Very good in parts but much too long

What did you like best about The Foster Husband? What did you like least?

The story was much better than the title or blurb would lead you to believe, with more meat to it, it was not a "jolly" chiclit story but something deeper and sadder. I found some of the jumps from the present to the past a bit confusing and though I liked the ending (unlike some other reviewers) I felt that it was dragged out too long and I was beginning to lose sympathy with the heroine, Kate.

Would you be willing to try another book from Pippa Wright? Why or why not?

The narrator did a good job but I don't think that reading the book would have made any difference to the way I felt about it.

A subtle tale of heartbreak

This was a good read from an author I have enjoyed in the past. The story centers around the strong friendship between two girls and various friends. One of the two disappears on Christmas Eve and the lengths our heroine goes to find her are truly impressive. There is a love interest thrown in and some surprising and startling revelations along the way. The missing girl had what appeared to be an idyllic life and was madly in love with her gorgeous boyfriend so everyone fears the worst as it doesn't seem like she took off of her own free will. I liked the way the story developed, the tale being told by both girls in different chapters. It held my interest and was very credible. While it is essentially chick lit what really impressed me was the way a very cruel fact of real life emerges as the tale unfolds and it taught me that things are not always what they seem. The only reason I didn't deliver five stars is that I grew very impatient with the low self esteem one of the characters consistently displayed and while I know this was probably deliberately done I could have given her a good shake but that's just me. It was a bit overplayed I felt. Well done Claudia. I look forward to my next experience of your very intelligent offerings.

One of her best!

The story is really original and keeps you guessing all the way through the book. The characters are warm and real. She isn't as funny as in "He Loves Me not..he loves me' but that suits this book-Carroll treats the subject matter with the respect it deserves. I had it finished in 3 days.

The Biggest Door is a great read

Think modern day "Death of a Salesman" This book takes you through the journey of a struggling businessman named Ken Sabino. After moving to Chicago and marrying his college sweetheart, Ken opens a factory and is making his way towards the "American Dream." After the Economic downfall Ken's business starts to fail. This story is one man's story of what happened to thousands of people during the economic collapse. Ken finds his strength to get through these troubled times by swallowing his pride and seeing a psychiatrist, which to him, opened the biggest door. This book is a great read.

Worth Reading

I loved this book. The author did a great job of shaping the characters -- I was really rooting for the hero and his family. I downloaded this book and stayed up until 2 a.m. finishing it because I couldn't put it down and i wanted to see how it all worked out. Really a feel good story and a reminder to have faith that life does get better.

More Profound than the Synopsis

This is a book that exposes the inner-most thoughts of a person. It doesn't matter the setting, location, financial status. It doesn't matter that it's a bankruptcy. What is conveyed is the deepest unspoken thoughts of a man's personal struggles, near defeat and resigned acceptance. Les has shown the humanness of all people.

Couldn't put it down!

This book pulls you in instantly. The main character has spilled his guts for all to see. Ken is a great story teller who makes you laugh and cry at the same time. The reader experiences the realities of going bankrupt with an ending as good as the Kite Runner.

Beautiful survival

This book has made me feel the human side of business more than any other I have ever read. We all understand that more than money is involved when a business goes down. But in his unforgettable account of his pain and guilt and of his unmanageable sense of loss, Les Russo truly lets us know what it means to have owned a business, to have built a life around it, to have given a life to others by means of it--and then to have seen it all go. He doesn't just take us through this incredible trial--he takes us deep down into it. We sit with him alone on the floor of the now vacant plant, slated for demolition, and wait with him for the final hammer to come down. Amazing. And equally amazing is his wonderful survival, which lets us know that what we think is the zero point--is not. This is a book we are truly grateful for.

Read all the multi-packs and shorts packs long ago, since 2012. The author has gotten better with age/practice. I've read almost all of the Cooper stories (1 - 230) and several of Mr. Bernico's short stories and most have not disappointed me. You'll find some poorly written or predictable stories, but for the most part they are fair to good. The Cooper series are better, but there's a few stinkers, too. They're great for a coffee break or a few minutes to relax.

He's done this elsewhere

Burns was about ready to leave the office for the day, but his boss, Theodore Russell , said the papers he'd done weren't good enough: he had to make revisions tonight so they'd be ready first thing in the morning.

Burns really needed to be somewhere else tonight, but if he hurried, he could revise the papers and still get where he wanted to go. Of course, that was before the burglars broke into the building.

What was the "attack" of the title? What papers were so important they had to be revised tonight? What did the burglars have to do with anything? Almost as many questions as pages.

This story was okay. But I just read another Bernico story that was written more or less the same way. When you have the same thing done more than once in stories with so few pages, it is disappointing if not boring. It certainly made this story (which was only okay but nothing special in the first place) less than stellar.

Would you try another book written by Mark Mills or narrated by Peter Kenny?

I like mark mills books and have read quite a few. But this audible books lets down the author, person who recorded it and the story. I cannot listen to this book for very long before it grates as it sound as if it has been recoded in a well. The sound is extremely poor. I am not sure I can do anything about it. I have tried to listen through headphones, speakers but it still sounds the same. Perhaps to download again might be the answer. Has anyone else experienced this?.
