A federal appeals court upheld a law mandating that ByteDance divest itself of TikTok or face a U.S. ban, rejecting TikTok's claims of First Amendment violations. The court cited national security concerns stemming from TikTok's alleged ties to the Chinese government as justification. TikTok plans to appeal to the Supreme Court. The decision has sparked debate, with some praising the ruling for national security, and others criticizing it for potentially silencing millions of users and setting a dangerous precedent for online speech restrictions. President-elect Trump's stance on the ban remains uncertain, influenced by various factors, including his past attempts to ban the app and business relationships.

The FBI and CISA are warning Americans about a large-scale Chinese cyberattack targeting US telecommunications networks. This attack compromised some call and text metadata, and in limited cases, content from government and political figures. The agencies urge citizens to utilize encrypted messaging and calls, highlighting the insecurity of cross-platform texting (like iPhone to Android). This warning ironically contrasts with the FBI's past criticisms of end-to-end encryption hindering investigations. While fully encrypted platforms like WhatsApp and Signal are recommended, the FBI emphasizes the importance of "responsible" encryption which allows for lawful data access.

A recent report reveals a decline in foldable smartphone display shipments despite numerous new releases in 2024. This downturn, a first since 2019, is attributed partly to smaller manufacturers leaving the market. However, the anticipated release of a foldable iPhone in 2026 is predicted to significantly boost sales and revitalize the currently stagnant sector. The high cost of foldable phones compared to traditional models is also cited as a contributing factor to the decreased demand. Overall, the foldable phone market faces challenges, with the potential for an Apple entry to significantly change the market's trajectory.

Multiple Android Authority articles analyze Google's Tensor chip project, arguing that despite powering unique AI features in Pixel phones, its performance and power efficiency lag behind competitors like Qualcomm's Snapdragon. While Google prioritizes cost-effectiveness over top-tier performance, resulting in compromises like reduced GPU capabilities in future Tensor chips, this strategy risks leaving Pixel phones behind in overall performance metrics. The articles explore the financial considerations behind Google's choices and question whether the current approach will remain viable long-term, suggesting potential alternatives like a two-tiered chip strategy. Ultimately, the success of Tensor hinges on whether its unique features outweigh its performance limitations, particularly at higher price points.
