Whilst Deborah can turn her hand to an incredibly wide range of areas of expertise and industries, it seems to be making it difficult to find new customers who aren’t recommended via word of mouth or referral.

What we cover in today’s episode was so much fun and my very best kind of episode as we work through the process of developing a sales message from start to finish by focusing first on the target market and the problems they are currently facing, not the services which she offers.

The benefit of this is that you can create products which fit perfectly to the market you are selling to without risking wasting your time making things that aren’t needed.

I’ve got a fantastic episode for you today as I’m joined once again by Lawrence Taylor of Taylor Pickering.

Now it wasn’t too long ago when Lawrence last joined us, and that was an awesome episode which I recommend you listen to if you haven’t already.

However, we’ve once again got something a little different for you today as it’s another episode which is dictated by the coronavirus situation.

Lawrence runs a plumbing and heating company and like many businesses, is being currently hit hard by the crisis we all seem to be facing right now.

Whilst a number of his services have been stopped, Lawrence is still able to provide emergency services and feels a duty to join the huge number of people who are helping keep the country afloat during these difficult times.

For Lawrence, the secret to staying afloat during these difficult times is actually the same as it usually is, only intensely magnified. It’s a laser focus on the needs (both emotionally and functionally) of his customers.

There are some great thinking strategies used in this one, and I’m sure you’ll agree, the plan we come up with at the end is well worth the listen.

Hopefully, you’ll be able to use this thought process to help keep your business afloat, or at least allow you to hit the ground running when you’re allowed to re-open.

Even though we run a web-based business and I’d consider us to be pretty tech-savvy, there were a number of ideas which took me by surprise.

Additionally, we move on to looking at creative ways which any business owner can try and turn a crisis situation, like we're now, into something more positive.

I'm pleased that we recorded this because I think it's going to be massively beneficial to lots of people listening, who might otherwise be getting very anxious about what the future holds.

Steve joins us all the way from (not so sunny) Florida and is an expert on Podcasting in both his own business when he’s helping his customers to benefit from this marketing phenomenon too.

What I love most about the insight which Steve is about to share, is that it all comes from real-life experience. He worked his way up in business and really came into his own when applying his sales and marketing skills with like-minded entrepreneurs.

Like anybody who has achieved success in something, Steve’s valuable lessons are derived from things that have worked well for him and from mistakes that he’s made along the way, and more importantly how you can avoid making the same ones too.

As a podcaster, I’m already converted into the benefit of hosting a podcast, but the ideas which Steve shares were genuinely eye-opening.

Whilst we touch on the logistics of starting a podcast, the bulk of what we talk about is his unique system for leveraging your time investment to build rapport, generate high-quality referrals and ultimately bring more customers into your business.

I’d certainly recommend a pen and paper for this one as there are some amazing marketing strategies even if you’re not considering creating a podcast of your own.

Emerald Starfish work in helping small and medium businesses to recruit new staff into their business without the usual stress, frustrations and time consumption which face anyone trying to do this themselves. 

The big difference in what Caroline does is their approach. Unlike the typical agency who simply places a candidate for a set fee or a percentage of the agreed salary, they work on behalf of the employer to create an authentic experience which is proven to attract better fitting staff which fit with company values and the culture of the businesses.

As you would expect from a business which delivers consistently high results, most of her current customers come from word of mouth referrals.

Aside from delving into exactly how she helps her customers, we focused largely on Profit Accelerator #1 which is how we can translate what she talked about into a powerful sales message. 

During the episode, I shared our 3-step process on how to create copywriting which attracts your ideal customers and encourages more of them to take action.

For example, dogs aren’t just walking, they are taken on adventures which might include games and activities to stimulate their minds too.

Whilst she has already grown the business to its second location, Rachel is looking for ways to spread the word further and allow more dog owners to benefit from these wonderful experiences too.

During the episode, we map out a step-by-step strategy from taking largely untargeted door-to-door flyer dropping and turning it into a list of hyper-responsive ideal customers.
