There’s been a lot of discussion about sakuga and animation in the anime community at the moment, so in this episode I am deciding to tackle the topic. How has the medium evolved from a technical standpoint to get to where we are today? What exactly are ‘sakuga animations’? What pieces of anime stand out in the scene in terms of how they’re animated? These are all topics which will be dissected and analysed in this episode. On the side I talk about yet another borderline-H manga I’ve been reading (Koibana Onsen) and how I am trying my best to get my head around the Marley Arc of the Attack on Titan manga.

Since I've milked out all the analysis possible from Attack On Titan's Return to Shiganshina Arc, I think it is only fair to look at the arc(s) that got us there in the first place. That means that we have to travel back to Trost, the location of the first battle in 'modern day'. In this episode, I will be taking a dive into the main debate that the arc plays with, rationality versus instinctual behaviour. I will also discuss where the arc excels from a technical standpoint and my overall feeling for this part of the show. On the side, I talk about my experience with the conclusion of Berserk's Golden Age Arc and I share a few of my thoughts on Grave of the Fireflies (1988).

Promare has been rolling out more and more throughout the west and I finally got the chance to see it, which means I can now do a bit of analysis! Without any spoilers, I will be taking a look at this action-packed original movie made by Studio Trigger. In this episode I'll be diving into the context behind Promare and Studio Trigger, the 'out of the box' narrative styles of Hiroyuki Imaishi & Kazuki Nakashima and whether the film 'lacks substance' on a thematic level. The Action Arc welcomes Asuka Langley to the team, making her the Third Child to pilot the Eva units. Her presence is definitely not one that can go unnoticed, being the overbearing, boisterous she is. As a result, the entire dynamic between the characters is reworked and now waiting to be explored. In this episode, I will be taking a dive into Neon Genesis Evangelion (1995) for a second time, looking into how the dynamic changes between the characters in this arc, Asuka's behaviour, the slow development of the Human Instrumentality Project and more. On the side, I briefly lay out what I thought of Promare (2019) and my initial understanding of the Berserk (1989) manga. There is also a brief announcement at the beginning of the episode in regards to the show going forward.

As Episode 2 proved, I am not particularly a big fan of the Tokyo Ghoul:re anime adaptation... which I have decided to make myself suffer even more with an analysis and review of the 2nd Season. However, in this episode, I will make a greater attempt to pick up on the parts that I liked in regards to narrative and music. This session I will be doing a general analysis of the 2nd Season of Tokyo Ghoul:re, how the narrative remains 'Kaneki-centric' and whether the show has a solid conclusion. On the side, I reflect on the ending of Dumbbell Nan Kilo Moteru?, what makes a good ending and my continuous obsession with romance manga.

Attack On Titan's Return to Shiganshina Arc makes yet another appearance on the podcast!
