    Members Reviews:
    Both entertaining and educational
I ordered this book for my son, who was born on Groundhogs Day (finding it after doing a search on Amazon for anything on the subject of Groundhogs Day). I was extremely pleased to find that not only was the book very entertaining for the younger set, but was a very good introduction to the science of weather. The author did an excellent job of illustrating weather concepts with the use of groundhog characters (e.g., Sunny, Tornado, Fog, etc.), and also included a glossary of weather terms.
I originally bought the book as a novelty for my son's birthday, but now regard it as a child's introduction to the weather. Both adults and children will enjoy Punxsutawney Phil and His Weather Wisdom.
Coincidentally, although I had purchased the book last year, I happened to meet the author at a small country fair two weeks ago, while on a trip back East (in Webatuck, NY, no less -- home of the world's largest chair. (Living in Webatuck means always having to spell your address.) Thanks for the groundhog cookie cutter -- I'll think of you every February 2nd!

    Where Could They Be?
The author, Lela Hope, has written another fun story with lessons to be learned.. Penny was a fun loving little girl, and she liked to play with her toys outside. One day she was playing with her toy parakeet when her mom called her inside for lunch. When she went back to the yard, the parakeet was gone. She looked everywhere, and finally mom suggested she play with her teacups and her doll. And, then again, she went inside and when she came back, the doll and teacups were missing. When you read this book you will finally understand what was happening to Penny's toys.
Adults will enjoy reading this book to their children. The children can certainly identify with missing toys and wondering just where those toys went. Lots of guess games can be played to guess where the toys are. The illustrations are bright, vivid and colorful. They depict the story and adventures of Penny. One of the best parts of the book is that it is written in rhyme, and that is one of the most fun ways to read a book. There is a lesson to be learned in this story, and thatbis a very good thing.

    The essence of sharing.
I find this book a good on to be read and enjoyed during bedtime bonding times. I like how the book inculcated the morals that I can also put into the mind of my kid. I appreciate how Penny showed the essence of sharing.
    Very cute book
My nephew Aiden liked that her toys were missing and she was able to find them all. my niece Cori liked the part where she found the puppies with her toys. My niece Kaitlyn liked that the puppies had the toys.
    A lovely story
Leela Hope writes really delightful books and it is no surprise that children identify with her cute characters and love to read her books. The drawings picture friendly people and lovely animals, and are eye catching.
In this adventure, written in fun poetry, young Penny left her toy on the lawn when she went to eat and when she returned, it was gone. Then, when she played with her doll, it disappeared. And the same thing happened with her ball.
Children will enjoy finding out what happened to all of her toys and why Penny was happy about the loses when she found out what happened.
âPenny loved playing Out in her backyard. Sheâd play with her toys And pretend to stand guard.â
San Diego, California Author Leela Hope studied English Literature at Berkeley, earning a degree in 1989. Her writing covers a span of several genres, but she always returns to her first love, children's fiction. And it is there that her star shines brightest. Always finding something unique on which to base her stories, she makes each tale a learning experience for children as well as offering some pointers for parenting!
In this continuing series of books written for preschool children â PENNYâS MISSING TOY MYSTERY is Book 3 of the series â we meet Penny in her back yard playing with her toy parakeet.

Lawrence has the great ability which many writers lack, and that is to 'show the story, not tell it'.
I've been moved to tears a few times while watching TV. Why? Because I *see* the scripted story unfolding before my eyes. However, I've only ever been moved to tears whilst reading a novel three times in my thirty six years on the planet.
Today though, was a first for me. I took a break from the daily monotony of dealing with admin, to read this short story by an author whose work, up until recently, I had heard about, but not read. I am almost finished with her novel "Why You were Taken", which is incredible. I look forward to reviewing it soon.
But, back to the present..."Bridge Gate" is touching story between an absentee father and his daughter who longs to get to know him, and to me personally, very relatable. I believe this will be the case to many people who will read it. The story starts with a touch of distance between father and daughter, but as the story is revealed, it is done so with tenderness and affection between the two letter-writers. I have never cried over a story told in only 17 pages, and doubt that it will happen in a hurry again.
Ms. Lawrence has the great ability which many writers lack, and that is to 'show the story, not tell it'.
    Highly recommended.
    Great quick read
Bridge Gate by J.T. Lawrence was a good quick read. A daughter who wants a relationship with her father connects to him through letters. I really enjoyed reading this short story.
    Excellent Story
This is such an original and a touching story! I raced through the pages only to find an unexpected ending!

Meet the Bears of the British Columbian Rain Forest
A Bear's Life by Ian McAllister is a wonderful nature book with gorgeous photographs taken by the author. There are pictures of bears, other animals, and the beautiful landscape of the British Columbian Rain Forest. The text in the book describes the life of the bears, what they eat, how they forage, raise their young and hibernate. The information is short and not too detailed for young readers. I liked reading about the Spirit Bear as that is not something I really knew about before. This is a good book to give basic information and to peak the interest of the reader to investigate further. It is also a good non-fiction book for young readers. A great book for kids of all ages. Great learning book and a great visual delight. I would recommend this book for public, school and classroom libraries. The publisher generously provided me with a copy of this book via Netgalley.
An adorable and heartfelt book with fabulous images!
A Bear's Life by Ian McAllister and Nicholas Read is an excellent nature book that has the most fabulous images! There are pictures of bears, other animals, of the gorgeous natural landscape, of the "spirit bears", of bears fishing, and more. The pictures are crisp, clear, and stunning! They make the reader feel warm, caring, and understanding to the bear and their life, and surroundings. The information that accompanies the pictures gives the reader information about the life of the bears, what it would be like to be a bear, what they would get, see, do, hunt, etc. A great book for kids of all ages. Great learning book and a great visual delight! I want to thank NetGalley and the book publishers for allowing me to read this book.
    Fascinating and beautiful
An introduction to the Great Bear Rainforest, the types of bears who live there, and their typical activities throughout the year.
This was so very well done. The text flows and is informative, but the photos are what really make this book excellent. They arenât just photos of bears, they catch the bears in action and make them come alive. A beautiful, informative, and engaging book. Highly recommended for curious lower and middle grade students, and any class studying temperate rainforests or bears. Iâll definitely be recommending that our elementary library add this title.
I received an ARC of this title from the publisher through NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.
No matter how old we are, we never stop learning something new.
When I saw the photograph of a white bear on the book's cover, I became curious and wanted to find out more about it. I have never seen a white bear before in my life. I also did not know about the Great Bear Forest, located in British Columbia. The beautiful photographs of the bears that live there and the descriptions that go with them, are ideal to capture the curiosity of young children. Even I, as an adult, learned something new from this book.
