Rather be fishing

Well written, and a lot of fun to listen to. It would be easy for a book like this to quickly become boring, but it doesn't. Mike is a character you like, and often forget that he isn't real. When a writer can do that, that's pure talent, and I hope we get see more of Mike's adventures soon.

A Great Listen!!

I was really sad when this book came to an end. The characters had become like good friends and I just wanted the book to keep going so I could hang out with them. Nathan Glondys does a great job giving each character a distinct voice that is perfect for them. And, Lucretia Stanhope did a lovely job in the writing. The characters have life and depth and are well worth listening to. I also like the format. Each chapter became a short monster story that when taken together becomes a snapshot in the life of this monster hunter. Well done.

Great set of stories

The story:

None of the supernatural beings--werewolves, vampires-- were anything like what you'd normally read about. For example, the vampire is just a spirit, the werewolf person magically projects his consciousness into the body of a real wolf. So, essentially, all supernatural naturals creatures (based on this author/story) are simple spirits. That's kind of sad.

I do love a story that's supposed to be funny and actually turns out funny, as in makes me laugh. I was chuckling throughout this one. In the end, these were some great short stories.

The narrator:

As soon as I heard him I thought of Micheal Keaton as Beetlejuice. While I liked his voice he spoke in a stilted way, for example, (made-up dialogue) "'I'm going to the museum with you,' .....(much longer pause than normal).....she said." This was the case whenever he/she/I said. It seemed maybe he has a breathing issue which causes him to have to constantly catch his breath. That's the best way to explain it.

When he did female voices...Wow! It seemed like a completely different person was taking over given his (assume) natural voice is so gruff sounding.

Not sure where this audiobook stands regarding how many he already had under his belt, but I can see this narrator going on to becoming a great one.

The Devil's Play Place park was where the vampire/mummy used to do magic tricks? Who turned him into a mummy? How was the vampire created?

The vampire is in a mummies body and can't go too far from the body. This body was in a museum. Yet, a sign of a vampire being in this town seemed like something new.

A is for Adam by Marc Richard is an audio book I requested and the review is voluntary. It is clever and snarky, it may offend those that don't have a humorous bone, and it really isn't a LOL story. It is a snicker here, a smirk there, a smile, a giggle, a moan, and so one. A cute story that really doesn't go anywhere but cute anyway. Worthy of a read and the narration was just right for this book.

I didn't find this funny, just dumb

What could have made this a 4 or 5-star listening experience for you?

After 10 minutes I couldn't even listen to this. It seemed extremely immature and ridiculous.

Would you ever listen to anything by Marc Richard again?

I don't think so if this is a good example of his writing.

Lmao funny! Adam and Eve in a new light!

Get ready to laugh your back end off. This was hilarious! The view of the start of life in the garden of eden from Adam's view in this comedic romp is great. From how to name everything to the creation amid Adams little "Riblet" eve. The author and narrator deliver a wonderful escape from reality. This is a short funny book I listened to all in one sitting. I couldn't sleep so I plugged in my head phones and gave this a listen. My husband who sleeps next to me actually woke up twice because I was laughing... Opps.

Cute new take on Genesis.

This is a cute, humorous sarcastic take on the story of Genesis. Adam is the first person on earth, wakes up with a missing rib. He's just glad someone didnt steal his kidney. Lots of snark and humor follow. The character descriptions are hilarious, and some of the events are just a wee bit different than described in the bible. A fun story for the irreverent, and worth a listen.

Murder Is a Family Business

I got a real kick out of this thriller set in San Francisco and Silicon Valley. Lee's mix of Spanish and English is fun to follow as she treads a fine line of the mixed allegiances in her family's Anglo/Latino background. Lee is a woman I can relate to as she has to tangle with the inevitable tensions arising in a small family business. She also has to deal with her own impulsive nature--the acquisition of a stray cat at a murder scene, and a love of designer clothes that don't always fit the situation. Somehow, she still manages to unravel the murder and do so with plenty of humorous and edgy thinking. Reading about an intellectual property detective agency in a world where intellectual property theft is a big issue is new twist for a detective thriller. I enjoyed my trip into that world.

Fun and entertaining!

Liana Alvarez, private investigator for the family owned and run company Discretionary Inquiries, was wet, cold and miserable. She was in the storm without shelter while she was staking out the warehouse â her mother and head of DI, Lila, had specifically requested Lee do this stake out even though the company normally handled software issues. The person she was to keep an eye out for was the husband of Lilaâs long-time friend and she wanted it kept quiet. But when Lee discovered the body of her person of interest, her shock was immenseâ

Welcome to a small town full of nice people, people with angelic powers and of course Satan, or at least John who took over the role of Satan. And now he's bored with his role so he's busy messing with everyone's lives. Pokémon app is now an addiction (which is a sin) that will get you sent to hell and more weird and fun concepts. highly entertaining!

This was a fabulous book! I found it highly entertaining. I was not sure how I would feel about having any sympathy for the Devil, but I was totally surprised. before you know it, you like "john" and even feel sorry for him.

it's totally worth the read, but you should be warned, I had the the song, "Sympathy for the Devil" stuck in my head for 2 days :)

Entertaining to anyone who enjoys unconventional

I would recommend to my friends that have an unusual sense of humour and tolerance for the strange.

Which character as performed by David S. Dear was your favorite?

There are too many characters. David used various voices to identify individual characters but the book was mostly a narrative.

If you want a "sunny-side up novel- don't read this. If you enjoy the unconventional and strange I believe you will enjoy this book.

Each chapter is a stand alone narrative about an event in a character's life or some random ramblings. As you listen/ read through the book, some characters or stories are connected, hence the title of the book. I did not catch a connection with every story however. Maybe I need to listen a second time.

I found myself intrigued with each chapter but also questioning when "the point" would become obvious. I've never before enjoyed a book that I've had such conflicted feelings about let alone be curious to listen to it again.

Outer Limits meets Pulp Fiction

This book was different from the typical narrative and story structure, which was a nice change from the norm. The humor and strangeness might not be for everyone but I enjoyed it. The narration was very fitting to the setting and feel of the book. Voices, accents, and inflections were all performed fabulously.

If you are looking for a standard story structure with a beginning, middle, end, plot, resolution... this book is not for you. If you are looking for random strangeness all tied together in odd ways, then give this book a try!

Buckle up

Right on the cover "Like starting off an acid trip with a pitcher of Red Bull" the tone was set and my expectations were clear. Obviously, this was going to be similar to a typical night with 15-20 of my closest friends in that tiny one bedroom apartment I shared with my crazy ass boyfriend when I was 20. Similar to the outrageous ramblings of my favorite people who had over-indulged in...well, whatever...you know what I'm talking about.

Lo leggemmo per anni e anni e lo imparammo a memoria, e qualche malato riuscì a sopravvivere grazie alle risate. È chiaro che quando vidi la Biblioteca Ambrosiana scappai a gambe levate, ricordando il povero ragionier Filini.

This book is hi-larious.

Well, that was fun!

It's not super complicated (and not in a bad way. It's not super predictable or anything). Basically, a college kid inadvertently gets involved with the mafia. Shenanigans ensue. Hilarious shenanigans.

This book is really funny. It's short, fast paced, full of movie, book, and other pop culture references, breaks the fourth wall in a really funny way, and it is absolutely chock full of lols. I definitely know a Chester in real life. I also love how the cover has him wearing socks with sandals. Because of course he would. Of course.

Jeff Hays is the actual perfect narrator for this. It wasn't just him telling the story, he *became* Ellis. He told Ellis' story very, very well.

This is a great, fun use of 4 and a half hours. :)

Entertaining!

Three reasons why you need to listen to this book:

1. It's fun! Three college guys blunder through the events of the story like the Tarot Fool, running into trouble but still managing to get out of it somehow. There's danger, action and a roommate from hell. You can't go wrong with that :D

2. It's written by Timothy Dalton. No, not the James Bond Timothy Dalton - but this one is also pretty good at what he does. His characters are relatable, and even the most annoying ones have redeemable qualities. I'm looking at you, Chester!

3. Jeff Hays rocks. I heard him narrating before, and it's a pleasure every time. I believed his Ellis completely.

Give this a listen, folks. You'll find yourselves thoroughly entertained.

LOL for real. not the fake kind you text.

I didn't want it to end. The story was told so well. the main character breaks the 4th wall as its told from his perspective and its seamless. I want this made into a movie. its a buddy comedy that will make you literally laugh out loud.

The reading of the story is great and the characters were done very well. Jeff really made them come to life. I imagined one of the main characters voice, timing and delivery of his idiocy a little different but its still well done. One such part Jeff nailed it for me and i choked on my water because i started laughing. People at work were looking at me weird and thought i was dying.

Overall this is an amazing listen and, again, I need to see this come to life in a movie.

Only Time Travel Could Save This Book

This book could have been a great book. Could have been 5 stars. The story concept is wonderful, including a magical ending. But like other reviewers here, I wanted to travel through time and grab Mr. Mandery by the shoulders and say, "Stop getting off on ridiculous tangents." It's not JUST that he gets off on tangents. Some of that is okay here and there, or if done right, can enhance a book and its characters even if frequent. There are two problems with the tangents in this particular book. First, they are way, way, way too long. Second, they are off-putting. Instead of being cute and smart, and adding to the story by giving it some quirkiness and spice, or further developing the characters, they make you feel like the author is standing in the corner of your room at all times lifting weights, flexing, and saying "See how smart I am? See how smart I am? Do you love me yet?" The comments by other reviewers about "trying to hard" are dead on.

Even the acknowledgements at the end, where he intrudes upon the reader to tell them how great his life is now, is of the same ilk. I mean for the love of God, he just got away from his ego enough to wrap the book up with a magical ending, and then comes right back to "Now look at me, Now look at me again! I'm over here. Aren't I great? Don't you wish you were me?"

If time travel is ever invented, the editor of this book should realize that the real story here isn't that the main character blew his relationship with Q. No, it's that the editor blew what could have been a best seller, a modern day classic. He should travel back through time and edit the hell out of this book to get Mr. Mandery out of his own way. It's really a crying shame that such a fantastic concept was ruined.

I read that this might be made into a movie. That would redeem it, because the screenwriter would remove all this nonsense no doubt. It could make a great movie, because the bare storyline really is fantastic.

To me, it is clear that Mandery has written a fable, a tale that serves as a warning. Like a fable, there are many implausible aspects to this tale. The character, for one, unnamed and ostensibly malleable, is not only a little unbelievable, but often-times un-likeable.

What a fun book! The characters are both very familiar and outrageous. The story lines all tie together nicely at the end. Finally, a favorite of the author's previous book also makes a fun appearance.

And I will never think of sitting in a boring meeting again without contemplating pulling a "Bob Watson".

Wild Ride!

What a crazy story! Multiple twists and turns, but filled with reflective lessons on life. At several points, you can't even tell where the story is going, but somehow The Bob Watson all comes together with a surprising end... if you like wacky and unexpected story telling with a touch of humor and intrigue, you'll like The Bob Watson.
