Filled with Hilariosity and Vair Vair Amusant

I am a 28 year old woman who never, ever misses a Georgia Nicholson book. Tho I reside in Hamburger-a-gogo, I have always enjoyed British humor and Louise Rennison's Georgia Nicholson series is top notch. Told in a diary format, from the pov of a 15(?) year old-girl, this is truly a timeless story/series that will appeal to women and girls of all ages. From the first book, Angus, Thongs and Full-Frontal Snogging, we are introduced to a feisty heroine who is trying to cope with school, boys and her changing body. From then to now, Georgia has entertained me with her "brit-speak", her musings on her crazy family and her school life. Reading said musings often have me laughing out loud--i mean loud, raucous laughter that makes people look at me strangely. This series is perfect for teenage girls or anyone who wants to remember their teenage years! The only negative is that the books are generally short(ish), and there are long waits in between books, which means I have to go without my Georgia fix. I am thrilled that this book was offered through Audibles and hopefully others in the series are forthcoming.

Great

Georgia is my hero! I orginally purchased this series for my neice, now I listen to them as well. We both love her story!

Mistake on my part

I think I got confused ordering this, not realizing it was a series and this one was several into it. However I did find the narrator a little grating for the short I listened to it.

3 Wedding Date Stars

Not like the movie...AT ALL..

I loved the movie so much I have watched it more times than I care to say without looking like a crazy person.

so when I had a few hours to kill I thought I would grab this book. It was not anything like I was expecting.

It's an OK book not one I would've seek out on my own. Not really memorable if I'm being honest.

it was just a good book to pass the time and that's OK not every book is going to be heart stopping or jaw-dropping right?

Sit-com

The plot is about as engaging as a B- grade movie or a 30 minute sitcom comedy. The romance is at a high-school level, but the characters are adults, ostensibly.

Wow was this boring...

Would you try another book from Elizabeth Young and/or Jasmine Hyde?

Jasmine Hyde was the best part about this book. I actually really like her narration. I won't read anything from Elizabeth Young ever again. I don't even know how or why she was published.

What was most disappointing about Elizabeth Youngs story?

That it was NOTHING like the movie. I have no idea why they even have a picture of the movie on the front cover.

What about Jasmine Hydes performance did you like?

Lovely voice and good reading.

If you could play editor, what scene or scenes would you have cut from The Wedding Date?

All of it and make a totally new story... Which is what the movie editor must have done.

Don't listen or read this if you have any hope of it being anything like the movie. I have the book too and couldn't get through it. Now I know why.

Probably Better as an Audiobook then in Print

If I had picked this book up in print form, I probably would never have finished reading it. The main character, Ivy, is rather unappealing and the story is filled with lots of improbable happenings. However, it worked well as an audiobook and I enjoyed listening to it while working out on the treadmill at the gym. It had humorous moments with some interesting characters. The main problem with the audio was the narrator's voice, which was rather high pitched and whiny.

Painfully shallow

I was expecting a fun bit of fluff based on the reviews. Instead, this book was a series of negative gender and racial stereotypes. The main character lies and manipulates her way through her life. She mocks her good friend's physical shortcomings, and goes on about other hating other women's perfect bodies. She worries about being pretty and skinny, and likes having a strong man around. Every character is evaluated by their income and possessions. The story moves briskly along, but its one nails dragging across the chalkboard moment after another. She doesn't really learn, as much as she is finally backed into a corner. A nice corner. I can see how this might have been funny if she was balls out evil, but we seem to be supposed to believe, as she and her friends do, that she is actually a nice person inside. Yech! 12 hours of this was way too much!

Not Very Good

I wanted to like this book. But, I was offended by the author's unexamined contention that qualified wealthy White children were being kept out of elite private schools by less qualified minority children. She doesn't come right out and say that the minority children are less qualified. But Ivy and her friends clearly see the efforts to create ethnic diversity in predominately White elite private schools as problematic. She even goes so far as to have Ivy encourage a White child to impersonate as Black in order to gain admittance to a prestigious school. Apparently this was supposed to be light and entertaining. It wasn't. The whiny, self-consumed attitude of the main character was also highly annoying. The Nanny Diaries are MUCH better.

Despicable characters

Ugh. The main character's primary tool when faced with a challenge is to lie. Whenever the story came to a point where the character should show some ethics, she doesn't. It makes me wonder what the author is like in real life. The books sets the stage early on, drawing a character who is unethical and unsympathetic. I figured it would end in triumph with her having a miraculous transformation. Nope.

Wonderfully performed...

My husband and I both enjoyed this audio book very much. All of the characters are funny and wonderfully performed. A light, heart warming tale of love and loss and patience. V&T

Really really wonderful! This is a must listen.

I don't usually write reviews, but i just couldn't believe that there were bad reviews about this book. It is definitely one of the BEST audiobooks I have ever listened to, and I actually use it to convert non - audiobook people with great success! I have recommended it to at least 10 different women and they all had one comment - "I couldn't stop laughing!!" Rosie is a wonderful character who is easy to love and root for, and the narrator did a great job with the accents and the emotion behind the words.

If you have a sense of humor, are a romantic, and like a girl with a little spunk.. Give this one a try - you won't regret it!

Great storyline

I didn't realize that this was the abridged version with different narrators. the story is awesome, but the abridged version is lacking and the original narrator was much better.

Easy Listen, Entertaining, Good Characters

The narration was great - different narrators for men and women and appropriate accents, best narration work I've heard.

Highly recommend for easy listening - it's a good, fun storyline and the characters will hook you. It was a bit frustrating at times between Rosie and Alex but stayed true to their characters.

Cute Book, Bad Narrator

I enjoyed everything about this book except for Christina Ricci's monotoned narration. Not only did she seem as if she did not want to be reading this book, but as if she was totally bored as well. Very poorly done. I was annoyed with her the whole time.

the voices get annoying sometimes

I like the story and Cristina Riccis voice actually, but sometimes (when she is playing Serena, her voice is unbearable, which is a bit sad, I like Serena, but it is almost as if it was narrated so that you would hate her)

pure chic-lit!

Pure chic-lit! Extremely girly! Just what I needed to make my long drive fly by! It was time well wasted!!!!!!

Captivating

A captivating story with very well-developed characters for a book of this genre. Excellent narration. Truly enjoyable.

Unvarnished Truth

I want a baby. I don't want a baby. The daisy-chain question rollicks through this book that sets aside the invented perfect worlds of Mommy Clubs and Facebook pages. Julia and Mark, trying for a baby but do they really want one? Belle, satisfied with single forever. Sam, beautiful and gorgeous, already pregnant. Mave, single, career girl. Baby? No, thank you very much.

But life interrupts all their lives. Things change as do attitudes and situations. Those can be reasonably expected in any book building tension. But what the reader may be unprepared for is the unvarnished truth about what happens when baby arrives. Yes, the baby cries. And cries. And cries some more. The baby weight the mother may carry affects confidence and self-esteem. The postpartum depression. Lives turned upside down. Was there life before baby? Will there be life again? Will there at least be sleep? These questions are handled well, and with humor. But not ignored. The primary comment to myself as I listened to this well written novel was, "Thank goodness someone is writing the truth about the adjustments." It was refreshing to listen to the transition from childless to "with kids," that was edgy and honest.

It was not a sad book. No one was near suicide. But personal growth through all the changes was evident in every character, as was compassion and understanding. The characters were likable. Except for maybe Dan and Jill, but those characters served as vehicles to move the plot along and were necessary, although minor.

I did experience some impatience as Green moves the reader from one character's story to the other. The reader goes very long periods of time reading about one character before moving to the next, or getting back to a previous one. A few times I wondered if she simply dropped a story line. In fact, she did drop one completely. The reader must assume the life of the fourth friend simply didn't change at all.

Nevertheless, Green handled the subject matter exceptionally well. It was a good read. And Kate Reading was her usual fabulous narrator-self.

A great book

I really enjoyed this audiobook. The narrator had a nice accent and the story was very entertaining.

Fun!

This was a fun book but it also had good characters. I liked hearing the points of view from the women on children,men & life. It made me laugh & made me think. It was a good read, with a great ending!!

Lots of fun!!

Just need to pay attention ....a lot of characters! I really loved it and would highly recommend it!

Entertaining but not spectactular

This book was a light, entertaining listen as long as you don't expect too much. While the character were interesting, the story was somewhat predictable. My biggest disappointment with this audiobook however was not with the story, which was amusing enough. Instead- it was with the author who insited on reading the book herself. She tries to hold on to character voices and accents, but slips back into her natural voice an accent within a few sentences. This became distracting to the point of annoyance at times. Other than that, it was a fun, easy listen.

Great American stories

This book does a great job of of setting a common American story, that which describes the experiences, differences and similarities between immigrants and natives of (perhaps) the same ethnic group. This group of girlfriends explore the varied hardships, adventures,and joys that comprise the latina experience in the USA. The well written stories are sad, thought provoking and at times hilarious. This would make a great movie and do much to show other Americans how varied Hispanic life and culture can be. The only problem with this book is that it wasn't long enough. I would peek at the timer and lament that this book was almost over.

Go unabridged!

A great book - would have rather had an unabridged edition to hear every last detail!

The Dirty Girls Social Club

Absolutely loved this book. The characters were colorful and wonderful. Women of all ages will appreciate the deep friendships and their circle of love and support. It was a treat to hear the author 'read' her book to us. My only criticism is I would have preferred an unabridged version. I look forward to a sequel from this talented writer.

Better if read to yourself

The story itself was ok, not one of my favorites of the authors, but the narrator is what made me dislike it most. It was very obvious when she stopped and started by change in volume, voice inflection and "accent". Probably would have enjoyed it more if I had read it to myself.

Boring

Rich, beautiful and successful people with stereotypical, improbable problems. Who wants to know about them? I've given up half way through.

In A Class By Itself

Not up to my expectations of Sandra Brown's unfailing ability to completely engrossing me in any of her novels. Is it one of her earliest ones? If so, I'll discount to his one and continue to by them for the rest of my life!

Awful Narrating

I think I would have enjoyed the book if I had read it myself. But hearing this lady try to speak like a man, ruined it all for me. Made it through the first 2 chapters and couldn't stand listening to her fake Texas accent that sound more like a redneck.

I did not find this book to be at all in the spirit of YA YA Sisterhood. There were few likeable characters, the story flowed along over the years without building the relationships. The narrator's voice was often whiny and annoying. I wouldn't recommend.

It's been a long time since reading this book. I enjoyed the easy reading of it, although I was able to guess the ending rather easily.

Great Chemistry

This book was a good read. The chemistry between the mail characters is awesome. It's a good story read in typical "Sandra Brown" fashion.
