It's the last Legal Brief of the month, so you know what that means!
Justine and Amanda tell you about all the people added to The National Exoneration Registry.
"The National Registry of Exonerations is a project of the Newkirk Center for Science & Society at University of California Irvine, the University of Michigan Law School and Michigan State University College of Law. It was founded in 2012 in conjunction with the Center on Wrongful Convictions at Northwestern University School of Law. The Registry provides detailed information about every known exoneration in the United States since 1989—cases in which a person was wrongly convicted of a crime and later cleared of all the charges based on new evidence of innocence. The Registry also maintains a more limited database of known exonerations prior to 1989."

This week on Gin &Justice, Justine and Amanda get a whole new perspective we haven't heard yet, that of a JUROR. Author, Katrina Robertson, tells all about her jury service, going from a juror in a murder trial and accidentally catching a contempt charge! She brings us on her journey from the moment she gets the juror summons to the point where she is to be sentenced by a very strict and biased judge in her small town. Speaking from a juror's perspective on a need for change, her impactful story will forever change the way Justine conducts her own voir dire.
You can read her entire story by getting her book, Juror #11: A Memoir of the Broken Justice System and Rising From the Trials of Life, here:

On this episode of Gin and Justice, the gals first go over some cocktail recipes, then they chat with David Beers. David served in the United States Marine Corps, New York State Police as a trooper where he worked his way up to investigator, was wrongfully accused, then cleared of wrongdoing, before eventually going private. With his collective experience as a police officer, defendant, and now as a private investigator, Beers developed a unique perspective of the criminal justice system. Starting from scratch, he organized and started his own investigative business he would justly name; New Perspective Investigations, specializing in criminal defense investigation and consulting. Since then, he has worked on numerous high-profile murder cases, including the ones he now writes about.
