Excellent mystery for preteens (I suggest ages 8-12). The characters are well developed and nothing too scary happens in these mysteries. If your child likes the characters the series will keep them reading for a good long while (there are many books in the series).
    It was awesome!!!

    Fun Twist
I got this book for my two children (ages 8 & 12), we were able to read through it in an evening. The kids didn't want to stop, so we kept going. We've always enjoyed the boxcar children, but the kids loved this one becuase of the riddles -- they tried to solve the mystery along with the Boxcar kids.

    Boxcar children
I'm in the process of reading the boxcar stories again. Great story but sad ending. Thanks for setting the scene.
Great Background knowledge for the series
After reading the shorter lower level Boxcar children books, Benny and Watch, this was a great transition to begin the chapter book series. However, the story ended sadly and was humbling way to end the story. It did not set the stage to motivate a child to read the next book.
    Same but different
Found this book after really enjoying the first 5 books. Found this a bit disjointed to the other books. Did love the wholesomeness of all these books though. Have really enjoyed reading this series to my own kids.

    Awesome Book
This was an amazing book my daughter loved it she has listened to it more than once since we purchased I have loved listening to it with her
    A good read
Check this book out. The reader does a phenomenal job! He does all the voices.
A Mutiny in Time is addicting
Would you consider the audio edition of A Mutiny in Time to be better than the print version?
Absolutely loved it! The audio version really moves along quickly.
What other book might you compare A Mutiny in Time to and why?
Robert Heinlein wrote a book named Job: A Comedy of Justice that has a similar theme. A Mutiny in Time is an amped up contemporary version that I enjoyed more than Heinlein's book.
Have you listened to any of Dion Grahams other performances before? How does this one compare?
    No, have not
If you were to make a film of this book, what would be the tag line be?
    The kids that saved history.
    Any additional comments?
    Can't wait for the rest.
    Maze Runner this is not
Having enjoyed some of Dashner's other books, not just the Maze Runner Trilogy, I expected an enjoable book. I was disappointed. Dashner seems to have decided to write this book for a younger audience, and include younger characters. Unfortunately, the characters' interactions are much more typical of young people 3 or 4 years older than the supposed age of the characters. This leads to a sort of "disjointed" feel to the book.
The narrator began the reading with a fervor and exaggerated enunciations and emotions that were very distracting, although eventually he seemed to settle down.
The only good thing about this book was the plot idea, which was new to me. However when I described it to my spouse, she exclaimed, "That sounds exactly like (name of different book." So it appears Dashner's plot idea wasn't particularly unique either.

Ratings: 4.5 of 5 out of 28 votes

    Publisher's Summary:
Newbery Medalist Russell Freedmans thrilling account of a daring young French nobleman who helped bring victory at Yorktown and who became a lifelong friend of President Washington will fascinate young historians.
When the Marquis de Lafayette ran off to join the American Revolution against the explicit orders of the king of France, he was a strong-willed 19-year-old who had never set foot on a battlefield. Although the U.S. Congress granted him an honorary commission only out of respect for his title and wealth, Lafayette quickly earned the respect of his fellow officers with his bravery, devotion to the cause of liberty, and incredible drive. Playing a pivotal role in the Revolution, Lafayette convinced the French government to send troops, made crucial pacts with Native Americans, and led his men to victory at Yorktown.

    Rediscovered a Hero
Listened to this with my history loving 9 year old. Mr. Freedman and the narrator, Luis Moreno, made the story of Gilbert du Motier, Marquis de Lafayette entertaining, educational, and compelling! Sadly this Hero of Two Countries seems forgotten in France and the United States. Thankfully, we rediscovered Lafayette through this wonderful audiobook.
    AUDIBLE 20 REVIEW SWEEPSTAKES ENTRY
    Short, but very sweet!
A simple and chronological telling of Lafayette's life story. True to the times and well read, I thoroughly enjoyed this audible book. I plan to seek a more detailed account to satisfy my urge for detail. I highly recommend this book as your introduction to General Lafayette and his passion for liberty and love of America!

    Critic Reviews:
"Amusing and touching, poking gentle fun at human foibles, this lively story of another day should please readers on any age level." (Chicago Tribune)
    Members Reviews:
    Hilarious family favorite
My three children (15, 12, and 9) and I listen to lots of audiobooks, and this book and its prequel have been two of our hands-down favorites. We all laugh out loud, even after multiple listenings. We'd love to see more of the books in the Great Brain series become available as audiobooks!!
An outstanding review of an American classic!
Where does More Adventures of the Great Brain rank among all the audiobooks youve listened to so far?
My favorite fiction audio book, just beating out it's predecessor "The Great Brain". Most of the audio books that I listen to are non-fiction, but I do not think it a fair comparison between fiction and non-fiction.
What other book might you compare More Adventures of the Great Brain to and why?
    The Great Brain
What does Ron McLarty bring to the story that you wouldnt experience if you just read the book?
He vocalizes the characters in a way that brings you into the story... even when he is the 'narrator', he has it similar enough to JD (the character that is telling the story of the Great Brain), but distinct enough to make it clear that he is acting as the narrator.
Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?
The Great Brain series were the books that I used to practice my reading on... it was my favorite series growing up, so much of my reaction to the book was sentimental and very pleased at how the narrator captured the story and characters so well.
    Any additional comments?
I really hope that the rest of the Great Brain series will be made available at Audible... preferably with the same narrator.
    Setting a bad example
Tom is swindling everyone, which kids aren't aloud to do
So my children are swindling everyone we know! So stop writing these
    Audio books.

    Disappointed
Would you listen to The Dead of Night again? Why?
Only to jog my memory for the next installment.
What was the most interesting aspect of this story? The least interesting?
One of the most interesting was the interactions with the Vespers. The story was so terribly short. Alot less detail.
Which character as performed by David Pittu was your favorite?
The character of Atticus was my favorite.
Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?
This was a book I wanted to listen to in one sitting, and did.
    Any additional comments?
This series has been very entertaining until this one. It was a really short story compared to the others in this series.
    Fun stuff!
Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?
This book is good for learning Geography - I keep hearing about places and end up looking them up on Google Earth.
What did you like best about this story?
Solid story, well laid out. There were times when I said to myself, "Really?" because the kids do a few things that are dumb that make the story a bit more predictable. However, the backstory with the Dad is great.
What about David Pittus performance did you like?
David Pittu is one of the best. The voices are very distinctive, and easy to listen to. Also, the production is top notch. Some audiobooks have obvious cuts and pops, and the sound quality can be rough, but not so with this company. The clarity and even the music are both perfect for this reading.
Another fun entry in the seires
Would you recommend The Dead of Night to your friends? Why or why not?
Would recommend the whole series to any child or family.
What does David Pittu bring to the story that you wouldnt experience if you just read the book?
    Great voices for the characters.
    Any additional comments?
    Get the whole series.
Just right for my 9 y.o.
Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?
If your kids enjoyed other books from "The 39 Clues" series, they want be disappointed. To me this series is like a pack of vitamin candies - kids love them, you know there is not much nutritional value in them, but you yield once in a while (in this case "vitamins" are some geography and history).
I can't wait for the next book
Where does The Dead of Night rank among all the audiobooks youve listened to so far?
It's one that your mind runs with what can happen in the next book. This series is rated in my best categories section.
What did you like best about this story?
The different author and what they bring to the story.
