Welcome to Ghany Gatherings, a podcast from Camp Alleghany for Girls.
In this first episode, Elizabeth Shreckhise, Camp Director, shares why this podcast exists and what you can expect in the episodes ahead.
Parents are busy. Choosing and preparing for camp requires trust. This podcast is a space for conversation, clarity, and context. We’ll cover logistics and reminders, but also the “why” behind our policies, our safety standards, and the way we think about girls, growth, leadership, and joy.
Whether you’re a current camp family or simply curious about Alleghany, we’re glad you’re here.

Ghany Gatherings is the official podcast of Camp Alleghany for Girls, a traditional overnight summer camp located on the Greenbrier River in West Virginia. Hosted by Director Elizabeth Shreckhise, this podcast is created for current camp families and for those exploring whether summer camp is the right fit for their child.
Through thoughtful conversation and practical guidance, we cover camper logistics and parent reminders, as well as camp safety, staff training, homesickness, leadership development, and the “why” behind our policies and traditions. Whether you are preparing your daughter for her first overnight camp experience, choosing a summer camp, or simply wanting deeper insight into how camp builds confidence and independence, this is a space to stay informed and build trust.
