Language: English

Publisher's Summary:

Jon is a grade school student who has a part-time job at a labratory where they experiment with animal DNA. When he hears that one of the scientists needs a tray full of samples, Jon runs to get it, trying to show how helpful he can be. In his haste he spill the contents of nine cups of animal DNA and the contents mix together. Sure, it was an accident, but the results make for an amazing discovery.

The scientists decide to incubate the batch anyway and the animal that results from the accident has the DNA of nine different animals in its genetic makeup. They decide to call it "The Nano Beast," but Jon thinks that sounds too harsh and asks if they can change it something that reflects Nine Animals - Nanimal.

The egg eventually hatches and Nanimal begins talking with the other lab animals. He decides to escape and find his "mother," which turns out to be a tougher task than he'd imagine, since it could be any one of nine species.

This was my first attempt at writing a childrens' story and it's aimed at 8-10 year olds.

Nine Pounds of Gold is a Rare Gem

This is an adventurous and inspiring story. I didn't realize that there were actually 9 pounds of gold in the ocean. It's the kind of narrative that makes you think about everything we take for granted, how magical and mysterious the world really is and how much discovery is right at the tip of our fingertips. The adventures of Bick and Stink series is well-written and one-of-a-kind.

very cute, great moral

Me and my 5 year old love this story, we refer to it when we get frustrated our plans aren't going our way. I love the way it's layed out and the process this Picidilly O goes through. I feel it's very import for children to learn these coping skills and be able to work through struggles but also be happy with where they are and what they have. I cannot wait for more!

Starts slow, but becomes one of her best works.

Highly recommended. Great batch of characters for this series. Sorry to see there's only one more book to come, and that she hasn't written anything else in years.

not one of her better ones

I like higgins books but this one was really dry and hard to read. I am an adult and read a lot of young adult novels simply because they read fast. Cannot see how a young adult can stick with this one.
