I can see this being a real hit with the kids.

Bill the badger had found himself lost far from home. All of a sudden he was shoved into a stinky bag and thrown over someones shoulder, someone was kidnapping him. When he was finally set free he came to be standing in front of two very large women, women as tall as a bus, and with no necks. The women told him that he was going to become a fighter and that his first fight would be in two days. Oh, and he had to wear red shorts too.

Nearby four llamaâs were wet, tired, hungry and nearly bald after they had been deceived into living on the best llama farm ever. Farmer McGloone only wanted the llamaâs for their fur, but as they werenât producing enough he had decided to kill them and make handbags, belts, and even pies out of them. This made the llamaâs even more sad.

Walking nearby, Uncle Shawn, who happened to be an animal lover, noticed Billâs paw prints, and from them he realised that Bill had been kidnapped. He decided to followed the human prints that were in the mud, to rescue him. He soon found himself on a farm, he decided he needed a plan to rescue Bill, then he noticed the llamaâs and decided he needed a plan to save them too. Will Uncle Shawnâs plan work though?

Uncle Shawn and Bill and the Almost Entirely Unplanned Adventure, is a book that will have children laughing out loud, with itâs hilarious, strange plot, and the even funnier black and white illustrations.

A.L. Kennedy writes in such a way that kids will find themselves hooked on the book. His word choices are definitely aimed to impress the youngsters, especially with his funny antidotes, and descriptions of the nasty McGloone family.

I can see this being a real hit with the kids.

Traditional Fairy Tale

Would you consider the audio edition of Petrella, the Gillian Princess to be better than the print version?

Not better, (not worse!) just different. I really enjoy audio books and being read to. Audio is the perfect forum for a children's story. But books offer imagery that the audio does not. I felt the pacing of the reader was fast and I found myself missing elements of the story. With a book, you can read at your own pace.The BEST part of audio is they pronounce the hard words for you, and I felt like there were words I may have stumbled over if I was reading the book myself. :)

What did you like best about this story?

I'm a sucker for fairy tales. The author did a nice job creating the worlds and characters. It was familiar and engaging. I thought this was a children's book, but some of the subject matter seemed aimed at older ages. For an upper middle grade/YA it could have been longer with more conflict and resolution. Who doesn't like a happily ever after ending? But I thought it odd that there was no reaction to her father's death or mention of her leaving her home world.

What about Jo Nelsons performance did you like?

The narrator had a lovely voice and I thought the accent contributed nicely to the fairy tale but as I mentioned, sometimes the words seemed rushed.

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

It was only an hour long, but it took me three sittings to listen through.

Any additional comments?

I would recommend that the information following the story be in another voice. The vocabulary, questions, and author's notes were a nice addition and would stand out better if they were allowed to stand alone. Again, the questions seemed rushed.
