  • 5. Wise choices & Lockdown mental health & happiness
Inspired by Gloria Gaynor setting up a TikTok account and singing along to her own 'I Will Survive hit whilst washing her hands, I am looking at the wise choices I can take right now.
As most of the world is in lockdown it is so easy to just keep checking the awful news and the mounting data or indeed try to limit it for mental health reasons and catch up on films, series and books we want to. I personally am determined to get some creative goals completed and I am encouraging myself and us all to pick a project and get it finished and out there in the next few months whilst this coronavirus keeps us all in quarantine. Having read extensively on happiness, one of the measures of absolute happiness is seeing yourself work every day towards a goal. Relative happiness is getting something you want and a temporary rush, but absolute happiness is something you can work towards every day. Even in the middle of stress and all the worry about finances and each other, a few words written, or a guitar practised can really help your mental health. The world needs art so much as do us artists need to keep moving it forward, one small step at a time.

Welcome to my podcast (there's a blog too!) on being creative, from that initial sparkle of the thought ‘I could’ to actually finishing it and getting your ‘art’ out there. My 'art' has got there, I have toured globally with my own shows and characters with sell-out runs from Australia to Edinburgh Fringe.

    Aims of this podcast
I sometimes only seem to create when I have to create, under pressure or deadlines and then I moan about the rush. Ridiculous when I think about the fact I have chosen this creative life, or it has chosen me and I must follow my muse – often grumpily it seems! Or I do nothing and then feel guilty as I watch friends get with their own projects. Hence this podcast is about what techniques we can all use to get the work done and out there, no matter where you work full time as an actor, a choreographer or have a yearning to paint more over the weekends.

  • 4. What Next? The single most important question you can ask to get any project moving forward
What next is the singular most powerful question you can ask to move any project forward. In David Allen's brilliant but full on 'Getting Things Done' productivity book, he argues how vital it is to just to know the next step and then action it.

Joss Whedon (Buffy, Marvel Avengers, Firefly) used this question famously to get his 'Much Ado About Nothing' feature film made during a long edit of Marvel Avengers. The black and white Shakespeare movie, which won at Toronto Film Festival, Joss Whedon said in a Fast Company interview, only got made cos of him and his partner keep asking and actioning 'What Next'.

For me, asking 'what next?' rides the project through any inner resistance.

  • 3. Deadlines Are Lifelines: How I get my creative projects finished and out there
In this podcast episode I talk about how I have always used deadlines to get creative projects over the line and delivered. Deadlines for me are creative lifelines: and external deadlines are the real key. From promising a publication date to a run of performances of a new character or song, this is the only way I know how to get proactive and moving forward. Artistic projects are never perfect, we all have to decide when to deliver them and creating deadlines is my way to get things done.

  • 2. Leading Indicators, what you do today helps predict your future
What you do today to move your life forward helps predict your future. Using the idea of 'leading indictators', used often in graph form to help predict future movements from stock markets to business planning, this podcast episode talks about using this for your own creativity. No matter what else is going on in the rest of the world, you can at least keep creating, practising and moving your life forward and spreading joy to others.

  • 1. Family planning, create and produce an creative project involving the whole family as school's out during coronavirus
Welcome to my podcast (there's a blog too!) on being creative, from that initial sparkle of the thought ‘I could’ to actually finishing it and getting your ‘art’ out there.

This week's episode is a special Coronavirus schools out episode, inspired by a colleague musing on what to do with his son, now home during the COVID-19 pandemic. So I dreamed up an entire project for him and his son and used it as a basis for this.
Using your own creative talents or dreams plan a family wide project from the idea creation, the production and even the getting it out there. Whether family is spread in different locations or or in one house, lets paint, create and release songs, films and entire new cartoons created by the whole family. With everyone contributing and learning together .. I can see your gran learning about TikTok it can be a fun and unifying experience for all ;)
