Rio Hondo Prep lost their first game of the season to Campbell Hall 34-27 on Friday night. Head Coach Mark Carson recaps the game and talks about the emotions of his team. Coach Carson gives high praise to the RHP family and answers a voicemail from alum Steve Aman. We are also joined by Senior RB Jonathan Guerrero who was named the 210 Prep Sports Boys Athlete of the Week. JG rushed for 195 yards on 27 carries and scored 4 touchdowns (3 running, 1 receiving). There are still playoff hopes for the Kares going forward, but they need some more impressive wins on their resume to finish the season strong.

Katrina Ghazarian is the CEO of Gameday HR and a former basketball official. She is also the host of a new podcast called Values & Vino. Katrina shares how basketball officiating prepared her in some ways for her new passion of Creating Cultures That Win. Rio Hondo Prep improved to 6-0 with a 41-0 victory over Bosco Tech on a hot Saturday afternoon in Rosemead. Head Coach Mark Carson talks about the slow start and dealing with the elements. He also answers three questions from some alumni. The topics discussed are related to playoff scenarios, the new weight room, and the Rio advantage of playing together since youth ball. We are also joined by Senior TE/LB Calvin Johnson. He shares what it's like to play alongside his younger brother Colby and how special it is to represent the Johnson legacy in Rio Hondo Prep Football. The Kares have a huge game this Friday night against Campbell Hall for Homecoming. They need all the support they can get. Beat The Vikings!!!!

Steve Martin played in Rio Hondo Prep's first ever CIF Championship Game back in 1972. Although the Kares lost that day, he and his teammates were considered the pioneers for one of the great high school football programs in the San Gabriel Valley. Steve went on to a great career in the sound industry and coached countless kids in Kare Youth League for many years. Steve Martin is an incredible man of faith and a tremendous example of perseverance. He shares an unfortunate experience that tested him greatly a while back that will inspire anyone going through hardships in their own life.

Head Coach Mark Carson recaps the game and answers two voicemails from Rio alums Landon Goodwell (2005) and Bill Ritter (2003). Coach also gives high praise to the RHP Medical Staff and offers insight on how the football program has made improvements behind the scenes. We are also joined by Senior QB Damyan Diaz. He talks about being a team leader and his new role as Academy President.

Dave Carson Sr has dedicated his life to making Kare Youth League a better place for children. He joined the organization back when it was called Boys Christian League and has always called it Home. Mr Carson and his wife Marian have raised five amazing children who have gone on to accomplish a great deal in the work of serving others. Two have become coaches, one a teacher, one a pastor, and another worked in the White House for a Presidential Administration. Mr Carson is as humble as they come and gives all the credit to God and his wonderful wife. He chats about his upbringing, the importance of KYL, and some thoughts on each of his children.

Desmond Reed was a running back and kick returner for the USC Trojans from 2003-2007. He won two national championships and lost a potential third in arguably the greatest college football game of all time against Texas in 2006. Desmond was surrounded by amazing coaches and players during his time at USC. He fought through injuries and stood out as a guy who was willing to do anything to help the team. Desmond played high school football for the Temple City Rams who happen to play against my alma mater, Rio Hondo Prep, tonight at 7:00pm. We chat about the recent firing of Clay Helton and the glory days of USC Football under Pete Carroll. Desmond gives his thoughts on how the program can get back to what it once was and shares his perspective from some memorable moments that all Trojan fans will remember forever.

We discuss the importance of the pregame festivities and how Rio dominated in 2 of the 3 phases from the game. Later on, Sean O'Leary, a Temple City graduate from 2002, joins me to chat about the upcoming game between our alma maters. He was a TC classmate of former USC running back Desmond Reed, whom we hope will be on the podcast later this week. Sean and I look back at experiencing 9/11 from our perspectives as high school kids and also make our predictions for the game this Friday night.
