everything's normal. The narrator himself is pretty good I think, nice trick when everyone says "when".

As usual there is alot of background into what the zombies are and how they behave and evolve, no identifiable plot holes regarding the science behind the zombies.

The "ratz" play hardly a noticeable role in this story, its all about the evolving smart zombies. And its not even over, wonder where the next book will take us.

fantastic instalment in the adventure :-) lots happened, with a few heart stopping moments.

Absolutely loved Eric's story telling! on to the next one!
