    Horrible topic
I couldnt wait for it to be over. Very confusing religion. I tried keeping an open mind but if these million and one little nit picky rules are what it takes to go to heaven then I don't want to go because I would be the only one who would be there. Ridiculous.

    Publisher's Summary:
This Classic Course explores the unfolding of the genius and wisdom in each of us in the quest for the liberating insight into selflessness. In the context of our modern quest for a new vision of reality, Robert Thurman discusses the deepest issues of reality and non-reality, transcendent and the relative. Dr. Thurman's brilliant dissertation on the masterful works by the illuminated Lama, Tsong Khapa (1357-1419), on The Buddhist Theory of Relativity makes this an astounding must-have set of recordings.
    Members Reviews:
Listen to this audio more than once!
At first I found Thurman's discourse uneven and disconnected. After listening to the audio several times I realized he was unpacking several Buddhist writers in a way that fit together brilliantly.
If one wants an audio listen to with patience and diligence one's effort will likely produce an invaluable awareness of emptiness. The audio is like s fine price of music. Each listen strikes a different tone even down to a sudden eye opener with a single sentence that had been passed over several times before,
    Highly intelectual approch to Buddhism
Would you consider the audio edition of Buddhist Theory of Relativity to be better than the print version?
Better, its better to hear Robert Thurman deliver his presentation live, with all his incredible energy and insight
What did you like best about this story?
    Some brilliant insights
    Which scene was your favorite?
His powerful critique of contemporary rationalistic materialism which has remain unchanged since Sir Issac Newton, despite the extraordinary evolution of thought brought about by Quantum physics that directly correlate with Buddhist thought but the ' Carl Sagan" world of " nothing" prevails..why?
Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?
Some of Roberts Thurman's descriptions of certain meditative states
    Any additional comments?
Robert Thurman waxes and wanes , sometimes flashes of pure brilliance, sometimes long pedantic intellectual descriptions of certain mind states.
His ironclad " critique" about our present scientific materialism about " nothingness" prevails once again. Pointing out how contemporary science remains "stuck "in a Newtonian world of " things and objects".. that the scientific community itself is not even up to speed with the theory of relativity and quantum physics which re-introduces the value of the observer into the equation.
To which the Buddha had long understood how there is no " separate intrinsic object" but an infinite chain of inter-dependencies ,relationships that cannot exist in a " vacuum of separateness " How we can become confused about realty by how language is used. Like he says.

Length: 3 hrs and 28 mins
    Language: English
    Release date: 06-20-14

Genres: Religion & Spirituality, Buddhism & Eastern Religions
    Publisher's Summary:
This classic course was recorded in the mid 1980's as we neared the end of the second Christian Millennium; many prophetic voices were being raised to speak of revelation and other apocalyptic visions. Some western mystics even mentioned the future Buddha, Maitreya, in connection with a returning Christ or Christ impulse. What do the Buddhists, themselves, say about the end of the world as we know it? What is Buddhist apocalyptic? This workshop examines these questions with full rigor.
Robert Thurman discusses the prophecy by Guatama Buddha and allows us to probe into details that predict when Maitreya will come. Thurman analyzes the teachings of the future Buddha, presently a bodhisattva residing in the Tushita heaven, who will descend to earth to preach anew the dharma.
    Members Reviews:
who ever edit the audio ruined the ending
at the end they cut off R. Thurman in the middle of him telling the story of Asanga, making it seem as if Asanga never achieves the vision of Maitreya, a huge mistake! please include the ending audio because to a new comer this ending is utterly misleading.

    Format: Unabridged
Length: 9 hrs and 27 mins

    Publisher: Audible Studios
Ratings: 4.5 of 5 out of 6 votes
Genres: Religion & Spirituality, Buddhism & Eastern Religions
    Publisher's Summary:
On a peaceful summer day in 1952, 10 monks on horseback arrived at a traditional nomad tent in northeastern Tibet where they offered the parents of a precocious toddler their white handloomed scarves and congratulations for having given birth to a holy child - and future spiritual leader.
Surviving the Dragon is the remarkable life story of Arjia Rinpoche, who was ordained as a reincarnate lama at the age of two and fled Tibet 46 years later. In his gripping memoir, Rinpoche relates the story of having been abandoned in his monastery as a young boy after witnessing the torture and arrest of his monastery family. In the years to come, Rinpoche survived under harsh Chinese rule, as he was forced into hard labor and endured continual public humiliation as part of Maos Communist "reeducation".
By turns moving, suspenseful, historical, and spiritual, Rinpoches unique experiences provide a rare window into a tumultuous period of Chinese history and offer listeners an uncommon glimpse inside a Buddhist monastery in Tibet.
    Members Reviews:
    Interesting story, distracting narration
Would you recommend this book to a friend? Why or why not?
Only to someone with an existing interest in Tibetan Buddhism or Chinese communism. The book itself is filled with meaningless asides and dead end stories, interesting because of the context, but individually, boring and lend nothing to the story.
What did you like best about this story?
The inside glimpse into the history of the Chinese occupation of Tibet.
Would you be willing to try another one of Mark Ashbys performances?
I would avoid books with this narrator. He annoyingly tries to pronounce names with and absurd accent and when he isn't butchering Tibetan he sounds like a newscaster from the 1950's.
Do you think Surviving the Dragon needs a follow-up book? Why or why not?
    No.

    Format: Unabridged
Length: 1 hr and 15 mins
    Language: English
    Release date: 07-17-13

    Publisher's Summary:
One Essence is a modern commentary on the nondual teachings of a classical Zen text.
It is also a collection of Zen wisdom and poetry, containing the 67 stanzas of the Hsin Hsin Ming (with multiple alternative translations), plus many other succinct spiritual verses from ancient and contemporary Zen sources.
The concise, powerful verses of the Hsin Hsin Ming have been translated repeatedly over the ages, and been the subject of many commentaries in the attempt to understand its simplicity and subtlety. Here, Robert Wolfe, the author of Living Nonduality: Enlightenment Teachings of Self-Realization, provides a modern, nondual look at this ancient Zen-Taoist poem.
All thirty of its quatrains are provided along with a contemporary nondual interpretation as well as selections from other Zen and Taoist teaching poems.
Also included is a short story by Robert Wolfe, "In Death as in Life," envisioning the last days of the Buddha and his nondual teachings.
    Members Reviews:
    Essense of Zen
I've been waiting a long time for a good audio version of Hsin Hsin Ming and so I was very happy to discover this excellent overview of this key text in Zen literature. The author does a good job of doing a line-by-line explanation of the poem. I especially appreciated his use of the variety of translations in this commentary. He showed that there is more than one way to interpret the text. As with all things Zen, listeners are free to reach their own conclusions.
    Undivided
A softly presented introduction to the infinite number of perspectives available to the thinker on the single undivided non-concept of non-duality :-)
    Clear and helpful commentary.
This important teaching is read at the right pace and with a wonderful voice, ideally suited to this profound spiritual teaching. A great guide to the Hsin Hsin Ming.
    Beautiful narration and content
The poem itself is one of the best descriptions of non-duality. Explanation and narration perfect.
    format is a bit off
liked the work, but it's a bit formulaic - verse, translations, repeat. it felt like I'd already need to understand the topic to get anything from this book
