    A true "classic"
Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?
This audio presention is a bit of a smorgasboard drawn from rediscovered note and lectures given by Alan Watts in the 1950s & 1960s. This may sound dated, but alongside Shunru Suzuki, Alan Watts was one of the first to introduce the west to Zen & Taoism. His teaching is clear and concise (for the Western mind) and will point you effortlessly towards the spacious beingness at the heart of zen. Alan Watts was one of the "great minds" that ushered in the flowering of consciousness of the 1960s, so these precious mini-lectures are straight from the (western) source of the spring. Recommended to anyone who wants an overview of Zen, or just wants more Zen in their life, or just needs reminding that this "thusness" is always there, fresh and eternal.
What aspect of Ralph Blums performance would you have changed?
Could read a little more spaciously.
    Half way ah-ha!
At first I wasn't sure if this book was for me. As I read along I kept thinking 'I can't do this. I can't sit still. I can't sit in a lotus position for hours on end waiting for enlightenment to happen' and as the book progressed I realized I am an active meditating person. I meditate when I walk. I meditate when I am doing chores. I meditate when I knit. I know because I'm finding myself in the moment and not concerned with what is next or what has passed. By the end of the book I felt far more relaxed and comfortable with the topic. Interesting read.
    ok
last chapter is the only one to really to listen to
you get all the info from his old videos on YouTube
    Enlightening
Alan Watts is great. love his stuff and that includes this book. Great for those looking for more peaceful life.
Cuts through the barriers to zen.
It's difficult to explain an experiential state in words, but Alan Watts is at least able to point in the right direction.

    Excellent lecture
Content, length and clarity were ideal for this subject matter, looking forward to hearing more of his lectures
    Beautiful, Concise Understanding of Intuition

Genres: Religion & Spirituality, Buddhism & Eastern Religions
    Publisher's Summary:
Father Dom Bede Griffiths was a much revered mystic who grew beyond his Christian traditions to embrace and embody the philosophical grounding of eastern thought. His gift of unconditional love and the divine presence he brought to this world were transformative to his students. His teachings speak to the ever widening numbers of people finding greater meaning beyond the scope of their root traditions. In this conversation Brother Wayne Teasdale and Asha and Russill Paul share their experience of Father Bede and his legacy, and the promise it holds for the world we face today. Russill Paul explains, "As we move into this age in which people feel that they need more than one tradition to feel complete and whole and find balance in their lives, Bede is an icon of interspiritual integrity, because somehow he found a balance in the wholeness of this East-West, male-female, Hindu-Christian meeting point. Somehow he lived and breathed it, and set something in motion for a lot of different people around the world." The late Brother Wayne Teasdale is the author of Bede Griffiths: An Introduction to His Interspiritual Thought (Skylight Paths 2003), A Monk in the World: Cultivating a Spiritual Life (New World Library 2002) and The Mystic Heart: Discovering a Universal Spirituality in the World's Religions (New World Library 1999). Russill Paul is a recording artist and creator of the Yoga of Sound 3 CD set. Asha Paul is a writer, yoga teacher; holds a doctorate in Natural Health, and teaches at the University of Creation Spirituality. Brother Wayne, Asha and Russill are trustees of the Bede Griffiths International Trust.

    Vale la pena.
    Hermoso e ilustrativo. Enseña.
Lo recomiendo mucho. Algo breve para mí gusto. Falta parte dos y subsiguientes.
    Un poco mas que regular
Would you say that listening to this book was time well-spent? Why or why not?
La escencia es buena pero la introducción es muy larga ( de 45 a 60 minutos) y en cierta medida muy reiterativa y poco sustantiva.
What was the most interesting aspect of this story? The least interesting?
Lo menos interesante es la introducción
Which character as performed by George Bass was your favorite?
El cuento que habla de ser como los muertos pero en vida la encuentro muy nutritivo
If this book were a movie would you go see it?
    No
    Any additional comments?
Definitivamente reducir la introducción y aumentar la cantidad de contenido substantivo
    Good stories but...
The tibetan stories are excellent but the comentator doesn't leave room to draw the reader's own conclusions it offers a pont of view even before the story is finished, is very annoying, I stopped listening.

    Release date: 10-21-08

Ratings: 4 of 5 out of 20 votes
Genres: Religion & Spirituality, Buddhism & Eastern Religions
    Publisher's Summary:
First published in 1925, Buddha's Teachings was originally edited by Japanese scholars of Buddhism before WWII and distributed widely throughout Japan. The first English edition was published in 1934. The Reverend Dr. Yehan Numata brought out another English edition in 1962, and in 1966, after the establishment of the Bukkyo Dendo Kyokai (Society for the Promotion of Buddhism), Dr. Numata assembled a committee of Buddhist scholars to substantially revise and edit a new English-Japanese edition. Buddha's Teachings has undergone minor revisions and numerous reprintings since. It is now available in 41 languages, and over 7 million copies have been distributed and placed in hotel rooms in over 50 countries throughout the world.
    Editorial Reviews:
The Reverend Dr. Yehan Numata founded the Bukkyo Dendo Kyokai in order to spread the Buddhist religion throughout the world, and Buddha's Teachings - originally published in 1925 in Japan - is a great introduction to this Eastern practice that preaches a purity of mind and spirit for greater happiness. Listeners are taught some of the core tenets of Buddhism, such as compassion and the negative consequences of desire. Jonathan Reese's pleasant style is clean and uncluttered, allowing the important philosophies to take prominence, making Buddha's Teachings a valuable tool for both novices and practitioners alike.

    A Great & Simple Introduction!
Don't let the age of this book fool you. It's an excellent introduction to the basics of what The Buddha taught; explaining The Four Noble Truths and The Eightfold Path in a creative and different way that I've read elsewhere. The narrator has an excellent voice, the audio is crystal clear. It's a down to earth, simple and easy to understand explanation. I was pleasantly surprised with this. Not very useful for advanced practitioners perhaps, but an excellent introduction on the basics.
very enlightening...get it? ha. but seriously.
this is a great book, I mainly bought this out of curiosity, but I've listened to it three times now and it's well worth the money, my only complaint is I would like to hear a better quality recording. but the quality isn't bad enough for me to justify to much complaining
