Publisher's Summary:
IF YOU TAKE RISKS, sometimes things go wrong.
If you could predict success with 100% assurance, where would the challenge be? Most of us want to live at the edge of something...a business venture, a relationship, an outdoor adventure. Yet most people don't photograph sharks uncaged, set high-speed downhill skiing records, or climb overhanging sand dunes.
For the majority of us, life is about accepting risks that take you to the edge...you can see it, sense the adventure, know the fear, overcome obstacles and test your limits. You want to look at the edge, walk the edge, but not go over the edge. You want to absorb the adventure...and then tell your stories around the dinner table.
In Fumes and a Prayer, Dennis Bauer invites you to live life at the edge. And he asks you to remember three key words, words his flight instructor taught him, words he didn't know he would need until the day the engine coughed and spluttered, and the propeller began to windmill in the air 5,000 feet over northern Colorado.
Sometimes, while pursuing life at the edge, things go wrong. For any venture you pursue, here are the three critical keys you must know for success survival.
Includes chapters on Risk, Opportunity, Experience, Predictability, and Opportunity, and the short, closing chapter Foundation, on the author's personal faith. Be prepared for risks. Listen to Fumes and a Prayer: How to Live at the Edge and Still Be Home for Dinner.

Tired of winging it through life? Bauer's book delivers!
Dennis Bauer isn't someone who just speculates on ideas, he's arrived at them through experience. Pain, joy, surprise, luck or divine blessing - whichever works for you. Bauer talks about the importance of planning but also being able to deal with life's little surprises that can land in your lap (like bills, relationship changes, empty fuel tanks). A simple three word formula that pilots can instinctively understand and once you read the book, will be something the average reader can apply to their lives to not only learn how to make a flight plan, but learn how to deal with being on fumes and a prayer.
As a bonus, Dennis is a Distinguished Toastmaster and does workshops on the art of Storytelling. If you are looking for an opportunity to have your group or business learn how to be effective communicators, then contact Dennis for a booking and hear this unique story in person and learn how to share your own story.
Handy model for business & life
Mr. Bauer's literary approach to introduce and bring to life three basic processes to handling business and about almost any life situation is insightful and actually a model easy to use. His approach of real-life story telling makes this an enjoyable read. I would recommend this book as useful for anyone. I was pleased to read Mr. Bauer's last chapter especially in today's world but you will have to buy the book to see what I mean.
Exciting and well-written
I found this book to be a very unique and encouraging read for the adventurer in all of us. Mr. Bauer relates his experience as a pilot to real world decisions we all face concerning the unexpected.
This is a must read for anyone who has dealt with or is dealing with some form of adversity in life (pretty much everyone).
Engaging book that captures your imagination!
I love the way Dennis writes.
