Guilt is a universal experience. It can incapacitate you, just like the character Elizabeth. Guilt can make you feel that there’s no hope of anything being different so you accept the way things are. This study of Painted Window is an allegory, written a lot like any fictional novel. However, the storyline and the characters represent more than their fictional representations.
