When Gilly is caught stealing bread for her family, she is sentenced to three month at the Fairy Tale Reform School. The school would be a dream place to live it werent for the former villain teachers who may or may not have given up their evil ways. Something sinister, however, is going on at the school. When the royal princesses come to inspect the school and someone tries multiple times to kill the, Gilly wonders if someone is trying to start a war or worse. She enlists the help of her friend, Jax. He, however, is hiding something. Can Gilly save the school and her new friends? Can she trust Jax? Who is trying to sabotage the school?

Narrator, Kristin Condon brings to life Gillys world with her unique intonations and easy to follow voice. Her unique voices bring out the characters personalities and make them easy to relate to. The plot is well developed, engaging, and has lots of plot twists. Kristin navigates the different scene paces and plot twists with ease without losing the reader. Fans of fairy tale retellings, snarky main characters, fantasy, and mystery will enjoy listening to this audiobook.

Thoroughly enjoyed this read

I was pleasantly surprised by this book. It was a really engaging story with loads of creativity. The way the fairy-tales interlock and the themes displayed were fantastic. This book keeps you jumping form start to finish.

It is all from the POV of Jilly, who is a thief but only to help her family. Not exactly a villain in my book, but definitely in need of a little reform. You can feel class distinctions being drawn from the start of the book. Clearly Royals and Commoners are a little at odds.

Jilly is a very clever girl who actually lucks out by being sent to reform school. It takes her out of her life as a potential cobbler and gives her other options. There are lesson to be learned for sure. Add in a side intrigue and the story flows nicely! This isn't a full on adventure read, but it has plenty of action to keep things on target. I can imagine many a tween loving this story!

I listened to the audiobook narrated by Kristin Condon, who does a terrific job with all those voices! The story flows with her voice and energy adding to the authors words. Her pace was just swift enough for a young audience to stay engaged.

I really hope this is the start of a series. It sort of felt that way, so fingers crossed! Great middle grade book I will be recommending to the tweens i work with at the theatre.

Bothe the beginning and end are reminiscent of M.L. Foreman's Adventures Wanted. The body though has enough twists, turns and puzzles to keep the reader thoroughly involved.

Sarah Week's book Pie is one of my FAVORITE kids books. I was slightly disappointed with the serious backstory in this book that is meant for children. Still entertaining but if you are trying to choose between the two don't miss out on PIE!

Gerard Doyle would have been better

Would have preferred Gerard Doyle to read this as he did the last series. He didna better job in my opinion. but the story is great as expected.

Fun listen for Septimus fans, don't expect a wow.

Would you recommend PathFinder to your friends? Why or why not?

If you are a fan of Septimus, this is a fun book to listen to. I would not recommend starting with this series. There are too many characters (some new, most old) and it is difficult to attach affections to any one of them.

What did you like about the performance? What did you dislike?

New narrator for a new series, difficult for a fan of the 1st series and performances. Accents are good, but there is not as much excitement generated.

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

I did not have trouble pausing, but found myself coming back to here about what Septimus was up to.

Great Listen

Very happy to hear another great tale from Angie Sage, and even happier that this new series includes our old friends from the Septimus Heap series. The narrator doesn't really nail the imperious quality of Marcia from the original, but that's a small thing. On to the next book!

Great series!

This whole series is great! Kids (ours are boys 8-13) and parents all love it. The performance fits the story and characters well.

Terrific story, bought the whole series

Rather different than usual storyline, kept my interest throughout. Could hardly wait to see how it all turned out! Great characters.

Wonderfully magical middle grade fantasy!

This is the fourth book in the Magic Thief series. This has been a wonderful middle grade fantasy series that is great for all ages. This book was just as wonderful as the previous books in the series. My whole family enjoyed it a lot.

My whole family listened to this together on audiobook on a road trip back from Yellowstone. This whole series has been incredibly well done on audiobook. The narrator does Conns voice spot on and is excellent at all the other character voices as well. I highly recommend listening to this on audiobook if you listen to audiobooks.

Duchess Rowan wants to promote Conn to ducal magister, however Conn objects. Conn feels that he has other problems to deal with and that sitting in meetings all day wont help. The two magics that were joined in the last book Magic Thief: Found, are fighting each other and wrecking havoc in the city. To makes things even worse magicians locus stones are being stolen and Conn (as the only known person who can touch another magicians locus stone and survive) is being blamed for the thefts.

In a desperate attempt to both fix the magic in the city and uncover the locus stone thief Conn ventures back to his thieving roots in the Twilight where his story started.

As with all of the other books in this series this was a wonderfully fun and magical read. It is even more fun because of the inclusion of Pip, Conns little dragon companion/locus stone.

Conn grows a lot in this book. Rowan is trying to make him ducal magister and give him a lot of responsibility, she believes in him and appreciates his help. Conn knows that he wont be good at the type of position but is struggling to figure what he wants to do to help support the city of Wellmet.

Conn spends a lot of time figuring who he is and who he wants to be; is he a thief, a wizard or something else completely? He spends a lot of time in the Twilight as a thief again in this book and discovers that he just doesnt make a good thief anymore...he is just more than that now. Conn is also learning that accepting help from others and working with others isnt always a bad thing.

The plot is very well done too.
