Title: Tattoo

Subtitle: A Beautiful Sin

Author: Kenny Sills

Narrator: Kenny Sills

Format: Unabridged

Length: 7 hrs and 14 mins

Language: English

Release date: 09-04-17

Publisher: Kenny Sills

Genres: Mysteries & Thrillers, Modern Detective

Publisher's Summary:

Deep within the Manistee National Forest, in the weeks leading up to Halloween, tattooed villagers in Walkerville, Michigan are falling victim to a giant mad man, dressed as a surgeon who extracts their tattoos, before brutally murdering them and leaving their bodies - or body parts - to be found later in and around the village. Beautiful classical music plays while a giant mad man, dressed as a surgeon, cuts and rips tattoos from his helpless victims, who are tied down naked to a cold, steel autopsy table. All they can do is scream. Walkerville's Sheriff Kerry calls on Captain Parker of the Grand Rapids Homicide Department to help him and his three deputies on these strange and macabre cases. With each murder, the trusting villagers become more and more suspicious and accusatory towards each other. Fingers point and fists fly as Sheriff Kerry and Captain Parker try to work together on the strange cases in their unique small town, and employ big city ways to try and find a serial killer hiding in the village. While listening, you will also hear the classical pieces that the surgeon is playing as you get to them in the audiobook. It is a truly unique experience for the senses!

Tattoo Removal Has Never Been Scarier

Kenny Sills' book, Tattoo, is not your average and ordinary mystery or crime thriller. It has all the elements of such: a small quiet town, colorful inhabitants, a police force with nothing much going on, Oh!, and a deranged serial killer who is killing folks and removing their tattoos for keepsakes.

But Tattoo doesn't follow the usual protocol of such mysteries. There aren't white knuckled surprises and clues revealed at the end of each chapter. Instead, there are long stomach churning descriptions of the work of the killer himself, bordering on grotesque horror that only Stephen King would dare write. There also isn't a long laundry list of suspects to keep you guessing at who is guilty, which makes the conclusion an even bigger surprise.

Sills excels at characterization. He builds the perfect small town of characters and locales that any reader would warm up to in any plot setting. He outlines a dark and sinister killer to keep you up at night. The young dashing Captain who comes to town to solve the murders even has a love interest with a local waitress, giving the book a soft touch of romance.

I usually prefer a mystery with a bit more opportunity to guess at who the bad guy is, and with more wrenches and cliff hangers thrown into the investigation, but the graphic detail and bizarre characters had this book bordering on the Coen brother's 1996 movie "Fargo" - wood chipper and all - which kept me reading to the very end!

Edge of your seat

This book keeps you at the edge of your seat. The details are grisly yet I felt compelled to read on and I'm glad I did. You can't help yourself you want to find out if the killer gets caught and who will be the hero. When I was finished reading the book I was looking for the next one. Come on Mr. Sills continue with the writing...

Just a quick warning, this is a very graphic ...

Just a quick warning, this is a very graphic book. If you are squeamish, put it down. If not, give it a try. I found the story interesting and well written. The characters were well thought out and seemed very real.

Five Stars

Felt like a movie.

Title: Presumed Guilty

Author: James Carol

Narrator: William Hope

Format: Unabridged

Length: 3 hrs and 17 mins

Language: English

Release date: 09-01-17

Publisher: Whole Story Audiobooks

Genres: Mysteries & Thrillers, Modern Detective

Publisher's Summary:

Yoko Tanaka is one of the best profilers in the FBI. She's been called in to consult on the case of 'Valentino', a killer who steals his victims' hearts.

Within 24 hours they have a suspect in custody - a 19-year-old called Jefferson Winter whose IQ is off the charts. Not only does he confess to the murders, he knows details of the crimes that only the killer could know. It's an open-and-shut case, or is it?

Critic Reviews:

"A brilliant, conflicted profiler." (Stephen Fry)

Members Reviews:

Younger! Still awesome!

A fun read. Jefferson Winter is a charismatic and very entertaining character and here we get a glimpse of him in his arrogant youth. He's got a smart, quick mind and an even smarter mouth and is always one step ahead of anyone else. Carol has Winter's voice down perfectly. He's just a distinct character and Carol writes his younger self, with all the touches of a cocky teenager instead of writing the âsameâ Winter and just stating he's younger. Its a believable teenager Winter and amazing to read if you are a fan of the character. The writing is crisp, the pace good and the plot grabs you from the start. There's a few fun bits, if you read âBroken Dollsâ, like the origin of Winter's Zippo lighter which I thought were pretty cool.

The first part of the story could have moved faster and I thought Tanaka, an FBI agent who is sort of Winter's mentor could have used more âlifeâ but those are minor complaints. Once the âactionâ gets going, and the crime solving starts, things pick up and don't stop until the satisfying conclusion.

The scope of the story of obviously smaller than in a book, and like before I wish more time had been given to Winter instead of so many pages about the somewhat dull, Agent Tanaka but for Winter fans this is a wonderful way to spend an evening. I finished it, wanting more and immediately pre-ordered the next Jefferson Winter, âWatch Meâ. I cant wait until its delivered on the kindle app! Good work, once again, James Carol! Good work!

A Great Quick Read

E Book Novellas are all the rage at present, and as with any books, some work better than others. I like the premise behind these Jefferson Winter ones, going back and showing how he became the profiler he is, and this first novella was a great introduction into a younger Winter. But don't let his age fool you, he's still just as smart as ever, however that doesn't help explain why he's sitting on the wrong side of the table confessing to multiple murders. You'll have to read the book to find out. It's a great read, took me a little over an hour and I enjoyed every minute of it. Looking forward to novella number 2.

Presumed Guilty is a novella prequel to the Jefferson Winter thriller series.

Presumed Guilty is a novella prequel to the Jefferson Winter thriller series.

I donât tend to read a lot of crime, but I really enjoyed this. My favourite character is Jefferson Winter. I think this was a great introduction to his character, and I look forward to getting to know him more. I also think Special Agent Yoko Tanaka is an interesting character, and the other detective's nickname made me giggle.

I already have the rest of the series, so Iâm really looking forward to reading more of it in the coming months.

Title: The Adventures of Nat Pinkerton aka Russian Sherlock Holmes

Author: Boris Sokolov

Narrator: Evgeniy Stychkin, Irina Avtuh

Format: Unabridged

Length: 44 mins

Language: English

Release date: 08-23-17

Publisher: Dialar Navigator

Genres: Mysteries & Thrillers, Modern Detective

Publisher's Summary:

Who, you ask, is Nat Pinkerton? He is a famous American detective, strong, brave and noble. His adventures drove readers all over the world all crazy.

Nat Pinkerton's popularity was overwhelming, right from the wevy first publication. Schoolboys of twelve and aged senators spent sleepless nights over these absorbing, if literary, shockers. In 1908, about 10,000,000 copies were purchased in Russia.

His clean-shaven, flabby face, with a protruding chin and a somewhat meaty nose, a sharp line between his nostrils and the edge of his tightly pressed lips, his piercing eyes (or rather, only one eye), even the sideways part of his slightly graying brown hair and colorful American tie, all spoke to the fact that this was the twentieth century's greatest criminologist, an experienced and fearless man, with an iron will, the scourge of the American criminal world, who'd uncovered hundreds and hundreds of bloody crimes, and sent more than one villain to the electric chair of New York's Sing Sing prison.

This audiobook is narrated by the famous actor Evgeniy Stychkin, in Russian.

Please note: this audiobook is in Russian.
