Publisher's Summary:
Ike Schwartz, sheriff of Picketsville, Virginia, and his fiancée, Ruth Harris, president of a local university, survived a trying year of academic and local politics and now seek some peace and quiet on Scone Island, a rocky piece of land four miles off the coast of Maine. Its lack of electricity, a reliable water supply, and phone service guarantees their peaceful seclusion. The fact that there has been a suspicious accident resulting in the death of the mysterious Harmon Staley need not concern them at all. And it doesnt - until Ikes past as a CIA agent rolls in on him like the areas famous 12-foot tides.
Two more murders involving former colleagues elsewhere in the country have Ikes old friend from the agency, Charlie Garland, searching the files for a connection. However, stonewalling by the CIA, as well as conspiracies, real and imagined, mean that Ike and Ruth are alone on the island and facing an unknown number of determined assassins.
To complicate matters, Ruths mother decides to drop in on them just as the excitement begins. Late arrivals by the director of the CIA and Charlie Garland only make matters worse. Meanwhile, Ruth daydreams of Plan B - Las Vegas - in hopes that she and Ike will finally be able to get away from it all while lost in the crowds.
Frederick Ramsay was born in Baltimore and received a doctorate from the University of Illinois. In addition to his Ike Schwartz mysteries and other novels, he is the author of scientific articles, tracts, and theses.
Critic Reviews:
"Engaging. Surefooted prose speeds this well-told tale of greed and betrayal among the nations covert elite. Ruth and Ikes intellectual bickering will amuse literary and history buffs." (Publishers Weekly)
"An eagerly awaited vacation on a quiet Maine island becomes a nightmare for a former CIA agent and his significant other. The latest mystery-thriller for Ikeprovides all the fast-paced action and danger readers have come to expect." (Kirkus Reviews)

Just one good read.
Really liked this one.
This was one good book. We get to see Ike in survival mode ala his CIA days.
Ikes A frame is turning out to not be a good place to relax. Everyone knows about it and he and Ruth are constantly getting calls.
Ruth is still recovering from her accident and Ike decides he and Ruth need to disappear for a while.
Ruth tells him about a house she has inherited. The house is on Scone Island. Scone is off the coast of Maine. Its an island with no electricity, cars, phones and no cell phone reception. The only way on and off is by boat via the tides. A perfect place for she and Ike to "disappear."
Meanwhile there's a death on Scone Island. A guy was found in the ocean after he "fell" off a cliff. The guy is an ex CIA spook. A guy who was on the island as someone else. A new identity provided by the CIA.
Enter Charlie Garland. He's tasked with trying to figure out if Whitlock, the dead guy, was and accidental death or something else. He also finds that Ike and three operators Ike worked with on several ops that Whitlock ran might be involved. He can't find any of them and Whitlock was less than an honest CIA handler or operative.
So begins one really good read. We have bodies piling up and Charlie going into operator mode because he doesn't know if the Director of the CIA, his boss, is dirty.
