In this section of Luke's Gospel, we consider the words of Jesus - and the example of His disciples - which show the importance Jesus places on Hearing His Word and putting it into practice. That is what it means to truly be His disciple. We are shown this in the example of the sacrificial followers, the parable of the Fruitful soil, those who shine brightly for Him, and those who are called Jesus' True Family.

Drew led us through the rest of Luke 7 as we answer the question, 'Who is Jesus?' In these encounters, we see Jesus displayed as the PROMISED ONE and the FORGIVING ONE.

The reason it is so important to grasp the identity of Jesus is to ensure we relate to Him properly, and so the question remains, 'Who do you say Jesus is?'

Have you ever confused the means with the end? It seems the Pharisees who encountered Jesus had potentially misplaced their priority on the 'means' God had given (i.e. the Law) and their traditions, and in doing so had missed the 'end': the joy of relationship with Almighty God.

As they challenge Jesus on His apparent disregard for the Law and tradition, Jesus seeks to clarify who He truly is and what it means to follow Him - part of which is to 'Keep the Main Thing the Main Thing'. In other words, continue to pursue Jesus - He is the Ultimate and all-satisfying goal.

Drew continues in Luke 5 as we engage with 2 of the many accounts of physical healing which Jesus brought to those in need. In these specific encounters, we see the reality that Jesus will often act in ways, or situations that Jesus is in work in ways, which we might not expect - but that's ultimately a good thing because He is the One who is sovereignly in control.
