    Title: God's Generals
Subtitle: The Military Lives of Moses, Buddha, and Muhammad
    Author: Richard A. Gabriel
    Narrator: Fajer Al-Kaisi
    Format: Unabridged
Length: 7 hrs and 57 mins
    Language: English
    Release date: 01-10-17
    Publisher: Audible Studios
Ratings: 4 of 5 out of 5 votes
Genres: Religion & Spirituality, Religious Thought
    Publisher's Summary:
This book examines how the military experience of three religious founders shaped their spiritual legacy.
It is one of the more startling facts of military history that the founders of three of the four "great religions" - Judaism, Buddhism, and Islam - were also accomplished field generals with extensive experience in commanding men in battle. One of these, Muhammad, fought eight battles and was wounded twice, once almost fatally. Another, Siddhartha Gautama (later to become the Buddha), witnessed so much battlefield carnage that he suffered a psychological collapse. Moses had become so much a "god-intoxicated" personality that it is a reasonable suspicion that he, like the Buddha, was murdered.
Indeed, had the experiences of these men in war not been so successful, it is quite possible that their achievements as religious leaders would never have occurred. For all three, war and religion were so closely intertwined in their personalities that it is difficult to discern where the influence of one ended and the other began.
This book attempts to explore the military lives of Moses, the Buddha, and Muhammad, and the role their war experiences played in their religious lives.
Skyhorse Publishing, as well as our Arcade imprint, are proud to publish a broad range of books for listeners interested in history - books about World War II, the Third Reich, Hitler and his henchmen, the JFK assassination, conspiracies, the American Civil War, the American Revolution, gladiators, Vikings, ancient Rome, medieval times, the old West, and much more. While not every title we publish becomes a New York Times best seller or a national best seller, we are committed to books on subjects that are sometimes overlooked and to authors whose work might not otherwise find a home.

History is not a liberal conspiracy, it is just what really happened.
Dr. Richard A. Gabriel PhD is an outstanding author and an expert historian. This book is wonderfully written and unlike our poster who has an invisible friend, the book is based on historical fact and not mythical bible fantasy. The kookie christian reviewer starts by stating "I have not read the book"... I have read the book and several other books by Dr. Gabriel. They are very well researched books, written by a former soldier who knows history, and who knows the facts and the nitty-gritty down in the dirt reality of military operations and on being a soldier both for the modern world and ancient world.
As far as being anti-christian, all true historians are anti-christian. Christianity is not history it is a faith based religious mythology. The are very few (if any) historical facts in the bible. Deal with it. History is not a liberal conspiracy, it is just what really happened.
    Christians Beware
I haven't read it and I'm not going too I have seen enough of this guy on the History Channel. This guy is the most anti-Christian professor I've seen on the TV screen so far. What disturbed me the most is why did not the HC didn't allow anyone to refute or place another opposite view on anything he said.

    Great quick read!
Awesome book that challenges the way we think about business and prosperity. It provokes leaders to consider the true source of success and tap into that source more often. This book is a little gem!!
    Great Read
This man's work is timeless. It is just a relevant today as it was 96 years ago, and his theories could be used to explain so many great economic successes and failures. Quick Read 30-45 mins

I found it very interesting to read things from the perspective of so long ago, to realize the more things change the more they stay the same. I love this book, it is filled with true words of wisdom.
    Loved this book.

    Publisher's Summary:

When one of the points becomes blocked, energy cannot flow as it is intended to flow. Thus, there are certain actions that you can take to heal the flow and make sure that the chakra is cleared. This book assumes that you are a beginner. It explores where the chakras are located and what each one of them does to your sense of well-being. When you learn that, you also learn to respect your posture, your interaction with others, and increase your self-esteem levels by making sure that the chakras are always in perfect alignment. Although you may be a little doubtful about whether this really works, it has been proven over centuries and is not something new. Those who have been able to keep the chakras open to the flow of energy that life offers them, tend to be healthy and happy. This book is written to help you achieve that same level of happiness that is available for all, but that few achieve because of their own inadequacies. The book explains exercises that you can do to open up problematic chakras. It talks about things that are important to human beings such as lifestyle and shows you how to gain harmony in your life by balancing your chakras and to encourage great energy flow. The energy that you gain in your life isn't just a matter of physical activity. Sometimes other things can help you and this book looks at the body as a whole and shows you how to make the most of the life that you have, using the energy flow to keep you enthused about each day of your life. Find out where your chakras are blocked and learn how to unblock that chakra that may indeed be stopping your energy flow.

    Publisher's Summary:
    We're all waiting for something.
It might be a spouse or a baby. It might be healing or a home. Regardless of what we're waiting for, it's easy to feel discontent when things aren't going as planned and our dreams are delayed - especially when questions of "why?" and "how long?" remain unanswered.
God uses seasons of waiting to teach us patience and make us more like himself. But sanctification is not the only purpose God has in mind. When we wait faithfully with unmet longings, we become a powerful picture of the bride of Christ waiting for the day when he returns and God's kingdom reigns.

Great Story..the audible version was a big NO
Would you consider the audio edition of Seasons of Waiting to be better than the print version?
This book sends a great message but the cadence and accent of the narrator got to me so much that I could not finish the audio version. She read very slowly and pronounced certain words so specifically that it drove me crazy.
Would you be willing to try another one of Ann Marie Lees performances?
    NO
Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?
    No
    Waiting Well....
This book is something I needed. I wish I could say it made me more hopeful that I will not be single for the rest of my life. The book was honest that not everyone is called to be married and my wait not end in this life.
I have been looking for how to survive the what seems like perpetual waiting. This book did that. I understand there is no one thing I can do to move past this season of waiting. The waiting only ends on God's time frame. Good book lots of good tips and insight. Honest and real no false hope.

The philosopher Blaise Pascal called man "the supreme paradox", because compared to all other creatures, he is both the most magnificent and the most miserable. What did Pascal mean? The answer goes to the heart of what the Bible says about man.
Man is created in the image of God, but the Bible also tells us that man has fallen into sin and become corrupt. In Are People Basically Good?, Dr. R.C. Sproul explores the nature of mankind by looking at what it means to be made in the image of God, and exploring the nature and effects of the fall.

    Members Reviews:
The answer, of course, is no
The answer, as anyone who studies and believes scripture knows, is no, we are not basically good. All have sinned and gone astray. One of our many problems is that we aren't basically good, can't be basically good but many of us want to be good. The only answer to the dilemma is God's grace. Unmerited, unearned grace given as a free gift of God.
For those who don't believe Scripture, there is human history to tell us that man is not basically good. Little things such as roughly 10,000 recorded wars in roughly 10,000 years of recorded history. And this does not take into account the wars lost to history and those too small for history to even notice. One of our major predilections is killing each other in mass or individually. Nothing man can do will ever stop it.
    I love all of Sproul's free mini-books
I love all of Sproul's free mini-books. From the titles, I assumed that they had very simple content and weren't worth the time of an "established Christian". I happily admit I was wrong. They are far from simple and I love how Sproul makes a seemingly simple concept anything but with thought provoking text. Because they are free, you have no excuse but to download and read them all!
    Are we Good?
RC Sproul is the consummate teacher. He has written over 100 books and is respected by many. I would recommend this book but I think his many other works are more instructive. Nevertheless, if you haven't read or listened to this scholar, why not give it a go?
Concise doctrine on who we are. Great booklet!
Pastor Sproul is a master teacher. He develops the theme brilliantly arguing from the Scriptures the human condition. A proper view of God is a prerequisite to actually know who we are, and why. Great read!
Great exploration of an important question
This is an excellent discussion of what it means to be human. The book succinctly lays out what it means to be created in God's image and explores what that means in the light of the existence of sin. It takes up the questions of whether or not sin is an intrinsic and necessary part of what it means to be human and the extent of sinfulness in humans. Of course, this book's brevity means that it doesn't say everything that needs to be said on the topic or fully develop the answers to the questions, but it is a good introduction to the topic.
