Hugely overstated title?

What disappointed you about The Hacking Bible: The Dark Secrets of the Hacking World?

Translated from another language by a non English speaker?The narrator did fine but what he had to read was broken English. I believe the writer has plenty of knowledge of the subject but he spent more time than needed on a cursory history of hacking.He stayed on the lower levels and just didn't go deep or detailed.

What could Kevin James have done to make this a more enjoyable book for you?

I would have preferred Kevin had jumped in to the tech sooner and deeper.

How did the narrator detract from the book?

The narrator did fine with what he had to work with, unless he would have corrected the wording and grammar as he read.

Cut nothing. This book needed more detailed information and less common knowledge.

This is a basic guide on how hacking works. Nothing new if you keep up on Defcon or Black Hat talks on Youtube. You're better off saving your money and spending your time playing with Metasploit and learning how Python works.

Very poor English but info is not bad for beginners. Would not waist your money.

Appallingly spoken English the worst book ever

this book is read with the worst spoke English i have ever heard. i would not recommend this book.

almost unlistenable

The writing is 3rd grade and the text to speech AI makes it worse. Read with flagrant disregard for any punctuation or sentence structure.

I gave up at 1 hour 20 mins.

It's my own fault for not listening to the sample.

If I could give it no stars, I would.

can't listen to it when the syntax is read out. I usually listen to audio books in the car and this was impossible to follow

What made the experience of listening to The Ultimate Fallout Guide: A History of the Wasteland and an In-Depth Look at What Makes the Series So Special the most enjoyable?

I loved how it talks about all the games I have played in the Fallout series. I am a huge fan of Fallout and would say this is a necessity to the Fallout experience!

Really cool fallout collectors item

I found this book extremely enjoyful. I really loved all of the history packed into this audiobook. it was great to hear about by childhood past and all the details that I never paid attention to back when I was child. Thanks for the memories!!

Good idea, felt incompletely done

Narrator sounded extremely stilted, as if he hasn't rehearsed or didn't know the material. Had trouble with iconic series words.

The author has a clear passion for the series (although hard to hear based on the narrator) but needed a little more refinement in his lore and fact research. For example, Fallout 4 is not the only game where you can continue past the endgame, and many factions and much lore from the first and second games is still a part (albeit background) of the later games. The NCR had its roots in Fallout 1, developed in Fallout 2, and became a power in New Vegas.

overall, not a bad piece for someone unfamiliar with the series, but still has the feel of a school research paper. If the author went into more depth and double checked resources, could be a good piece.

Most Python instruction books I had read were easy to understand

I had trouble understanding him. Most Python instruction books I had read were easy to understand, but I had difficulty understanding his style of writing.

Confusing English Interferes with Getting to the Programming

I may be missing something, but the sentences and English are strange and confusing. Start with the subtitle," Learn How to Write Codes." Then move on to the first sentence in the introduction, "I initially needed to learn Python in light of the fact that I needed to make a computer diversion." What is a computer "diversion"? Here is another sentence from the introduction, "I never thought I took in a language all around ok to feel good utilizing it, significantly less really appreciate programming." I think I might be able to figure what is meant, but in reading a book about programming, I shouldn't find the English to be more challenging than the programming language. Here is another sentence, again from Page 1. "To give me more motivation to take in the language, I chose to recreate a pretending diversion from my adolescence as a PC amusement." Finally, one last sentence, "Python is likewise viewed as an abnormal state language, importance it deals with a considerable measure of the snort work included in programming." Given that this is a book that is suppose to introduce people to programming, the language should not be getting into the way of its presentation. I assume that the author understands their material, and if we were in a room discussing the topic, I would get the English use, but as it currently stands, there are too many other books seeking to do the same thing that read much more easily.

Codes? Not The Best First Impression

Can't say much for the content of this book as i'm just browsing around a bit... but as a seasoned senior developer of 20+ years who works in C/C++ and Python i can tell you that no experienced programmer refers to computer source code in the plural with the word "codes". In the real world it's always the "lines of code", or "lets take a look at the code", or "copy the source code over to this usb stick". It is never the plural CODES. A more proper sub-title for the book would've been "Learning How To Write Code". The only people I've ever heard who use the plural in this way were non-computer people. This may in fact be a decent read but any programming book that has "codes" in its title makes me very suspect of its quality.

You will hate this audiobook

What disappointed you about Hacking?

While the book contains some useful information, its writing and performance are so bad as to render it almost useless. The performer has a tooth whistle that can actually cause headaches if listened to for long. This is totally unbelievable! Second, and more outlandish, the writers have substituted synonyms for the usual terms on a massive scale throughout the book. It is hard to understand why they did this, unless it was some misguided attempt to hide the copying of text from elsewhere. Otherwise, it simply makes everything more difficult. Listening to this is an exercise in figuring out the right synonym, simply to be sure you know what they are talking about.

What could Emily Goldstein have done to make this a more enjoyable book for you?

So many things are wrong with this book! First of all, she (if this is a real name) could have not substituted the weird synonyms. Second, a lot of the material is repetitious, and a lot is extraneous. Also, she could have not claimed that this is a book for beginners. I can't imagine how someone without some knowledge of the field already could get anything out of the book.

Would you be willing to try another one of Jim D Johnstons performances?

No. Never. His monotonous style would be bad enough, even without the tooth whistle. I really don't understand how Audible accepted this performance. Perhaps there is no quality control.

You didnt love this book... but did it have any redeeming qualities?

If you can stand the obnoxious presentation, there is actually some useful information for those attempting to hack or protect systems. It's already getting dated, however. Also, there's really not much here that can't be found elsewhere, in much more accessible form.

This is a great book for masochists. This is the worst book I have ever encountered on Audible. Audible ought to listen to this and determine whether they want to continue to offer it.

What was most disappointing about Elijah Hunters story?

It was like a high-level fly-over that I might expect in a product descripton on Walmart.com really did not teach anything new.
