    Delightful and entertaining
    314. The History of Tom Jones: a foundling by Henry Fielding (Novel-Audible/E Book-Fiction) 5* I read along with the Audible of the novel which I found a highly delightful and entertaining experience.
The narrator, Bill Homewood, who performed the audio version of the work was excellent doing the various characters as well as the invisible narrator (author) of the story. The Synopsis is as follows:
A foundling of mysterious parentage brought up by Mr. Allworthy on his country estate, Tom Jones is deeply in love with the seemingly unattainable Sophia Western, the beautiful daughter of the neighboring squireâthough he sometimes succumbs to the charms of the local girls. When Tom is banished to make his own fortune and Sophia follows him to London to escape an arranged marriage, the adventure begins. A vivid Hogarthian panorama of eighteenth-century life, spiced with danger and intrigue, bawdy exuberance and good-natured authorial interjections, Tom Jones is one of the greatest and most ambitious comic novels in English literature.
It is rather brilliant, and there is no lack of shenanigans as we follow Jones through his history and the reader never knows when and where the author will abruptly go off on a tangent, told in a most eloquent manner, end with a flourish and no doubt tossed his quill down and took a bow. I am either taken in by some farce or thoroughly enchanted by this author. As Fielding is rather the loquacious writer this read comes in Audible time at almost 38 hours or roughly 1,000 pages but worth every minute spent on it.
The book itself is five stars!
This is a review of the Oxford Classic Kindle edition.
The book itself is one of the greatest novels ever written; this is maybe the third time I've read it. Fielding is a master of irony, by which I mean genuine irony, not the mean sarcasm that often passes for irony these days. Fielding is never mean-spirited. His irony is generous and his humor is benevolent. His characters are three-dimensional, never all good or all bad. Before reading this, I had been re-reading several Dickens novels, and the contrast is enormous. A Dickens villain is a villain to the core, and his heroes (and especially his heroines) are saints. Tom instead is a young man with many faults, but a great heart. Sophia, his beloved, is a genuinely good person, but she's got a certain fiery spirit, and has her moments of doubt and remorse.
I advise you to read every word of this novel. It's divided into books, and the first chapter of each book is an address to the reader, expounding Fielding's theories on literature and on human nature. An impatient reader might be tempted to skip these, but that would mean missing a lot of worthwhile and enjoyable reading.
I have some quibbles with the Kindle edition. There were some mistakes in the passage from print to pixels, but they were not excessive.

    So Boring
I have to say I was bored to tears. I didn't even finish the book. It just seemed to me that the same concepts and views could have been said in half the pages.
    Inspiring
The Gentlemen's Club is a book that is about two things - empowerment and hope. I also think it is about inspiring - each and every women to take ownership of herself, her body, her emotions and the direction in her life.
This touching and deeply felt memoir was the kind that I truly love to read - making me feel happy, sad, disgusted with humans, all the while finding that redemption is possible. While one human being can make it all horrible, the counter balance is another human being that makes it okay and allright. This book is the perfect example of this.
The author has courage, faith and a deep belief in herself and other human beings, which is more than I can say, at times and I have never had to experience half of what she has.
This book is written by a woman, for women everywhere. Inspiring and deeply moving.
Allbooks Review - Fiction Feature of the Month
Homeless and alone, Angie is taking a close look at her life. Her aspirations to be a writer are being pushed aside as she simply tries to survive in a difficult situation. But when she meets the vivacious Julie, she starts to open up and explore the path that has led her to this place, and begins the fight to escape her predicament.
"The Gentlemen's Club" is the story of a woman's growth into a powerful and outspoken advocate for her gender. Told from the perspective of a young struggling write, the story relates how the oppression and fear inflicted by men upon Angie and her friends has eaten away at their self-esteem and self-respect. Eventually, Angie finds her inner strength again with the help of a close friend, and together they work towards guiding other women to the same achievement. Ultimately, Angie researches an article about the Gentlemen's Club, a prominent stripper's bar, and she and Julie set about freeing the women who work there from the histories that have kept them oppressed, cumulating in a powerful act of revenge.
Becky Due is a very talented and intelligent writer. While her personal stance is ever-present in the novel, the individuality of each character comes across clearly and intensely. She has a strong message to deliver, and successfully does so with full and effective force. Her empathy with the plight of women is conveyed with great heart and passion, and she fills the characters' lives with enough trials and tribulations to make their present difficult situations believable and understandable.
The author is a longtime advocate for women's issues, and volunteers with Victims Services and as a guest speaker. She is educated in both Journalism and Women's Studies. A percentage of the profits from the sale of this book go to `Alternatives to Violence.'
With a very decidedly feminist perspective, this book offers a great deal for woman in the way of self-understanding and self-realization.

  • Orson Welles: A One-Person Play in Two Acts Audiobook by Michael B. Druxman

Title: Orson Welles: A One-Person Play in Two Acts
    Author: Michael B. Druxman
    Narrator: Edward E. French
    Format: Unabridged
Length: 1 hr and 9 mins
    Language: English
    Release date: 10-12-12
    Publisher: Michael B. Druxman
Ratings: 3 of 5 out of 4 votes
Genres: Drama & Poetry, Modern Drama
    Publisher's Summary:
Orson Welles is a one-person play in two acts about the life and times of Orson Welles.
Some say that Orson Welles was a genius, but he always denied that. He did give us Citizen Kane, considered by most critics to be the best film ever made, but after that, his career took one long downward plunge.
The play finds Welles trying to find the financing for one of his film projects. It's a difficult task, since most of the Hollywood community considers him to be a "screwball". Pondering his life with his "other self", he tells us about his alcoholic father, his lonely years as a "gifted child", his rise as the "boy genius" of Broadway and the War of the Worlds radio broadcast that panicked America and made his name a household word. But "genius" can be self-destructive - as was the case with Welles. Time after time, with a new post-Kane success within his grasp, he would knowingly make the wrong move, thereby destroying everything he'd built.
Containing wry stories about William Randolph Hearst, Columbia Pictures' Harry Cohn, and Rita Hayworth, Michael B. Druxman's Orson Welles is the "boy genius" at his best.

    Genius and Demons
This is an informative and touching monologue of one of the great geniuses of film.A wonderful
venue for an actor and a fascinating read for the layman and theater/movie person alike. Mr. Druxman
has a keen wit and is sensitive to the inner and outer conflicts of the man he has portrayed here as
    Orson Welles. Bravo!
Understanding the GENIUS that is ORSON WELLES
The great Orson Welles, the genius of film also of stage and radio and TV;"the magnificent Welles" has become a fabulous 2act - 1 person audio book play brought to us by the gifted writer Michael Druxman
The voice of the narrator is Edward French but he sounds like Welles. As the play moves on it is hard to tell what words belong to Druxman and what is Welles and French's voice becomes Welles' voice. So it is very much like listening to Welles speaking directly to me. By the end of the 'book or play or whatever' I think I know more about the man and understand a little more of the why...(perhaps Welles needed to develop his post-production skills or just not take vacations.)

Ho avuto i brividi nel sentire quante colorazioni l'attore Alessandro è riuscito a dare all'intepretazione
