    Good information, TERRIBLE presentation!
The speech impediment and frequent misspronouncation aside, why on earth would you have music playing in the background???
The biology of the ears follows rhythm and tune so it is a CONSTANT mental effort to distinguish what is being said around invasive and extraneous sound, and it only gets worse when there is singing in the background meaning you have two voices at once to fight through.
After 40mins of listening I had to turn it off due to a headache and I usually listen to whole books in one lot without effort.
    Challenging listen!
Whoever's idea was it to place singing underneath the narration? The music renders it very difficult to hear whats being said, I find myself missing whole chunks. Far too much music (two or three songs before it gets started) and music pauses throughout. Thank goodness the book is only an hour long! I still havnt a clue what its about

  • The Ark, the Shroud, and Mary Audiobook by Philip Gardiner

Title: The Ark, the Shroud, and Mary
Subtitle: Gateway into a Quantum World
    Author: Philip Gardiner
    Narrator: Philip Gardiner
    Format: Unabridged
Length: 1 hr and 6 mins
    Language: English
    Release date: 06-29-07
    Publisher: Reality Entertainment
Ratings: 1.5 of 5 out of 17 votes
    Genres: Nonfiction, Unexplained Phenomena
    Publisher's Summary:
These questions and others are explored in The Ark, The Shroud, and Mary. In this unique and thought-provoking work, Philip Gardiner proves that the Ark of the Covenant, the Shroud of Turin, and Mary are united in ways never before imagined.
Traveling across the world, from Rome to India, Portugal to Egypt, Gardiner uncovers the trail of the Ark and finds that it does not lead to Ethiopia, as many believe, but instead in a direction that nobody could have imagined.
The trail of the Ark takes Gardiner on a hunt into the very heart of an ancient secret society with clandestine meetings in far off lands. Uniting the myth, tradition, and language of the Ark with the Shroud of Turin, Gardiner then goes on to re-date it, reveal how it was made, and identify whose image it actually recreates.
Through his new-found contacts in the world of secret societies, Gardiner then shows how this incredible secret was protected by a dual brotherhood throughout time and was the secret source of the enlightenment spoken of by numerous orders, from the Sufis to the Knights Templar.
The Ark, The Shroud, and Mary outshines The Da Vinci Code for the simple reason that it is the factual story of one man's fight to uncover the truth.

    Don't Bother
The most annoying thing about this "book" is that he's reading it to you with loud, mediocre heavy metal blaring in the background, so you have to strain to undertand him sometimes. Also, he stops talking for up to 5 minutes at a time so that you can enjoy said mediocre music without the annoyance of his prose. If I wanted to listen to music, I would pop a CD into my car's player!
This is more of a pamphlet than a book, as I suspect that once you take out all the irritating music, it's probable about 30 minutes of actual reading. The book's description on this site is much more informative than the book itself!
How anyone would compare this to the davinci code is completely beyond me, since the davinci code is an actual book, as opposed to this meager offering. He's mostly rambling, and while there are a few interesting tidbits buried in there, most can't be heard over the din of terrible music.
The Ark, the Shroud, and Mary
This is the worst book on Audible, EVER!
If ever Audible.com ever gave a Mulligan, this would be it. Pure, absolute junk. annoying junk. Music loud and unnecessary, and BAD,BAD,BAD!!!!!!
If there was away to give a negative star this would be a negative 5 star.
    DO NOT GET THIS BOOK.
    AWFUL!!!!
I have read Gardiner's books and will stick to the actual books! Like other review stated the music is AWFUL and the book puts forth an hypothesis which is hard to follow and believe and I am a GNOSTIC! Don't waste your time or money dowloading this book!
    Needs Prof Mixing
Hardly worth a whole book, barely enough material for a chapter. Loud music throughout, wasting space and combatting with an extremely heavy Brittish accent. Get in book if interested.
    I feel so stupid
I should have trusted on the reviews about this one... I've decided to give it a chance... It is horrible.

It seems that the experts interviewed have based their interpretations more on faith than on rationality and facts.
After reading the book all the questions have remained.

Extracts from other MH works. Needs pauses.
The description of this needs to be clearer. These are extracts from other, longer works, of Marilynn Hughes. This also includes the quotes used in those works, such as from various sacred texts by the Rosicrucians, or The Urantia Book. This is mentioned at the beginning of the work, after the audio book is purchased.
I would have been interested in only Marilynn Hughes' experiences, and am not interested in hearing again portions of other audio books I already have. To listen to extracts of those books, pulled out because they seem to have a similar theme, makes no sense to someone who already has the longer works. Please put the same description read to the listener down in writing for the audio book description.
And, because this is being read, and the listener cannot see a new Chapter, or paragraph, or the period at the end of a sentence, the narrator really needs to pause. The very first story told ended ambiguously and the next story started and I had no idea what was going on because there was no pause indicating the end of a topic or paragraph and the beginning of something new. Also, quotes from other authors or texts are read in a similarly continuous manner and I have no idea that "someone else" is being read until the end of the few quoted sentences have a book and verse referenced.
Pauses are important. Or, maybe put a little ringing bell between topics. Or, maybe a little descriptive sentence or two saying why this extract was selected, and from which of Marilynn Hughes' book it came from.
Because Marilynn's books are already disorganized in presentation, jumping from one experience to another, these extracts which are supposed to focus on one theme would have been better presented with some descriptive introductory sentences and pauses to delineate changes in topics.
    Irritating narration
Mildly interesting and pleasant, it wasn't exactly bursting with information. The narration actually ruined the book. The narrator employs a vocal trend called vocal frying, where she makes her voice croak at the end of most words/ sentences... once noticed it becomes very irritating. In future I will avoid books narrated by this woman.

    A word about the content
Would you try another book written by Tom Slemen or narrated by Norman Gilligan?
Just because it was not for me doesn't mean others wont enjoy the element of "True" ghost stories. I prefer stories with more humour and action to balance the death and realism of life.
How did the narrator detract from the book?
Personally I found the narration flat. I realise that voices are a very personal thing and that a narrator who would suit one listener would drive another listener to the brink or to sleep.
    Any additional comments?
My strongest feeling about this collection is that it should have a warning about the disturbing content. The first story has a brutal rape described in detail. At least one later story features the suicide of a young girl. Yet another features the appalling murder of a new born baby. I know that not everyone will be troubled by these, as these stories have a fictional aspect and are ghost stories but I think its worth mentioning.

    Riepilogo Editore:
