She was born in Incheon City. Due to the nature of her father’s job as a military officer, her family moved to various places, and she spent her childhood growing up in Busan City. The reason for her inseparable connection with Hangyeong-myeon Area of Jeju Island is that it is her parents’ hometown. Her father is from Geumdeung-ri Village and her mother is from Gosan-ri Village. When she was a high school student, she came to Gosan-ri Village to take care of her grandmother, who was in her nineties. She lived in an environment where even electricity did not reach, but when she reached the senior year of high school, she returned to the mainland. After getting married, she relocated to Seoul and worked with various social organizations like NGOs. In 1999, she returned to Geumdeung-ri Village and started farming with her friends.
Geumdeung-ri Village is a small village located in the northwest of Jeju Island, situated between Hangyeong-myeon’s Panpori Village and Dumori Village. Out of its roughly 100 residents, over half are elderly. Village leader Go Chun-hee has been in charge of the village’s administration for 15 years now, working alongside the residents to bring about both significant and small changes in the village.
