This week's edition of Ghana in Focus continues our Ghana heritage series month. 

We look at Kumasi as a viable investment destination.

Kumasi or  Kumase is the second city of Ghana and is the capital of the Asante Region of Ghana,

Kumasi is a  5 and a half hour journey by road from the capital Accra and is also easily accessible by plane from the Kotoka International Airport in Accra , where there are daily flights. 

The flight time from Accra to Kumasi is around 45 minutes.

As part of our heritage month series, this week's edition of Ghana in Focus looks at some more authentic Ghanaian dishes.

This week's episode of Ghana in Focus asks a pertinent question, who really owns Ghana.

This is in light of Ghana celebrating its 67th year of so called independence on 6th March 1957.

The question of who really owns Ghana is a cogent one given the assertion that political independence is meaningless without economic independence.

Given this we analyse 5 key sectors of the Ghanaian economy.  These sectors are Banking, Gas/Oil, Telecommunications, Mining and Retail.

We give a critical analysis on each sector and conclude that these key sectors of the Ghanaian economy ARE NOT in the complete control of Ghanaians. 

This means that if Ghana does not control the key sectors of its economy  Ghana is essentially economically dependent on others for its survival and to buttress the point it is stated that up to 60%b of Ghana 's budget is made up of donor sources.

So 67 years after so called independence Ghana has yet to achieve economic independence and a generation of leaders has failed Ghana in this instance.

The task now especially for a new generation of forward thinkers and innovators is to transform the economy of Ghana where Ghana can become truly economically independent where  it is able to make decisions that are independent of external influence that can truly transform the lives of its citizens.

This week's edition of Ghana in Focus highlights the president of Ghana's State Of the Nation Address (SONA) and stress this is a president who is seriously out of  touch with reality.

We go into numerous topics that the president mentioned or did not mention and give our take on these topics.

Health - we explain that the state run clinics/ hospitals leave a lot to be desired as they lack basic services and facilities to help with the delivery of health care in Ghana . We advise that the president did not address this and also the brain drain of Ghanaian health professionals to greener pastures.  We also state the flaws of the so called National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS).

Education - we explain the flaws of the government's flagship so called free SHS programme  and the president's failure to address its shortcomings.  We also bemoan the president's failure to address the quality of education in Ghana along with the teacher shortage.

Unemployment - We criticize why the president omitted the thorny issue of unemployment in Ghana.  Latest statistics indicate that 1 in 3 youth and 1 in 5 Ghanaians generally are unemployed.  The president's failure to mention the unemployment crises in Ghana and some of its consequences is wholly unacceptable.

Housing -  Again another key area the president omitted from his address - We state there is a housing deficit of more than 4 million units and that the ordinary Ghanaian cannot afford to buy a home.  So its unacceptable that the president did not even mention a strategy to build affordable homes in Ghana to address the housing crises,

Economy  - We touch on the vexed issue of the economy.  we advise the economy is in dire straits as witnessed by the country s involvement in a 3 year IMF bailout programme.    We also point out that the president did not mention the consequences of the Domestic Debt Exchange Programme (DDEP) and the external debt Ghana owes countries like China.   

Again for the president to skirt around this and imply that Ghana is on the road to economic recovery is somewhat disingenuous.

We also touch upon issues like illegal mining, corruption and the debt to GDP ratio that the President failed to mention.

In closing the president's State of the Nation Address was very disappointing as it failed to deal with the realities on the ground , the harsh challenges Ghanaians are facing and shows this is a president who is out of touch with reality.

This week's edition of Afrika in Focus reviews the just ended Afrikan Cup of Nations (AFCON) in Ivory Coast.

By all accounts the football fiesta that was AFCON was a great success with more than 2 Billion people watching the event in more than 170 countries.

 Added to this most of the stadia hosting the matches were sold out culminating in the final being sold out to a full capacity of 60,000 people in the Allasanne Quatarra Stadia in the capital Abidjan  to see the hosts Ivory Coast come from behind to beat Nigeria 2-1 to be crowned Kings of Afrika.

We start by stating how well organized the event was and was a showpiece for not only Afrikan football but also demonstrating the ability of an Afrikan nation to stage a global continental event.

We state that Afrikan football has come of age with the so called smaller teams going boot to boot with the so called bigger teams.

Powerhouses Ghana, Egypt, Cameroon and Algeria ALL had early exits whilst hot favourites Morocco and Senegal failed to make the quarter finals. 

Lesser teams like Equatorial Guinea, Cape Verde, South Africa, DR Congo and Mauritania surpassed expectations highlighting the fast improvement of the so called smaller teams.

We explain how the refereeing, normally a bane in Afrikan football, was of the highest quality and that the VAR technology was used to great effect.

From great goals to non stop action to the thrills and spills of the group stages, to late goals and to the fairy tale ending for the hosts, AFCON 23 was a tournament to savour and did the continent proud.

This week's edition of Afrika in Focus analyses the Biopic of Bob Marley, ONE LOVE.

We explain the rationale for the movie and stress that certain factors like the marketability of the film and the type of message the producers / directors of the film wanted to portray were all considerations before the release of the film.

The portrayal of Marley in the biopic will be a watered down version of what Bob Marley really stood for.

We explain why the true image of Bob Marley was watered down to suit a commercial audience.

We also state that Bob Marely was a man who was well in tune with his Afrikan heritage and his songs and political activism highlighted this and is something the film will not portray.

We end by stating Hollywood NEVER gives a true reflection of great Afrikan historical figures and Bob Marley is no exception. 

Hollywood will portray whatever image they want to portray to suit their agenda and capitalistic tendencies.

We advise go and watch the biopic/ film but always have your third eye at hand and understand that what you are watching is only part of the story.

This week's edition of Ghana in Focus looks at the outrageous decision by Britain to 'loan' to the Asante nation, stolen Asante crown jewels.

We chronicle the history of how these precious crown jewels were stolen by the wicked British during the Asante-British wars of 1800-1904 where the main aim of the British was to steal the Asante Golden stool and subjugate the Asante.

We state how these Royal Asante crown jewels and other artefacts looted by these British criminals found their way to the British 'museum' and the Victoria and Albert 'museum' both in London.

It is also important to note that these artefacts are not just artefacts but are artefacts that have deep spiritual, cultural and traditional meaning for the Asante people, the Asante nation and the Asantehene (The Asante King).

We also state how the British created laws that essentially justifies their stealing of another's property to the extent that they now become the 'owners' of stolen property.

We end by stating this 'loan' agreement is an insult to the Asantehene, The Asante Nation, The Asante people and the people of Ghana and demand that Britain has a moral, ethical and spiritual obligation to return stolen property back to its rightful owner.

Ghana crashed out of this year's Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) by failing to beat lowly Mozambique and therefore  failing to make the knockout stages of the AFCON for a second tournament in a row .

They are many reasons why Ghana failed at AFCON 23 some of which include the Ghana Football Association (GFA) allowing the impressive Otto Addo to leave his post after the World Cup in Qatar as well as not having a well defined and strategic long term strategy to make Ghana Kings of Afrikan football again.

Others include the lack of real depth and talent  in Ghana's squad compared to the Golden Generation  of Michael Essien,  Steven Appiah, Richard 'olele' Kingston, Sulley Muntari, Asamoah Gyan, Richard Mensah and Kevin Prince Boateng.

Finally we discuss the way forward for the Black Stars which includes building a cohesive, strategic and disciplined team around key players like Mohammed Kudus and Semenyo in order for Ghana to re kindle past glories.
