Get Psyched

What does the process of getting help for your mental health look like? Whether that helps comes from friends or family or is professional help, is there a standard way? In listening to Lis, Ella, Sharna and Luke we learn that it's different for everyone; for some it’s smooth sailing, for others they learnt techniques that made it less scary or less awkward. Plus, each of them learned what self-care means for them and tell us what they do now to keep on top of their mental health. The clinicians take us through some of those common steps that young people and their supporters might go through on that path to help and we start to think about the many different ways we can Martin good mental health and can be good helpers or support people into professional health.

We don’t often hear what that time is like when you’re starting to suspect that something’s not quite right with your mental health.In this episode of Get Psyched Sharna, Ella, Luke and Lis describe that time in their lives, how they felt, what they did, and importantly what they learned. Which is what the clinicians focus on too; the learning. Learning about yourself and the signs you might notice when things aren’t great; learning what sorts of tools we can put in our tool box of life to help us through those tough times; and learning some strategies and early intervention techniques that might be helpful in supporting someone else.

It can feel like there is judgement everywhere; inside and outside of our heads. Ever feel like you can’t turn your brain off?Or maybe you want to understand why someone in your life seems to ‘over-think’?
