Great book !

My 5 year old was eager to learn Fante language. This book is perfect. Very simple to read. The only minor issue is that most of the language is written Fante. So I mainly skip the not so common words. My daughter is really excited and loves the book since she can now read in Fante and also loves the English interpretation.

Good

I purchased the book and did not get the audio as soon as requested but it was later received. The quality is good. Youthful.

Not perfect, but not the worst either

First of all, for an instructional language audio, this one is very short. Not much can be gained from 45 minutes of instruction.

Having said that, a lot of information has been crammed into these 45 minutes. It exposes the listener to a lot of general, very basic vocabulary, which is well chosen for a beginner and not for the traveller. It's a selection of commonly used nouns, verbs, adjectives, question words, etc. This makes it good resource for kids who struggle with Afrikaans at school (who are unlikely to need directions how to get to the post office or order a beer).

There is one major flaw in all this: each word is introduced on it's own, then repeated in a half-phrase, then in a full sentence. As far as I'm concerned the half-phrase is totally superfluous and misleading, and often it is wrongly translated. Also, since word order is supposed to change depending on the sentence, the partial sentences are often grammatically incorrect and nonsensical.

Despite this, I use this book on a regular basis to try build my kids' vocabulary. Afrikaans language resources are scarce, and I've encountered a lot worse.

What disappointed you about Everyday Portuguese for Beginners - 400 Actions & Activities?

Did not come close to the promises made. Such nonsense phases they thought you needed to converse in Portuguese. Example ... "I gave by bus seat to an old woman". Really ... like one would use that in everyday conversation,
