During graduation you walk across that stage for 5 seconds of recognition for years of hard work. Why? Is that what you get for all that stress, tears, headaches and long nights? Investing in yourself and your FD can bring out that positive change and progression. We work and invest in ourselves to better the department we work for and for the people. That few seconds to walk across that stage with that diploma can echo for years to come!

I’ve talked about changes and how to make them. But are they working? Staying patient on change can be tough but it’s possible that change can happen. Make 2022 a year of change and goal oriented. I’m not expert but I’d love to hear other peoples mind set on what they want to change. It’s all about positive progress and making things better for all.

Have you ever read a LODD report? Well I have read a few recently and it got me thinking what are we doing to prevent these from happening? I talk about preparing you and your crew on air consumption and understanding signs and symptoms of flashover and other fire scene issues. You are responsible for you and your crew and making sure they don’t end up a LODD.

What drives you to be better? What gets you in the mood to lift weights or train? Is it music, a certain song, an article on firefighting or a class? Finding that motivation is important for success in everything we do. So enjoy this episode and find that motivation!!

Talking about structure fires and running a scene with competent people and assigning jobs to complete the task. Knowing how to extinguish, command, and mitigate a fire is crucial for all levels in the FD. Know what you need to do to better yourself in your job and help those under you.

Incompetent leadership is a disease that we need to find a cure for. I will talk about the two different types of incompetent leadership and how to try and improve that relationship with your higher ups. Move away from complacency and understand your job and the one above you. Always work together to complete the task at hand, stay motivated!

I’m talking about a class we conducted this past week and thanking all the instructors that were there. We need more instructors to pass that great info off to the rookies and née personnel. A possible name change and something big maybe coming. Get Motivated FD may have a name change soon with other changes to get the word and training out to even more folks!
