Baldie of the Week: Jamie Hyneman
James Franklin Hyneman (born September 25, 1956) is an American special effects expert who is best known as the former co-host of the television series MythBusters alongside Adam Savage, where he became known for his distinctive beret and walrus moustache. He is also the owner of M5 Industries, the special effects workshop where MythBusters was filmed. He is known among Robot Wars devotees for his robot entry Blendo, which was deemed too dangerous for entry in the competition. He is the inventor of the Sentry, an unmanned firefighting robotic vehicle. He is also one designer of the aerial cable robotic camera system Wavecam used in sports and entertainment events.
Robotics can be a controversial topic. What do you think is amazing about the field? What concerns do you have?

National Celebration/ This Day in History: National Burger Day (August 24)
National Burger Day is held annually in August on the Thursday before the bank holiday weekend. This year, it takes place on August 24. Burgers are convenient fast food and delicious to eat. A burger can be made in a variety of ways and served with different toppings to suit the taste of the one eating it. This is why it’s one of the most liked foods and appreciated and enjoyed by so many. To celebrate this, National Burger Day was created by Mr. Hyde, a daily email service targeted at men that featured lifestyle content.
History
1st Century A.D. - The Burger Makes its First Appearance
The closest thing resembling a burger is first made in the 1st century A.D. in Rome — it is a ground minced meat dish prepared with pine nuts, peppers, and flavorings of wine and garum.
1885 - Beef is Served Between Bread
At the Erie County Fair in Hamburg, New York, the Menches brothers use beef in their sandwiches, creating a burger.
1948 - McDonald’s is Created
The McDonald brothers open a restaurant in California and start making hamburgers.
1954 - McDonald’s’ Biggest Competitor Opens
Burger King is established in Florida and becomes the biggest challenger to McDonald’s.

You shared a couple of quotes: “Intentional days create a life on purpose” - Adrienne Enns and “The key is not to prioritize your schedule, but to schedule your priorities”. How are intention and priorities key to faith development?

Your next move was to Matthew 16:24, “Then Jesus said to his disciples, “Whoever wants to be my disciple must deny themselves and take up their cross and follow me.” How is self-denial key to faith development?

Your focus passage was Acts 2:42. What priorities did the early church have that we can learn from?
Harvest Sermon: Acts 14 - Proclaiming Christ in a Pagan World
David Parrish, history professor at College of the Ozarks, preached and first discussed how in the opening of this passage Paul and Barnabas were finding resistance to the Gospel from the Jews, so they pivot and focus on more pagan areas.

He showed we live in a pagan society, even if it is served up a little differently. He referenced a quote from Carl Trueman, “The task of the Christian is not to whine about the moment in which he or she lives, but to understand its problems and respond appropriately to them.”

He shared four ways Paul and Barnabas interacted with the people in Lystra and Derbe that are worth pondering:
Acts of Mercy (vv. 8-13) - Healing of the lame man. Leads to crowds thinking they are gods.

Spoken Proclamation (vv. 14-18) - Teaches how Yahweh is unique.

Enduring Suffering (vv. 19-22) - Stoned and left for dead, but keeps on going.

Building Communities of Faith (vv. 23-28) - Established leaders through prayer and fasting.
