Giant Mess

Giant Mess podcast host Neal Lynch reacts to the New York Giants fumbling away a winnable game against the New Orleans Saints in Week 5. Five Giants turnovers led to 13 Saints points. Darius Slayton dropped a big pass and fumbled on a promising drive before half. Jaxson Dart threw two interceptions and lost the ball while scrambling to start the second half. Cam Skattebo's fumble at the beginning of the 4th quarter broke the Giants' spirit. The vaunted Big Blue pass rush applied pressure but couldn't register a sack. The secondary allowed big plays and was flagged for big penalties. This was one of the biggest blown leads in Giants franchise history.

Giant Mess podcast host Neal Lynch recaps the New York Giants' 21-6 loss to the Washington Commanders in the 2025 season opener and previews the Dallas Cowboys matchup.

The Giants lost 21-6 to Washington, scoring only field goals while the Commanders scored three touchdowns.

Offensive output was extremely limited: the Giants managed just 231 total yards while the Commanders put up over 430, and New York failed to convert red zone trips into touchdowns on multiple occasions.

New York is now 3-15 in games without a healthy Andrew Thomas since 2022.

Newcomer QB Russell Wilson struggled in his debut (17 of 37, 168 yards, no TDs), dealing with constant pressure (22 Washington pressures on 45 dropbacks) and intermittent drops from receivers.

New York ran 11 plays inside the 10 and came away with only 3 points.

The defense was unable to contain the Washington ground game, surrendering over 220 rushing yards, though they did register a few sacks.

Play-calling is described as "cowardly" and lacking aggression, typified by settling for field goals instead of seizing touchdown opportunities.

Management and coaching are heavily criticized for failing to upgrade and develop the offensive line, missing out on opportunities to install a new team personality or take bold strategic risks.

Highlights how the Giants have failed to score a touchdown in three straight season openers—something last done by the 1940-42 Detroit Lions.

Giants' last three season openers: outscored 89-12, have not scored a touchdown in any of them.

Third down efficiency: just 4-of-16; the team averaged only 3.7 yards per play, further highlighting offensive stagnation.

Red zone futility: 11 plays inside the 10-yard line, net -3 yards, just three points.

Run Game: No Giants rusher stood out; offensive line inconsistency prevented big gains or sustained drives.

Giant Mess podcast host Neal Lynch reviews Jurassic World Rebirth starring Scarlett Johansson, Mahershala Ali, Jonathan Bailey, Rupert Friend, and everyone's favorite shipwrecked family.

The film takes place five years after Jurassic World: Dominion. An expedition is launched to isolated equatorial regions with the goal of extracting DNA from three massive prehistoric creatures—this time for a groundbreaking medical breakthrough.

The visuals and dinosaur action are praised as impressive and thrilling. The “T-Rex River Wrath” sequence is called “one of the best scenes of the year.”

References to the in-movie suggestion that people might be “over dinosaurs.” The host challenges this, arguing that the enduring box office and cultural impact prove otherwise—“People love dinosaurs.”

There’s criticism for relying on “familiar and somewhat underdeveloped” plot points and characters. The Delgado family and some other new additions don’t quite land as fresh as hoped.

Scarlett Johansson (“Scarjo”) debuts as Zora Bennett, a covert ops expert. She’s enthusiastic about joining the franchise but gives a more restrained performance, possibly to differentiate from her Marvel persona.

Mahershala Ali (Duncan Kincaid) is praised as a standout, with the host suggesting he nearly “stole the show.”

Jonathan Bailey (Dr. Henry Loomis) is also positively received.

Gareth Edwards is recognized for his approach and commended for atmosphere and “making you feel uneasy,” but Rebirth is described as his “lowest-rated directorial effort,” though still “mid-tier” in the Jurassic franchise hierarchy.

Writer David Koepp returns (he wrote the original Jurassic Park and other classics.

The podcast pushes back on industry/media claims about dinosaur (or superhero) movie over-saturation: “We’re nowhere near the same level of saturation [as superheroes], and dinosaurs are still exciting by nature.

Franchise longevity is compared to *Fast & Furious*. The host argues Jurassic could continue with annual dinosaur movies and still not reach genre exhaustion.

In this episode of Giant Mess, Neal Lynch dives deep into Ryan Coogler’s 2025 Southern Gothic vampire horror hit Sinners, starring Michael B. Jordan in a dual role as twin brothers Smoke and Stack Moore. Neal breaks down the film’s plot, cast performances, behind-the-scenes details, historical influences, and standout scenes — from juke joint blues to blood-soaked showdowns.

You’ll hear about Coogler’s inspirations (From Dusk Till Dawn, The Faculty, Salem’s Lot, The Twilight Zone), the film’s Mississippi Delta setting, powerful themes of race, legacy, freedom, and survival, as well as why Sinners stands out as one of the best original genre movies of 2025.

Neal also discusses box office performance, possible sequel ideas, Coogler’s directing style, and why Michael B. Jordan could be eyeing awards season glory for this career-best performance.

Whether you’re here for movie analysis, film history connections, horror breakdowns, or Neal's signature tangents, this review will have you looking at Sinners in a whole new light.
