    Publisher's Summary:
In the fourth book of the multi-author Sundering series launched by New York Times bestselling author R.A. Salvatore, Richard Lee Byers introduces Anton Marivaldi - a renowned reaver with an insatiable thirst for bounty and a moral compass that always leads him toward the evil he's never tried. Endless, pounding rain afflict the Sea of Fallen Stars and the coastal regions surrounding it. Harvests are failing, travel and trade are disrupted, and civilized forces are giving way to the deluges caused by the storms. In panic and despair, many have turned to the goddess Umberlee, Queen of the Deeps, offering her sacrifices with hope that they will be spared the inevitable reckoning of her perpetual tempest. Evendur Highcastle, undead pirate captain, risen from the depths to assume the mantle of Umberlee's Chosen, takes advantage of the people's desperation to strike for both spiritual and temporal power in her name. Vying with Highcastle for the hearts and minds of the people is Stedd Whitehorn, a little boy and the chosen of a god thought lost to time: Lathander, the Morninglord. In a time of such upheaval, Stedds message of renewal and hope runs in stark contrast to the savage ethos of Highcastle and his waveservants. When Anton captures the boy in order to collect Highcastle's considerable bounty, the reaver is quickly caught in the riptide caused by the sundering of worlds.

    Good story bad delivery
Anton the pirate at first appears to be a villain out for profit and Umara the red wizard just a minion to her evil masters, This is a tale of finding redemption and doing what is right. Their transformation seems to happen too quickly and could have benefited from a longer development and more details but still believable and makes for an interesting story. Only issues was the narrator whose voice does not lend any sense of high adventure or epic happenings.
Wanted this to be great book, I may never know
What disappointed you about The Reaver?
The performance was a 1 on scale of one to 10. Where a 10 is movies for the mind and a 1 is "oh God my ears are bleeding"
If youve listened to books by Richard Lee Byers before, how does this one compare?
I was too distracted by the performance. Richard, pay to have this one re-recorded.
How could the performance have been better?
Vocal Quality - Awesome; Pronunciation - Good; Enunciation - Good; Punctuation - yes that a word and it means something.. Thank God the Eugene had to breath or there would be an endless stream of unbroken words.
What reaction did this book spark in you? Anger, sadness, disappointment?
I just got screwed out of my coin on this one.
    Any additional comments?
Contact a professional vocal actor, and start over.. I was eager to get back to the series, eager to escape into a fantasy world of fractious gods, powerful villains, and hero's that overcome insurmountable odds. I just could not get past the performance. I sat on a plane through 3 chapters, I had to stop listening was just too painful!
    "Forecastle"
It's pronounced fksl. Great story, but the reading was low-effort. Maybe have a sailor consult on a reading of a story about sailors.
    Putting it together
Great listen as far as story goes.

    Interesting...
Sidebar: FYI: This review is done from a serious Nightwalker Series fan...
    Now review:
Very good continuation of the story so far...
We even get some cameo names or rather hints at possible crossover into the Nightwalker Series... (Gideon, Noah and Damien are somewhat mentioned) I so hope the World of Nightwalkers Series goes in that direction...because I am just not loving this series...
I like it, I think it is good... I mean it's Frank and Sands! You really can't go wrong with this author/narrator duo... but.... the Nightwalker series... was just way way better.. and it was left unfinished, as Elana and Gideon's son never came into his power (child of space).
Anyway... Forsaken picks up right after Forever... this time it's Leo, Docia and Jackson's pseudo brother...
So... he was captured and tortured in most of Forever, now he is saved...but still pretty pissed about well everything that took place in Forever. A night angel (new creature for the nightwalker realm) comes crashing in to save the day, just as the guy/gurl bad guy (the male demon god who took over the bad female bodywalker templar in Forever) to seriously lay a hurting on Jackson. Leo and the new night angel have to go and bring back someone to help Jackson.
Now... I liked the book...as I said before Frank and Sands is simply great... I think however, because I enjoyed the Nightwalker Series so much, and this is called the "World of Nightwalkers," I am just expecting so much more out of this series...
The action is definitely there... but the romance... it is either too quick with not enough story to make the relationship plausible (this book), it takes to long to get there (1st book: Forbidden) or this back and forth angsty-ness is annoying (2nd book: Forever).
See what I mean... my standards for Frank is just way to high maybe... Jacob ( book 1 from the Nightwalker Series) is still way up there as one of the number one paranormal romance books of all time... It has that basic romance setup (boy meets girl/ boy saves girl/ drama/ boy can't have girl/ more drama/boy takes girl anyway/ best drama and action/ boy and girl become inseparable/ HEA).
Although, for serious Frank fans, or Nightwalker fans... you will be left feeling like it just wasn't enough... you are still satisfied, because this book only adds to the Nightwalker world that Frank continues to add too.
It is well worth the purchase, a good credit, buy or sale... Just remember...

    Members Reviews:
    Well Done
I read this book a few years ago. I just started listening to audio books. This book was done well. I hope Mr. Crane finishes the Sanctuary Series; although, he is not completing the "In the box" series.
    Betrayal
What did you like most about Avenger?
Everything. I am an unashamed fan of all of Crane's series and although this is his first series, it is the last I started reading, hence a review years after first publication. I am already knee-deep into 'Champion' and wondering what lies ahead for poor Cyrus.
If you enjoy reading series in this genre, I would definitely recommend the Sanctuary series and strongly advise that you read it in order of publication so as not to miss out on any of the adventures or back story.
What was one of the most memorable moments of Avenger?
The trials in Purgatory were really imaginative and testing
What about Wayne Thompsons performance did you like?
The narrator, I think, made this an even better experience, really capturing the characters with consistency. I was really sorry to see that the rest of the Sanctuary series is not available
Did you have an emotional reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?
Avenger shows an author who has grown in experience and confidence, his characters are more rounded and the dialogue more flowing. He has created convincing characters - the good guys goodish; the bad guys, well some über-evil at times - and injected a healthy dose of humour into this book. I had, at times, roared with laughter or grunted in indignation and, in a moment of pure frustration, even shouted at Vara. The characters are, mostly, likeable and the newer applicants and members, notably Aisling and Fortin, bring some moments of humour to an otherwise difficult time for those at Sanctuary whose very honour and lives are on the line.
    Any additional comments?
I sometimes wonder how many people REALLY read and put stock in prologues - and epilogues, for that matter. I, for one, am finding myself intrigued by these opening and closing chapters of the Sanctuary series and have started to read them back to back, hoping to solve the mystery before it is given to me in the last book of the series.
By the second to last chapter of Defender - first in the Sanctuary series - I was certain I would detest Vara forever. Her arrogance and, at times, childishly demeaning comments are at such odds with the rest of the 'good guys' that I wonder why she is tolerated where she clearly feels more superior. Not that it would stop my reading of the series, but she's really irritated me, always finding the most negative things to say to Cy - one of my favourite flawed heroes of all time.

2nd better than 1st and now downloading 3rd!!!
Elseerian's develops even more in this 2nd book of the series. He is a very unlikely hero of this series, never wants to draw attention to himself and is now beginning to acknowledge he may have feelings for a fellow fighter. Ben Hale takes this story in a direction that gets the entire World ready for battle against a Very Evil Army threatening the extinction of all races. I personally LOVE the character Jack (a thief, but VERY needed in this fight) I love how Ben developed the "General" of the Army and how he comes to earn all of the races respect despite his age...and OH my, the Phoenix, is AMAZING=I am in love with this series-next to Kendall Grey's "Just Breathe" UF series and Kevin Hearne's "Iron Druid" UF series - I have my top 3 UF series NOW!!!
Warning though: I never like it when a main character is loss in any book and one of Fav's does loose his life - and I did cry....
Listening to this book was like sitting down and watching a really good movie, thank you, Ben!!!
    Cliffhanger but excellent
Normally I don't like cliffhangers, however I realized that Hale literally told the story of the Gathering. And it is an excellent story. Keep in mind that this is a middle novel of a trilogy. Overall I love this book and can't wait to read the conclusion to this phenomenal trilogy.

His search for his parentage leads him to the Starlands, where reality and fantasy have changed places. Forget the mattock; dig in with a teaspoon
Not having read Duncan before, I did not know what to expect, only that the book was recommended to me by audible based on my other reads.
One good thing about this book is that it includes all the trappings of heroic fantasy. Orphaned hero seeking his parentage, living on the edge of society because he's just a bit different, gets whisked off to a magical land where he discovers he has some special amulet which makes him extremely powerful, but also comes with its own enemies and perils. And then you throw in all the things that are supposed to be in a fantasy novels, centaurs, minotaurs, harpies, elves, sphinxes. Notably lacking: a bearded dwarf that spoke with a Scottish brogue.
Unfortunately, because of this, it seemed like a novel built from stock parts.
It is a quick fantasy read that will not challenge the reader. It moves along fast enough and doesn't bog down. It is OK so long as you don't try to dig too deep.
Another good thing about this book is the reading. Podehl does yeoman's work deepening characters that Duncan wrote pretty flat. He deserves quite a bit of credit for raising this book up in my estimation.
    Now about those characters...
This is one piece where the book really fails. The characters are almost all one dimensional, many wouldn't even have that if it weren't for Podehl's reading. The evil megalomaniac is a bad guy, because he's a bad guy. His evil henchman performs odious acts, because that is what you do when you're an evil henchman. The main character acts heroically. Why? To impress a girl. That's new. The reader just can't identify with what is essentially a cast of cardboard cutouts.
I would not recommend this to anyone except maybe the convinced Duncan fan who knows exactly what he or she is getting into.
    Surprisingly good!
I picked up this book without a lot of hope but was a little bored. Next thing I know I was sucked in! There are truly many twists that you do not see coming, and from a huge reader that is hard to do to me!
The book does a great job of making you feel for the lead, while also filling out the other players in the story very well.

Not what I was hoping for
What did you like best about Elseerian? What did you like least?
I enjoy a story that includes plot twist, character flaws, and a bit of angst, but I still want it to be fiction so that I can escape. This story was too straight forward. The characters were all too perfect and fixed in their stereotype. If there was a challenge, that challenge would be solved before the next one came up, I enjoy a challenge within a challenge and got none of that in this story.
The fight scenes were very well done and the author painted a good picture of this world and the story had promise, but it just fell flat for me.
Has Elseerian turned you off from other books in this genre?
No, for the most part this is my favorite genre.
    Adolescent novel?
Would you try another book from Ben Hale and/or Derek Perkins?
Ben Hale no but possibly Derek Perkins.
Would you ever listen to anything by Ben Hale again?
    Nope.
    Any additional comments?
M-McCormick hit the nail on the head with that review. I got sucked into this based off the description and the fact it was a recommended listen. Wish I had never wasted a credit on it because I don't think I can even finish it. There needs to be some sort of age appropriate label on these books because this is clearly an adolescent novel. The Godling Chronicles is a similar read in its target audience but you would never know by the description. Anyone who compares this series to others such as LOTR or GOT is off their rocker.
    BEWARE the 5-Star Ratings!!!
What could have made this a 4 or 5-star listening experience for you?
I have seen many 5 star ratings raving about what a wonderful book this is. I was sucked in and have now experienced one of the worst fantasy novels of all time. This is NOTHING like ".... Wheel of Time Series, Wizards First Rule, George R.R. Martin, The Warded Man, The Name of the Wind..." that the number one reviewer Andrew Stone mentions. I have read all of those titles (I expect when he wrote George R.R. Martin he was referring to The Game of Thrones). Every one of those books is a great read and I would recommend them without hesitation. How anyone could compare this book to those is beyond me.
Another 5 star rater, Tim, in Lowell, IN compares Hale's fight scenes to those of Joe Abercrombie. Unbelievable! Hale's fight scenes were excruciating (see below for why). The quality of Abercrombie's (The First Law Trilogy, Best Served Cold, Red Country,..

    Publisher's Summary:
Ethan Kaille isn't the likeliest hero. A former sailor with a troubled past, Ethan is a thieftaker, using conjuring skills to hunt down those who steal from the good citizens of Boston. And while chasing down miscreants in 1768 makes his life a perilous one, the simmering political tensions between loyalists like himself and rabble-rousing revolutionaries like Samuel Adams and others of his ilk are perhaps even more dangerous to his health.
When 100 sailors of King George III's Royal Navy are mysteriously killed on a ship in Boston Harbor, Ethan is thrust into dire peril. For he - and not Boston's premier thieftaker, Sephira Pryce - is asked to find the truth behind their deaths. City Sheriff Edmund Greenleaf suspects conjuring was used in the dastardly crime, and even Pryce knows that Ethan is better equipped to contend with matters of what most of Boston considers dark arts. But even Ethan is daunted by magic powerful enough to fell so many in a single stroke. When he starts to investigate, he realizes that the mass murderer will stop at nothing to evade capture. And making his task more difficult is the British fleet's occupation of the city after the colonials' violent protests after the seizure of John Hancock's ship. Kaille will need all his own magic, street smarts, and a bit of luck to keep this Boston massacre from giving the hotheads of Colonial Boston an excuse for inciting a riot - or worse.
Thieves' Quarry is a stunning second novel in D. B. Jackson's Thieftaker Chronicles.

    Another great story
A strong narrator and a well written story equals another 5 star rated book, which is not something I do frequently.
Returning to the streets of Olde Towne
If you could sum up Thieves' Quarry in three words, what would they be?
    Historical magical PI
What did you like best about this story?
He is more committed to his lady. He is growing more aware of the things he could do and should not do. He is learning that mouthing the "right" words will not keep him out of the fray. He is growing into the the perils of the city instead of skimming over them.
What about Jonathan Daviss performance did you like?
He has become the Theiftaker in my ears.
Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?
When he hauls Canice upstairs in front of her clientele to talk to her and gets cheered because they all think he is being amorous. He blushes so nicely. And Canice takes it with amusement.
    Any additional comments?
    I highly dislike his sister.
If Dresden were an Historical read
The British military have landed an occupying force in the colonies and Ethan Kaille, Thieftaker, has been called to a British ship. What he finds there nearly stops his heart. The crew, down to the last man, is dead, not a mark upon them. Kaille confirms that they have died at the hands of a conjurer - and he is the Crown's favorite suspect.
A murder mystery set against the turmoil of pre-revolutionary Boston, Ethan Kaille is once again up against a powerful conjurer and it will be his wits, not his spellwork, that saves him. Meanwhile, his nemesis, Saphira Pryce, has obtained her own conjurer, his family have decided he can be of use, and the conjurers of Boston are keeping Kaille at arms' length. It's one heck of a ride.

    Publisher's Summary:
As it began, so shall it end - in magic, mystery, and majesty... Magician's End
Thirty years ago, Raymond E. Feist wrote his first novel, Magician, a story about an orphan boy named Pug who is thrust by a war into captivity in an alien world, only to rise from slavery to become a Master Magician. Magician introduced readers to Midkemia and the Riftwars, an epic series of battles between Good and Evil that have scarred this remarkable realm for generations. Now, after 29 books (authored and coauthored), Feist delivers the crowning achievement of his renowned best-selling career: Magician's End, the final chapter of the Chaoswar Saga and the climax of his extraordinary Riftwar Cycle.
An uneasy quiet has settled upon Midkemia in the wake of a surprise invasion. But the land is far from peaceful. Leaderless, the Kingdom is on the brink of anarchy and civil war, unless Hal conDoin, Duke of Crydee, and his brothers can rally their allies to crown a new king. They must move quickly, for war has left the land vulnerable to an agency of horrific destruction not of this world. No one is safe, not even the Star Elves whose city deep in the Grey Tower Mountains has come under attack by an ancient darkness that seeks to extinguish every living thing in Midkemia.
Yet the bravery of determined warriors - brothers in blood and arms - is not enough to ensure the Kingdom's preservation without the magic of the Master Sorcerer Pug. A powerful spell has trapped him, his son Magnus, and two unlikely allies in an unfamiliar realm, and they must find their separate ways home - a journey of memory and discovery that will illuminate the truth of the destiny that awaits them. But to save Midkemia - and everything he has fought for and all he cherishes - Pug will have to pay the ultimate price.
A breathtaking tale of elves and men, love and hate, ambition and sacrifice, intrigue and brotherhood, war and peace, Magician's End brilliantly captures the essence of life and the eternal struggle for survival. It is an extraordinary ending to the magnificent saga that has made award-winning Raymond E. Feist a legend.

great book. I wish the rest of the books would be on audible! lets hope they get on that
    Not exactly a review, but
It's With Equal parts sorrow and happiness I finished the Magician's End. I loved how it all ended, but I am truly sorry to say good bye to all the characters I have followed for so many years. All left to say is; Good job, Mr Feist, good job!
    reading felt rushed and boring
seemed like the narrator was just reading the words not telling the story. made it very boring. I could not even make it through the first chapter and decided to just buy the book and read it myself.
    It finishes
Having started off with the series when I was 16, it was a good finish. The storyline is great, sadly while the narrator is good he wasn't matched for the characters I thought.
    an epic ending
I won't put any spoilers in here, but this epic story brings a long story to an end in a way that only a master storyteller could. it brings sadness that this will be the last book.

Team each ask him to train some talented, young magicians in "practical magic" he has to agree. But after the assassins attack and a manticore tries to eat them, the Khlad mage soon discovers that there is more going on than learning. His students are preparing for a very deadly magical game and you won't believe where. Worse yet, the game may be fixed, and the only way to save his students lives is for Skeeve to risk his own.

    Master Skeeve
Skeeve reluctantly takes on six apprentices. Skeeve continues to have integrity, and he tries to instill this in his students. Of course class does not always go smoothly, and they get into one humorous predicament after another. The six apprentices learn to work together, and this proves to be their greatest newly acquired skill. The narrator is spot on once again.
    Mythed the Mark
From the start of this series, Asprin had done an excellent job of storytelling and of keeping the reader in doubt as to the final outcome and direction that the end would take. Unfortunately, while I applaud Nye's carrying on of the series, she needs to develop the story a little better, and not make it obvious half way through the book what was going to happen.
The narration was for the most part fine, but I had a serious issue with the "female" voices. In fact, the first time I heard Bunny speak, I about drove off the road in total disappointment!
While I don't really like it when there are two different narators to a book (see Wheel of Time), in this case it would have been a massive upgrade to the overall enjoyment of the book. The publisher did do a very good job of blending together "joint" themes and statements by the characters when speaking in unison. If a little more effort was given to the female voice role, I would have probably rated its performance as 5 stars rather then 4. But I just couldn't take Bunny, Markie, or Tananada's voices at all.
    Classic MYTH really!
Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?
Crazy hijinks, fast action, LOL moments and a host of old and new characters. This story was very true to the MYTH universe from beginning to the end. The first two collaborations felt padded and lost pacing at those points. Sit back and enjoy the fun.
Which character as performed by Noah Michael Levine Noah Michael was your favorite?
Listen close when the group of students answer a question (or sing) all at the same time. The voice acting and sound engineering produce some of the most unexpected hilarious moments.
Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?
I listen to most of my books in the car. Going to or from somewhere. Some books, (like this one !) make me pull it up on my computer so I don't miss out on the action. These types of books are treasures that will let you lose yourself in the author's universe.
    Loved this book
This was one of the best books I have ever read it was so original!
    Not their best work.
Cute story but became quite predictable. I seen the ending coming a mile away. Loved the way the stories use to keep you guessing

    Repetitive
It's the same repetitive narrative over and over. The same discussion between Tarl and the slaves, same nauseating use of adjectives.
