Arawn chats with Jeff about his musical history, Dungeon Serpent and it’s chaotic yet melodic sound, releasing his first album through Nameless Grave Records, and gives some insight into what’s next for the band.

Episode 022 was supposed to accompany the release of Shinigami, a full-length debut from the German deathcore band Ruins of Perception, although the release has been delayed until April 08, 2022.  I'm 100% in support of this as the band wants to bring the best experience forward.  Max is an accordion-wielding music teacher with a keen ear for great music and we discuss the band, what he looks for in music, and what draws him to the heavier sub-genres of metal.  We also discuss their Japanese influence, working with other vocalists, and how to stop your ear from looking like the butthole of a cat.

Dr. Jess Birnie-Smith and Dr. Wes Robertson join Jeff in a conversation that spans academia, Lingua Brutallica, and a glimpse into some metal lyrical trends from across the world.  Metal as a feeling rather than sound and diversity in the metal world are both explored in 021 of Giro Nation Metal. 

Dan Cleary of Canada’s Striker joins Jeff for Episode 020 of Giro Nation Metal.  Dan talks about some stellar accommodations, a skateboarding accident, and the feeling of winning a Juno.  Metal as a spectrum, Striker Session IPA, and unprecedented accessibility. 

Greg talks with Jeff about Alchemy & Amanda Bourdan as Caveat’s second vocalist.  They visit about Calgary’s metal scene & changing priorities, COVID & family life, musical freedom & finding shows/band members before social media.  He also explains how to work with the same people for 20+ years.
