Welcome to the 76th episode of Giving Back Insights, my Thursday solo show where I talk about how our guests and their charities serve others, to explore actions each of can take to make a difference in people’s lives and to share. Today I’m discussing the secrets of getting started. Listen to today’s episode and don’t forget to give your feedback and valuable comment. Enjoy!
Key Takeaways:
Today you’re seeing my favorite picture of me. Look at Ursula’s smile --- who wouldn’t be proud knowing they’re part of someone’s happiness?
This adventure, it’s about life, and that means sharing as well as learning
My oldest son Carson asked me when I was first thought about marrying Ursula
Three things I learned about her:
As a side note, he’s on his first serious relationship and I don’t know what that means and I’m hopeful that he’ll look for clues of his own as well as learn from mine.
Remember: Always err on the side of love & kindness.
Love & Gratitude,
Rob

Today I’m discussing Lessons: asking. Listen to today’s episode and don’t forget to give your feedback and valuable comment. Enjoy!
Key Takeaways:In the bible, Jesus said, “Ask and you will receive, and your joy will be complete” in John 16:24. Similar statements are found in Matthew 7:7; 21:22; Mark 11:24; Luke 11:9; and John 15:7.
Life gives you what you ask, a poem by Rittenhouse:
I bargained with Life for a penny,
And Life would pay no more,
However I begged at evening
When I counted my scanty store;
For Life is just an employer,
He gives you what you ask,
But once you have set the wages,
Why, you must bear the task.
I worked for a menial's hire,
Only to learn, dismayed,
That any wage I had asked of Life,
Life would have paid.
― Jessie B. Rittenhouse
Teresa deGrosbois is a person who I really respect and an expert in mass influence. A few months ago she shared an insight with me. She told me that my blind spot is not asking and in order for me to reach my potential, I’d have to learn how to ask. That got me thinking.

Josh Schukman is the Founder and CEO of Social Change Nation, an online hub for startup social entrepreneurs. Josh’s website provides free information to help others start making money AND make a big difference at the same time. On the show, Josh shares how he found his purpose, what Social Change Nation is all about, and why it’s important that for-profit companies have values and purpose behind their products and services.
Key Takeaways:
[3:50] How did Josh get involved with social change?
[7:25] When Josh took a year off to serve others, it was actually his first year ‘on’. Little did he know that it would spark a life of service.
[12:05] What is Social Change Nation all about?
[17:00] Social change is not a fad. Consumers are voting with their money. Consumers are supporting businesses that share their same values.
[23:55] People will turn on you very quickly if they feel deceived by your intentions and values.
[24:35] For traditional businesses which are making a transition towards social impact, it’s very hard for them to show vulnerability and to let others know what they care about.
[30:00] What is Impact Business Hub all about?
[39:00] You don’t need a certification in your business in order for you to give back. For example, Social Change Nation does not have an B-Corp certification.
[39:35] Start with your why. Just start and don’t let analysis paralysis stop you from giving back.
