A local cyclist who represented Gibraltar in the Commonwealth Games and Island Games has died in a traffic accident in France. 27 year old Sam O'Shea was cycling in France when the accident occurred. Jose Mari Ruiz said the news has shocked the local sporting community.

A landmark £1.8 billion data centre is to be built in Gibraltar by Pelagos Data Centres, marking one of the largest infrastructure investments in the Rock's history. The project will see the construction of a 250 megawatt facility on a twenty thousand square metre site near the Port, developed in five phases through to 2033. Jonathan Sacramento brought us the details.

A finance centre careers fair is said to be the first of its kind. It’ll give students, young people, a chance to talk to industry professionals and think of possible career paths. Karon Cano is Project Manager at the Ministry for trade and industry, and Targ Patience is a specialist in new technologies, working in the private sector.

Jose Mari Ruiz spoke about a record attendance at Europa Stadium for an international friendly in his roundup of sports news.

The General Secretary of Rugby Europe will be on the Rock this weekend ahead of the Gibraltar rugby union submitting their request to join in December. Rugby Development & Operations manager Tom Read described the visit as an exciting time.

And, a jampacked lineup of live music kicks off at 6pm at Ocean Village today. The Weekender will see both local and UK talent playing original music at The Arena Stage outside O'Reillys and all for free. We spoke to organiser Wayne Meenagh as well as musicians from one of the bands playing later; Aidan and Bennie from Saiphon.

National Day is round the corner, and what better time to cast a thought back to the Gibraltar of yesteryear. Our News Editor Christine Vasquez told us about a GBC News feature ‘Llevame Donde Naci”.

They have a long-standing interest in Llanito, and now they’re asking you for your help with a survey about your language history, use, proficiency, and attitudes. A-Level students recently received their results and those who performed exceptionally well - and as a result have obtained a place at a leading university - are eligible to apply for the Kusuma Trust Excellence Prize. The application process is now open and Michelle Tosso was in the studio to tell us how it works.

A locally produced Christmas horror film is being pitched to distributors. It's called Vases and its tag line; ‘when loved ones are vanishing from their graves, a determined Police Officer must summon every resource to unravel the chilling mystery’. The National Day banner is in Casemates once again with people asked to sign it so that it can be displayed on stage on the 10th September. Kevin Ruiz was in town this morning.

The Fine Arts Association is showcasing young talent at a Graduate Showcase exhibition at Gema Gallery. Four young artists are displaying their work until the end of the week. Victor Gonzalez from the association as well as two of the young artists, Jack Hernandez and Charlie Gingell, told us more about the exhibit.

Jose Mari Ruiz talked sport including the last game in football before the international break and looked ahead to the national side’s friendly against Albania as well as Gibraltar’s 100th competitive game.

Gibraltar Netball has launched its official kit while presenting its squad for the 2025 World Netball Youth Cup. Two designs fuse our cultural, social, and historical heritage. We spoke to Moira Gomez from Gibraltar Netball, as well as Museum Director Geraldine Finlayson, who's collaborated on the project.

The Cardiac Association is launching a walking challenge to support heart health as part of a Step Up for World Heart Day campaign. It's called “25 FOR 25” and the charity's Suyenne Catania told us what the challenge entails.

And dog groomer Ella Baines is fundraising for cancer relief, a charity very close to her heart. She's teaming up with Morrisons to put on a dog grooming event on Thursday. She explained what the motivation was for the fundraiser and what she’ll be doing.

Unite has called a strike over its public sector pay dispute and says it comes after the Government cancelled its most recent meeting at short notice, and also didn't respond to correspondence. In response, Number Six says it will "not act irresponsibly with public money" and allow the community to be "held to ransom". Iain Triay Clarence has been covering the story.

Active Travel Month begins Monday! This new community initiative invites individuals, families, clubs, schools, companies and organisations to replace short car journeys with walking, cycling, running or scooting. Stuart Hedley came up with the idea and told us how it’ll work.

PJI and Kusuma will be hosting workshops in response to two command papers issued by the government, they propose repealing the charity's act with a modern version, alongside new regulations covering accounting, reporting and external scrutiny. We spoke to Jose Julio Pisharello of the Gibraltar Charity Commission.

Two young rowers will be taking on a 24 hour challenge to raise money for Cancer Relief. Thomas Zammit and Maia Norton represent the Calpe Rowing Club and explained how the challenge will work and why they’ve chosen to support Cancer Relief.

Regular beachgoer Bob Estella came to Caleta as a child and is now making new memories there with his grandchildren.

Opposition Minister Giovani Origo told us that by going ahead with the Eastside project the Government will be going against one of their key manifesto commitment.  

Manolo Bonfiglio has been a local in Caleta his entire life: he told us what the beach was like when he was a boy, and remembers accessing the beach by Williams Way tunnel.

David De Castro and his daughter Eliza are visiting Gibraltar but have family ties to the Rock. He spent many summer holidays on the shores of Catalan Bay.

And tourists Ross and Betty Saint Quentin are on the Rock celebrating their 40th wedding anniversary! They’ve thoroughly enjoyed their time here.

We followed the story of union members at the bus company jumping from Unite the Union to the GGCA. Unite has been seeking to talk to bus drivers today, GBC understands the union had not been granted access to the bus depot and has told management it has a right to address its members. We spoke to Ros Astengo from the bus depot to see if there have been any developments.

Monday's ferry service from Morocco to Gibraltar was cancelled leaving a Gibraltar-based mother and young children stranded, with the next scheduled ferry in two weeks. An added issue for the family, the children need medication and were left without enough medication for the extra time they will be staying in Morocco. So what now? We spoke to dad Kyle Fraser.

A basketball initiative to encourage children to get into the sport is being rolled out next month. ‘Hoops For Schools’ is a FIBA Europe initiative and encourages kids from all over Europe to participate in a multi-dimensional basketball program targeting children from 5 -12 years old to raise awareness about the importance of physical activity.

In sport Jose Mari Ruiz told us about the latest in sport with Europa FC in Bulgaria for their Champions League preliminary round, as well as the news on the transfer window for local sides at the start of this season’s Rock Cup.

And a new Llanito comedy, ‘Nightmare En El Museo’, is coming to the Ince's Hall in October. Tickets have gone on sale today. It's a Nathan Conroy and Michael Prescott production, hot on the heels of last year's production. We asked them what the inspiration was for this new production.
