MY TAKE

I'm reviewing the audiobook.

Wow. LOVED this narrator. Wonderfully deep voice that didn't sound stupid and squeaky when doing the female voices. I think the bad guys were even more ominous because if this guy's fabulous reading

The story--compelling mystery, touching characterizations, and great suspense. All the characters were flawed, sometimes so much that I wanted to scream and shake them. Kind of like in real life. One aspect that I loved was the symbolism of the butterfly that runs through the book. I found myself wanting very much for certain results in the end, and Argyle kept me hanging on to the very end to find out whether or not I would get what I wanted.

Beware--thar be blood.

This story wasn't a happy kind of tale, but there were moments I wanted to scream.

I wanted to like this...

Would you try another book from Pamela Haines and/or Tara Ochs?

I would definitely try another book by Pamela Haines. I just found this one was more about Edwina's childhood than it ever was about her adult years. 1/2 of the way through the book, she's still 13 years old and going to convent school... I enjoyed Ms. Haines' writing style, so I will try another book of hers.

The narrator, particularly in the middle of the book, was so posh and pompous that it made it hard to tell if she was affecting for dialogue or just talks that way normally. It just didn't do it for me.

Any additional comments?

I will try another book by Pamela Haines - I have downloaded Daughter of the Northern Fields.

But whether the narrator ruined it for me, or the book just happened to move slowly, I don't know what made me give up halfway through.

Awesome Adventure

The Bostonauts by Jim K Cooper is a very well crafted story. Most of the landmarks and Band titles are real, the characters are inter played with details, only gradually revealed. âWhoâs Philâ, I thought, I must have missed something. Frustrated, I actually read over from the beginning. Then I got it, a chapter later. Phil, like many other characters, are gradually introduced as if on a âNeed to knowâ basis. âTwas only one word, âPhilâ in just one sentence; then a chapter later, more. Jim Cooper is masterful, as he does these slight of âWriterâsâ hand tricks of trickling in a characterâs identity and story. Several more character introâs slipped me up, but only for a page re-read, as I was âgetting itâ and absorbing character identities now, almost like opening to hypnotic suggestion. I was learning to âTrustâ-- in that, the writer, would give me exactly what I needed to know, and it wouldnât overwhelm me, as more and more characterâs complete the story.

It was like catching a wave by that point, about the 3rd or 4th chapter, and I couldnât âPut Downâ this read. More than the story line, though most all the landmarks were personally familiar to me. âTwas the mastery of this flash forward, flash again, where?, to no sacred Timeline. I worried that this novel would loose me in the detail, but the stream of the âScriptâ of these Bostonauts and their immediate family lives and relations, just pulled me along as if Ken Kesey and his Merry Pranksters had abducted me on their legendary coast to coast trip in the 60âs. Anywho, the wave of continually surprising flashing chapters and building detail, to lives and characters, was a really meandering and memorable ride to an ecotopian vision of the 1% of the 1%. ? Iâm not giving it away. Iâm just saying, this is a brain exercise that might just bring one back to earth. 100% Well written!

Garlic warms the belly long after itâs eaten. This is a story that will linger like garlic, or ginger, or Sake, or a Pizza pie.

A Fantastic Read: Interesting characters, fun, twisty plot.

Jim Cooper's first novel is a dandy. Complex, multidimensional, sometimes quirky characters, interesting settings and an engaging storyline make The Bostonauts a great read. I look forward to more of Jim's work.

Wonderful story.

Emotional. Rollercoaster of frustration, fury, and funny moments, plus a heart wrenching reminder of the challenges faced in different times. Uplifting in parts, tear jerking in others. A memorable listen. Great narration too.

Narrator really jangled

I've listened to a few books written and narrated by Amanda Prowse, and quite enjoyed them - reasonably entertaining chick lit. This, however, had a different narrator - very strident and difficult to listen to. Can't say much about the story as the narration was so awful I've returned the book for a refund having got only about half way through the first chapter!

A Farce of Unforeseen Circumstances

This really is a quirky book. If youre looking for something just a bit different this might well be it. It develops as a crime thriller with many of the characteristics of a theatrical farce. In fact you can throw in a little bit of Lassie while you are at it. There is a lead character who is utterly unimpressive apart from the straits he lands himself in. A humorous pair of cliché cops on his tail and a good old redneck semi-villain on a collision course with just about everyone. They all think they are right in their own ways, but probably arent of course.

I have to say well done to the publisher for not trying to make out that a book with some elements of humour in it is hilarious or laugh a minute, Im very tired of that! Darkly humorous as they have it is just about right. Scenes such as the night when Jason comes up with his new plan are funny as you picture them in your mind.

REALLY EXCELLENT BOOK

Whether or not you have spent time in the corporate world, this is a "MUST READ". Having spent 30 years working for major corporations, I can attest to the fact that these absurd characters and egos really exist. The author truly captures the mood and accurately describes the antics and bizarre behavior of senior management

at many large organizations. Mr. Ward's narrative flows smoothly and believably throughout the book. The characters came alive and I felt their emotional pain and suffering, caused by the maladjusted

power driven CEO. The dehumanizing effect of many corporatations saddens me, but this author has the ability to tell this story both in a humorous and poignant way. I LOVED THIS BOOK!!!!

A Corporate Knock Out!

It is" safe to say" that this novel delivered the corporate goods. The characters are superbly crafted .The depiction of the often ridiculous machinations of the corporate world are presented with great insight and humor. Only the love story itself of two such disparate characters trumps the riveting story of ACC's upper management.

Harmon and Riley are characters that grab the reader from beginning to end. The ride is filled with gut wrenching tension and moments of heart warming tenderness. I love this book. Great novel!

Safe to Say on the money!

Great book! I spent my career in management at large companies, including AT&T. This book captures the personalities, politics, and absurdities of the corporate world. I especially like the way the author describes the personalities and discussions of the task force. Very insightful, and obviously based on real world experience. My only comment is that the ending was somewhat abrupt, and could have been more realistic. Overall, high marks!

Excellent, quick, easy to read book!

Gives insight into corporate world in th 80's, in an entertaining and humorous fashion. For the many who have lived through the corporate experience, they will recognize the characters and situations. For those who have not, it will give them an appreciation of life is like to be able to succeed or not, in that environment. I highly recommend it. Enjoy! Pat J.

Great fiction about the local reactions to the Brown vs, Board of Education.

Hays is an excellent story teller. The characters are well developed with human frailties. You are able to see yourself in the situations. I especially appreciated the introduction of similarities of the attitudes about Jews and homosexuality. I thnk he reminds us of how misguided ignorant hate is justified in the mind of the hater.

I enjoyed the book and could not put it down.
