David Herbert Richards Lawrence (1885-1930) was one of England's greatest novelists, poets, playwrights, and writers of short stories. His works often explored emotional health, vitality, spontaneity and instinct.
"The Lovely Lady" is a short story which tells of an unnervingly dysfunctional family, including the elderly mother and an aunt, the lovely lady who looks much younger than her 72 years. Her son, Robert, and niece, Ciss, are dominated by the charming but manipulative old lady.
But one day Ciss discovers her aunt's terrible secret...and soon after this, Ciss commits an act which changes everything in the household...and changes her aunt beyond recognition.

I'd pass on this one...
The Kindle version that I downloaded is very strange. There is a space after every two lines which makes it awkward to read and every few pages there is a picture depicting American Indians on horseback hunting buffalo... which has nothing to do with 1920's England. And so far I find the story to be very odd too. I wish I could get my .99 cents back.
Abridged and therefor useless for me
I did not realize that this is an ABRIDGED adaptation rather the entire novel when I ordered it. My bad, but really why would anyone want to skip so much of Lawrence's novel? The woman reading is just fine, but it's impossible to follow along with the book, and I finally gave up when I realized I had to stop the recording and read the book.
Good
A story as old as time. I enjoyed it at would recommend it to other readers who enjoy classic love stories.
Excellent inexpensive version for Kindle
I'm not reviewing Lady Chatterley's Lover - it's a classic and has been reviewed by those who are far more literary and articulate than I am. I'm primarily reading it because it is a classic yet was banned for so many years.
What I'm reviewing is this particular Kindle edition:
For only .99, I was a little apprehensive regarding what I would get for my money. I've seen other free/inexpensive e-books that were full of typos and were very difficult to read. I haven't gotten very far into this book. (What page am I on? I don't know! But this is because I'm reading it on an iPod using the Kindle app, not on an actual Kindle.) But so far it is typo-free. I don't know how I got so lucky to pick this particular version!
