Title: J M Barrie: The Short Stories
    Author: J M Barrie
    Narrator: Richard Mitchley
    Format: Unabridged
Length: 2 hrs and 28 mins
    Language: English
    Release date: 04-14-12
    Publisher: The Copyright Group
Ratings: 5 of 5 out of 2 votes
    Genres: Classics, British Literature
    Publisher's Summary:
Peter Pan is a classic story. The Admirable Crichton is a classic play. And here, in this volume, are two classic short stories. They are certainly of their day and perfect pieces of their craft. And really thats not surprising, for JM Barrie was a writer of great note.
Short stories are often overlooked as being the poor, under-developed relatives of greater works. But from writers of the calibre of Barrie, this is just not so. He creates stories and characters that drive, meld, and develop into narratives that in their numerically shorter length are, in fact, the perfect length.

    The worst narrator ever
What could have made this a 4 or 5-star listening experience for you?
The reader was absolutely one of the worst readers ever. It was personality negative 50. Oscar is a funny writer and Deaver missed all the humor. He made great stories miserable to listen to.
How did the narrator detract from the book?
He was completely out of sync with the writing as well as totally boring.

    Publisher's Summary:
A story that has a version of Uriah Heap, a story within a story, touching on the themes of death and deliverance, anger and revenge. This is a classic short story well worth introducing to young listeners to before they embark on the longer voyage of Dickens' novels. Dickens employs wonderful character names here, such as Mr. Heap and here Mr. Slinkton. Cathartic and uplifting. (American accent narration.)
    Members Reviews:
    Really don't enjoy this narrator
The pace of narration is all over the place. Stumbling and halting, the rapid and garbled. Not good at all
    Disappointing narration
What disappointed you about Hunted Down?
Dickens is about characterization. This particular narrator didn't pull it off. Plus, the quality of the recording was really poor. It made the story hard to listen to and impossible to enjoy.
Would you be willing to try another one of Deaver Browns performances?
    Nope.

    Publisher's Summary:
While staying at a friends house in an apparently humdrum London suburb, the sceptical Hugh Grainger sees and then converses with an unsettling stranger from his bedroom window in the very dead of night. But what could be the meaning of this curious visitation? Hold very tight, please! E. F. Benson is well known for his Mapp and Lucia novels but his ghost and supernatural stories are marvellous jewels, combining elegant writing and moments of blood-curdling horror. Here Greg Wagland narrates one of the best of them, for Magpie Audio.

    An 1800's Style
Where does The Bus-Conductor: An E.F. Benson Ghost Story rank among all the audiobooks youve listened to so far?
The story keeps you interested from the beginning and makes you think about the paralells of dreaming and death.
What other book might you compare The Bus-Conductor: An E.F. Benson Ghost Story to and why?
The King In Yellow - Robert W. Chambers
Has similarities to The Yellow Sign, where a young man and woman share nightmares about hearses and a mysterious man watching them.
Have you listened to any of Greg Waglands other performances before? How does this one compare?
Yes. A Christmas Carol. Much different, of course.
If you could take any character from The Bus-Conductor: An E.F. Benson Ghost Story out to dinner, who would it be and why?
The one who experienced the death dream. I would want to know his thoughts about the afterlife and how sleep appears to bring us a sample of it. Realy trippy stuff, lol!
    Any additional comments?
    I love classic ghost stories.
    Creepy Excellences
This is a well read short story of a friend recalling an eerie account of creepy premonition he had whilst staying at the mans house the previous summer and of which he is only now capable of talking about. Greg Wagland gives a good performance.
Nothing frightening, but makes you realise we all experience premonitions of some kind throughout our lives, some of us more aware of them than others.

    Members Reviews:
Nice Stories - Shame about the Voice!
Good stories but the narrator's voice is incredibly annoying. She enuciates every last syllable and it really starts your teeth grinding after a short while. Such a shame to waste good stories with vocal mannerisms - when will the producer's learn?! The only way I would listen to this collection of stories again is if they re-recorded it with a new performer.
    Don't bother!
Such a shame the narration is awful - the read tries to put on a scary voice and succeeds only in making this impossible to listen to!
