Some good stories, others not so much

A good compendium of early Clarke stories from the 40s and 50s. Some of them are quite good even when you ignore the fact that they treat atomics as the new technology of the day. But some end rather abruptly without a clear conclusion and you're left wondering what the point of that tale was. Still, I enjoyed it and happy to keep it in my library.

A good read.

Long time admirer of Arthur C. Clark. I have always enjoyed his ability to present science fiction in a clear and enjoyable style. History Lesson gives us brief glimpses of the genius of Clarke. Although some of the tales are more compelling than others, the collection works well. I guess it is time for a re-read of "Childhood's End'.

A fine collection of early Clarke

This collection of early stories shows the seeds that grew into the later work of Arthur Clarke. Nonetheless, many if these stories still stand on their own, sparkling with humor and irony, horror and hope.

Arthur C. Clarke's early works - a worthy collection

Last read some of these a long time ago. Foretells Clarke's style and ingenuity. Worth a look for his uncanny ability to imagine the effects of advancing scientific knowledge on the whole of society. Some of which have already happened.

Some of the best stories by the best UK Science Fiction writer

Arthur C Clarke was the first of the great UK SciFi writers, and for me, remains the best. These short stories showcase his talents. They were written early in his career, but in the main, never bettered. Ranks just after Robert A Heinlein and just before Isaac Azimov in the SciFi Hall of Fame.
