Eleanor Chappell is the Executive Director of Buddy Up Australia which is a registered Charity with a nationwide presence delivering physical, social and volunteering events/opportunities across Australia.  Buddy Up Australia supports ex-serving veterans and first responders in the community operating in the preventative and early intervention space of mental health and wellness.  

Eleanor was a former Police Officer in both England and Western Australia. Eleanor also served in the Reserve Army in England and became a British kick boxing champion!  After leaving her role in the Police Force she changed paths and built two companies from scratch. 

After a successful 2021 (despite Covid), Eleanor started to miss her life in the forces and decided to join Buddy Up Australia which became the missing jigsaw piece when she transitioned from Police Officer to civilian.

Kate is a passionate advocate for women in STEM and the innovation ecosystem. Founder of She Codes, she has led the steep growth of the project since 2015. Thanks to her work, more than 6500 women have learnt to code through free programs throughout Australia. Kate has hustled to source more than a million dollars from government and industry to support women in STEM projects. With a regional upbringing in Western Australia, she strongly believes in empowering women from the world’s remotest regions. 

Kate has also contributed to the growth of Spacecubed as a Senior Leader, joining as employee number 4, and since 2014 has played a pivotal role in building community.  In 2021 Kate was awarded a Business News 40under40 in recognition of her leadership, was awarded a 2019 West Australian Rising Star award and was a runner-up for the 2019 and 2020 Seven News Young Achiever Awards. Kate is skilled in Event Planning, Customer Service, and Entrepreneurship, with almost 10 years experience.  In 2022 Kate was also the winner of the Women in Digital Champion of Change award.

Deborah Attard Portughes is the Chief Executive Officer at Women and Infants Research Foundation (WIRF) which is Western Australia’s leading independent research institution dedicated to improving the health of women and babies.  WIRF’s innovative achievements to date include reducing the rate of preterm birth by 8% across Western Australia and developing ground breaking research into creating an artificial womb which will allow preterm babies to live out of the uterus. 

Deborah (also known as Deb) shares valuable insights into her role as a leader and how she enjoys leading by example.  Deb believes we should all be the change we want to see.   

Deb’s career journey started in Malta working as a qualified family and commercial Mediator, then TV presenter, and also an Accredited trainer in Edward deBono’s Six Thinking Hats and DATT (Direct Attention Thinking) tools. Tim shares insights into his financial career including 24 years working for L'Oréal, the largest cosmetics and beauty company in the world with revenues amounting to about 40 billion U.S. dollars. 

Tim’s roles at L'Oréal include Global Domain Leader Operations Finance Transformation in Paris and SVP Finance Corporate Operations, the Americas Zone.  He was promoted several times and responsible for providing overall financial leadership, planning and strategy for 14 manufacturing plants and 35 distribution centres located in 13 countries in the America's Zone. In addition to managing and piloting significant operating and capital expenditure budgets which run into billions of U.S. dollars, Tim was functionally responsible for over 70 finance professionals. 

Tim is now Group Finance Director (CFO) at Wyevale Nurseries Ltd.  Tim and the team at Wyevale Nurseries are doing some incredible things.  Tim shares leadership insights and gives some valuable advice if you want to pursue a career in finance.  His personal mantra is "never be satisfied" which Tim believes stops complacency.  He also shares tips on how to get unstuck and strive for what you want in life.
