The Royal Gibraltar Police, Gibraltar Health Authority and Gibraltar Fire and Rescue Service have announced that, with effect from Monday 18 March, there will just be one Emergency number for all three services – 999. This single number will replace the numbers that have been in use for many years. Christina Cortes told us how the new number will work, with the aim of a unified control room in the future.

Today is World Book Day, and Cultural Services are bringing literature to life at the John Mackintosh Hall, as they do every year. This year their theme is all things David Walliams, with a Gangsta Granny experience, storytelling featuring The Queen's Orangutan, and school workshops have been taking place during the morning, with a focus on art, performance and storytelling. Tasmin Griffiths is here to tell us how the day's gone.

Young Enterprise Gibraltar is a charity that empowers young people to harness their personal and business skills. Today we spoke Sophie King, Rebecca Byrne & Lily Rodgers from Beyond the Bell - a team of young people hoping to provide solutions for parents wondering what is on offer for their sons and daughters when the bell marks the end of the school day.

And, Telecinco announced in January that they're bringing back the Spanish edition of the X Factor. This will be the fourth season of X Factor Spain, featuring judges who are all well known in the Spanish music industry, searching for the next big music sensation. Local musician Rima, an X-Factor hopeful, will be taking part in the show this weekend.

Gibraltar Today turns 1! We reflect on how the programme has become a staple on local radio over the last year.

It's International Women's Day on Friday 8th March, and a number of events have been organised this week to mark the occasion. Jonathan Sacramento attended a forum organised by the Ministry of Defence.

And, the Rif Community Foundation, 'RifCom', is a charity run by volunteers and committed to making a real difference to our neighbouring communities in the Rif Mountains of Morocco. The charity RifCom is celebrating its 15th birthday! We had an in-depth conversation with Anne Smyth, Tom Cawthorn, Anthony Ladislaus and Julian Camble to talk about all the projects that the charity has undertaken over the last 15 years.

The Health Minister has launched a public consultation on the use for the Covid Fund raised by the public during the pandemic. In December she announced that the previously published plans to redevelop the entrance to St Bernard’s hospital would not go ahead given the response received from the public. Gemma Arias-Vasquez says the fund is the people’s money and believes it is only fair that they are consulted on its use. The consultation period begins today and ends on Friday 26th April 2024. The RGP Women in Policing Committee are hosting a coffee morning on Friday to mark International Women's Day. We spoke to Sergeant Mary Desantos about the support available to victims of domestic abuse and the importance of women empowerment.

We're launching the GBC Sports Awards today, recognising sporting excellence on the Rock. As from 2pm you can phone for your favourite nominee for Sportsperson of the Year, with the winner being announced on 9th April. Jose Marie Ruiz and James Culatto told us more about how the nominees are chosen.

The Ministry of Equality and partner organisations are marking International Women's Day. There will be a panel discussion at the Garrison Library and, on Thursday and Friday, GAMPA will perform 'La Maleta' at the GEMA Gallery, paying tribute to women who lived through the evacuation. Adriana Lopez from the Government Press Office, and Hannah Mifsud from GAMPA, told us more about the events.

And, the Royal Gibraltar Post Office is hoping to construct a new three-storey Parcel Post facility at Bishop Caruana Road, just in front of the Med and Calpe Rowing Clubs. Our reporter Kevin Ruiz spoke to us about the plans submitted to the Development and Planning Commission.

Gibraltarian vet Mark Pizarro says it's "ridiculous" an aquarium on the site of Victualling Yard storehouse in Rosia Bay has received outline planning permission by the DPC. Yesterday the Commission heard of plans to restore the historic building to accommodate the oceanic display and research centre. It currently houses the dog kennels, which would continue to use the site if the Aquarium goes ahead. Mark joined us in the studio to express his concerns.

World Wildlife Day will be celebrated tomorrow at the Natural History Museum at Parson’s Lodge. This year's global theme is "Connecting People and Planet: Exploring Digital Innovation in Wildlife Conservation". Keith Bensusan & Stewart Finlayson from the museum told us more about tomorrow's event.

Gibraltarian Monica Popham is Sky Arts Landscape Artist of the Year! Monica has won a £10,000 commission to create a landscape artwork based on the Orkney Islands, to display in the Science Museum. She also won £500 of art materials. We spoke to her on the phone from Guildford in the UK. 

The Department of Education has commissioned Una Geary, a NHS public health speciality registrar, to compile a report to find out why the number of children with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities in Gibraltar is on the rise. Ms Geary is going to work with the Director of Public Health Dr Helen Carter, and Jenny Victory from the Supported Needs and Disability Office. They spoke to us about the project in the studio.

The Netball World Youth Cup 2025 has officially launched, with Gibraltar to host! Gibraltar Netball President, Moira Gomez and head coach Sarah Payas told us more. 

Very small pellets of plastic, called nurdles have been spotted on Camp Bay's shoreline. Marine conservation charity, the Nautilus Project found them during a beach clean. We heard from Lewis Stagnetto and Alex Sanchez-Soiza.

And, some exciting events to look forward to: extra tickets go on sale for the Melon Diesel concert this summer. Comedian Sarah Millican will also be returning to the Rock. GibMedia's Jordan Lopez discussed these two big events.
