With poodle skirts, pop-it beads, a young Elvis, and painting-by-numbers, Aunt Fannie's Hot Pink Kugel is a delicious way to revisit the 1950s.

Very fun, nostalic receipe booklet for the kugel lover
This is a very short, very fun receipe for a 1950s version of a kugel...I believe. Since I didn't grow up in the US, I don't have parental memories of American 1950s cuisine, but I loved the tale and it made me laugh. I've never eaten a kugel but I've heard of it. I had no idea they could be sweet or savory. I had no idea the ingedients could be so, well, improvised. What I liked most was the family background and the personal description of American life in the 50s.
Marjory Harris, who is always great at research and delivering detailed information in her books, wrote a humerous food memoir this time.
Great Recipe and Wonderful Memory
My Aunt Fannieâs Hot Pink Kugel: A 50âs Food Memory is a delightful short story about how food can play such an important role within or memories. Itâs about an aunt and kugel. I have never had kugel and really had no idea what it was until I read Marjory Harrisâ story.
The book stimulated my own memories and took me back many years ago to the kitchens of my mother, grandmothers, and aunts. What wonderful, loving times they were. I look forward to reading more of Ms. Harrisâ stories and learning about recipes that may or may not be familiar to me.
Tastefully Delicious
From a fanciful "fling" with Elvis, food and fun, this short tale is descriptive and delightful. And of course, this is all centered around the very tasty hot pink noodle kugel the author's auntie used to cook for her. I must admit, that even though I have no idea what a kugel tastes like, I'm very interested to learn more, and to sample some.
A short and delightful reminiscence!
This charming story took me right back to the 50's. It's perfect for a short read and a distraction from the present. I remember those poppet beads, the poodle skirts and watching every Elvis Presley movie at least three times! Can't wait for the next in this series. In the interim, I'm going to try my hand at that kugel recipe.
A fun short read -- vividly written
This was such a fun short read! The author writes about these memories so well, I felt as though I were there with her, and now I'm all curious about this kugel recipe. I'm not that great a cook, either, and none of my recipes are dietetic. I signed up on the author's website, though, to get the recipe for her kugel and to be notified when new food memories are published. I look forward to reading them, and I hope she publishes another one soon!
