What lasts longer in swinging London, a dessert or a dream?
From Cockney neighbors to an encounter with Mick Jagger, she bakes her way through it all. Apple Crumble is the third in a series of charming food memories that describe the life and relationships of bestselling author Marjory Harris. In 1960s London, Marjory is a young and ambitious newlywed struggling to maintain her marriage. Highlights are high tea with her landlady's parrot and mingling with celebrities in the heyday of swinging London. Once again, Marjory Harris has delivered a glimpse into a past cultural era.

A short, but filling, read!
I read and learned so much from Marjory Harris's book, The Personal Power Roadmap, that when I noticed she was writing a series of food-based memoirs, I had to take a taste. One, I love to eat food and watch cooking shows, and two, so many of my favorite memories (and not great ones!) have a particular food or a meal attached to them.
In 'Apple Crumble,' Ms. Harris opened up and shared through key foods (like in the title) her journey of self-discovery during the time she lived in London in the '60's. We learn how her marriage "crumbled" and why and what she did to put herself back together. Though Ms. Harris's book was a short read (I do wish it was longer; I wasn't quite ready to leave London yet), it still filled me up, and I'm looking forward to reading the other two books in the series. And it's cool to get to know the personal side of an author whose nonfiction book I enjoyed and helped me to grow.
Another entertaining memoir of Marjory Harris' captivating life, and an irresistible recipe for apple crumble
Marjory Harris' new series of food memoirs are short, funny, to the point and wholly entertaining.
I loved the descriptions of the subtle sensual experience of living in London; I spent time there in the 1980s and I can wholeheartedly validate her descriptions. Her tales of English food made me laugh. Why are there no British restaurants, only Pubs that may offer food?
What I liked best about Marjory's musings on life in London is the moment she decided to move back to New York. She described the cultural atmosphere that people and places conjure up. The "energetic drivenness" in the US that beckoned her return is something I strongly relate to.
In this entertaining memoir, you'll take a breath of England, have a moment of reflection of what makes us creative, contemplate marriage and walk away with an irresistible recipe for apple crumble!
A delicious glimpse back in time!
This is the third book in the food memory series by Marjory Harris. I've read each one! Each captures the feeling of a different era and each includes a recipe! In Apple Crumble, I particularly enjoyed the descriptions of what it was like to live in London in the 1960s. These stories are short enough to finish in one sitting and really entertaining. Great for subway reading or when you're in the mood to be transported to a past era for a brief visit. I'm already looking forward to the next story!
Enjoyable, short read that helps you learn about history and food
This is the third food memory from Marjory Harris that I've read. While I have enjoyed all of them, this one has been my favorite so far.
