but a very fine and humorous description of what happened told through many ...
Henrik Pontoppidan was born i Denmark in 1857 an died 1943.
His was born into a very old family of clergymen, but he decided to become a university-trained engineer. He never passes the final examination or practised as a engineer. Just before the finale examination he became a full time writer/novelist.
He received the the Nobel Prize in literature in 1917.
This book was written in 1892 and describes the situation i Denmark at the same time. It was a periode characterist with the many discussions and fights after the ending of absolutely monarchy (1849), introducing the constitution with democracy and cabinet responsibility in the country.
This was a fight that proceeded until 1901.
The fights and discussions were newer extremely in a violent way - You hardly newer se a dane with a knife in one hand, unless he have a fork in the other - but the result influenced the way the country is governed today.
The boook is not a textbook, but a very fine and humorous description of what happened told through many different persons and their lives in a time of great basically changes.
You will enjoy its well composed style and construction its lightness, its well-turned languages, humor and irony, and this book - though written for more than 100 years ago appear as written today - also for a internationally public.
So saying - my very best recommendation.
